Why is consultation important?

Where can I find out more?

Before we undertake any significant development at Perth Airport, we must prepare a Major Development Plan and submit it to the Commonwealth Minister for Infrastructure and Transport for consideration. This is required under both the Commonwealth Airports Act 1996 and the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

There are a number of ways for you to find out more about the New Runway Project.

The Major Development Plan for the new runway provides an outline of what the project includes and any impacts and proposed mitigations or strategies. It is then made available for public comment for 60 business days. The Major Development Plan is extensive and very detailed. Therefore, to support the Major Development Plan, a series of fact sheets have been prepared to summarise the information for the benefit of all members of the community. During the public comment period, all fact sheets and more detailed information, including the Major Development Plan, can be viewed at newrunway.com.au.

MAJOR DEVELOPMENT PLAN APPROVAL PROCESS

We appreciate that it is important for you to be fully informed about major projects at Perth Airport that may affect you. Therefore, Perth Airport is committed to effective and transparent engagement with the community. Planning for the new runway commenced in the early 1970s with the location identified in planning documents in 1985. In 2012, as air traffic grew, we accelerated our planning and design work. As part of the Perth Airport Master Plan 2014 process we identified that the new runway would be needed in the short term and released information on its likely operation. Following extensive design and technical assessments, it is now time for you to have a further say on the future planning and direction of Perth Airport. The Major development Plan will be released for 60 business days from mid 2018.
