Heads, Hearts and Hands | Annual Report 2016 | Changing lives

Mobilising more people with bicycles in South Africa is one simple, but powerful way we can change lives – and it’s an initiative Dimension Data employees across the globe have put their hearts into. Dimension Data’s Heads, Hearts and Hands programme is designed to help our 30,000 great people around the world give back to their local communities and join together in global initiatives. The programme focuses on education, children’s causes, and the environment. A project can be as simple as painting a childcare facility on a volunteer day or sharing knowledge with learners from disadvantaged backgrounds during a technology course. Whatever they do, our people always give back with 100% passion, commitment, and sincerity. This year’s Heads, Hearts, and Hands Annual Report is filled with stories that will touch your heart and inspire hope. For me, it’s a tribute to our strong culture and values, to see our employees selflessly giving of their time and their talent. More than that, it’s exciting to see how our clients, vendors, and partners are becoming part of the fundraising and outreach initiatives of the programme – their willingness and generosity is truly humbling. In 2016, we also grew the programme with Qhubeka. As title sponsors for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka – who took on this year’s Tour de France for the first time in Dimension Data team colours – we worked with the team owners to align the world of pro-cycling with the Heads, Hearts and Hands programme, and adopted Qhubeka as our global charity. Our goal is to help Qhubeka, a South African-based charity, to provide children with robust, locally made bicycles, getting them to school quicker and safer. We hope to combat learners’ frequent absenteeism as a result of walking to school every day, giving them more time for homework and to enjoy their childhood. While our Qhubeka initiative has its roots in Africa, it’s exciting to see all our regions and employees supporting it. We achieved a successful year with our Heads, Hearts and Hands programme – and we’re delighted to share just a few of our stories with you. Enjoy!

02 Supporting Qhubeka We partner with South African-based charity Qhubeka and Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka to make this project a global Heads, Hearts and Hands initiative. We’re changing lives one bicycle at a time – by getting children in Africa to school quicker and safer.

Qhubeka 5000, our first global activity In July, more than 200 employees from across the globe took part in the Qhubeka 5000 event. This was an international 48-hour interactive fundraising initiative. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka challenged fans to join them in supporting Qhubeka by choosing one of four routes – from 6km – 208km to help reach their target of 5,000 bikes. As our first ever global Heads, Hearts and Hands activity for Dimension Data, we raised enough funds to donate 18 bikes to Qhubeka.

Our People and Culture directors get behind this great cause Our Group People and Culture team, partnering with Deloitte UK, was challenged to see how far they could ride in 30 minutes. We raised funds to donate 20 bikes to Qhubeka.

‘The challenge of distance results in increased tardiness, frequent absenteeism, exhaustion and often the complete withdrawal of the child from the education system. Bicycles are the most effective and economical method of quickly addressing this problem.’

Supporting local artists to help raise funds To support fundraising events for Qhubeka, we commissioned the production of 3,000 wire bicycles. African Creative, a company based in Cape Town, took on the challenge of producing the bikes in just two weeks. More than 40 wire artists, all from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, worked on this project. To assist with the work, African Creative outsourced directly to 15 artisans from the Dunoon informal settlement, who helped us to complete this project. We sold Qhubeka beaded bracelets, too, which the Bead Coalition in South Africa made as an income-generating project for rural communities.

Cycle-athon The ACT Account Managers and Branch Management teams in Canberra competed against each other in an effort to see who could raise the most money for Qhubeka. Each participant was ‘locked’ to his or her stationary bike until he or she had cycled for at least 30 minutes or 12 km. A lot of blood, sweat, tears, and smiles were shared around the office, with all riders reaching the 30-minute target. We raised USD 3,650 – enough for 20 bikes for Qhubeka.

Le Tour de Torment To support Qhubeka, nine volunteers from the leadership teams of Dimension Data, Oakton, and Viiew rode in groups of three for 10 minutes on a spin bike. Employees and guests paid the equivalent of a USD 7 entry fee and were given a ping pong ball. Once the spinning started, guests were asked to vote for the rider they wanted to see progress into the ‘torment round’. To vote for a rider, balls were placed into the jug next to each cyclist’s bike. Additional balls were sold via gold coin donations. At the end of the 10 minutes, the rider with the most balls progressed to the final round. Once all three heats were complete, the three riders who progressed to the final had to cycle for five minutes. The overall winner was determined by a fun dance-off. ‘This event has made a difference in helping improve peoples’ lives through the Qhubeka Foundation.’ – Simon Williams, Executive General Manager, Oakton Queensland and winner of the La Tour de Torment.

All on board to support Qhubeka Employees in the Netherlands supported Qhubeka through a variety of activities. For every completed customer satisfaction questionnaire, we donated USD 10 to Qhubeka. Our clients were informed of the initiative and this resulted in a higher than usual number of completed questionnaires. At the annual Dutch IT exhibition, working with our vendor partners, we donated USD 3.5 of every pre-registered attendee to our stand to Qhubeka. Before our Sales Kick-Off, we worked with our office caterers and provided a daily Qhubeka-branded meal or snack for employees; a portion of the price was donated to Qhubeka. Our great people also organised their own Qhubeka events, such as a movie night and cake sale. Some employees chose to cycle to work and donated the cost of fuel saved to Qhubeka. We raised enough funds to donate 54 bicycles to Qhubeka.

Race-2-Raise Online cycling game, Zwift, teamed up with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka to contribute to Qhubeka’s fundraising goal of providing 5,000 bicycles. Zwift offered its users the option to donate to the cause and, in return, provided in-game incentives, such as a Team Dimension Data jersey or a special yellow Cervelo bicycle, for their avatars. We decided to make the campaign ‘live’ with a Race-2-Raise iniative. We introduced Zwift to our employees in the Singapore office, our ITaaS employees, and at the recent Asia Pacific Sales Kick-Off. For a small donation to Qhubeka, they could attempt a 200 m sprint. The participant with the fastest time had a Qhubeka bicycle donated in his or her name. In 2016, Dimension Data partnered with Internet Solutions, Merchants, and Britehouse to roll out the Saturday School programme. The e-Learning Learner Management System continues to make a vast impact by enhancing the quality of education in underserved schools in South Africa, significantly improving the Grade 12 pass rate. We’ve reached and positively impacted the lives of 45,000 learners in more than 100 schools across all nine provinces.

Heads, Hearts and Hands | Annual Report 2016| Changing lives

We believe in those who set out to achieve what others say they can’t – and this report is an opportunity to recognise those achievements. Our ambition at Dimension Data is to help our clients to achieve great things in the digital era. We believe technology is reshaping the world of business – it’s also forever changing the world in which we communicate and collaborate. With the rise of a shared economy, this is the era for making the world a better place for all. Nowhere is this more evident than in our Heads, Hearts and Hands programme. As a globally matrixed organisation, operating out of 58 diverse countries and spanning multiple cultures, our employees come together every year to lend their support to the programme. Our great people use Heads, Hearts and Hands to make a difference to communities that don’t always have the opportunities and advantages we often take for granted in our everyday lives. I’m particularly proud of the fantastic support our employees have given to Qhubeka. A Qhubeka bicycle changes a child’s life. It helps him or her to get to school faster and improves academic performance. In this last year, we changed 924 lives in this way – what an amazing achievement! The consistent acts of ordinary people, believing in creating a better future for everybody, can add up to some extraordinary stories, stories that illustrate the power of the values we strive to achieve at Dimension Data – teamwork, integrity, and innovation. We don’t only embrace these values, we live them everyday. Regards,

Jason Goodall Group Chief Executive Officer
