2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

Our Heads, Hearts and Hands (HHH) programme is the way we give expression to our role as responsible citizens – both at the organisational and employee level. The programme has a simple message: we’re most effective in changing ourselves and others when we fully engage our heads, hearts, and hands. The focus of the programme is youth and education, and ensuring our efforts help uplift communities in these key areas. In line with this, we partnered with Qhubeka, whose mission is to move people forward with bicycles. All the bicycles that our employees donate are distributed to children in their last three years of high school. As title sponsors of the professional cycling team, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, we have worked with the team owners to align our HHH programme with the world of pro cycling, and adopted Qhubeka as our global employee giving programme. It’s a cause that employees across the globe have become passionate about and enthusiastically support. Our goal is to help Qhubeka to provide children with robust, locally-made bicycles, getting them to school quicker and safer. We hope to combat frequent absenteeism caused by them having to walk to school every day, giving them more time for homework, and to enjoy their childhood. While our Qhubeka initiative has its roots in

‘In 2017, we used our global footprint to touch people’s lives in communities on five continents. The power of our title partnership with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, as well as our global partnership with Cisco, broadened the reach of our social responsibility programme this year.’ Africa, it’s exciting to see all our regions and employees supporting it. Our employees’ efforts have to date helped raise funds to donate almost 1,500 bicycles to children in Africa. Partnering with Qhubeka is a wonderful fit for us as giving young people access to bikes and transport allows them better access to education and gives them hope for their future. We believe, as does Qhubeka, that ‘bicycles change lives’ and we’re proud to be involved in this initiative. In 2017, we also launched an exciting initiative with our global partner, Cisco. To commemorate 25 years as business partners, our two companies committed to completing 25 community service projects around the world. The 2017 HHH report is filled with these, and many other, inspiring stories from around the world. Enjoy reading about all the positive changes we’re making in our communities. A big thank you to all those who participated, giving of their time, money and expertise to change lives!

Qhubeka 5000 For the second year in a row, our employees across the world participated in the Qhubeka 5000 fundraising event this year. Nearly 800 employees from all our regions signed up to cycle, walk, or run in aid of mobilising children in South Africa with bicycles. Qhubeka is a non-profit organisation that aims to mobilise entire communities through the distribution of bicycles. In the spirit of teamwork, collaboration, and a commitment to making a difference, we raised enough funds to donate 40 bicycles (USD 7,320) to Qhubeka, more than double the amount we donated last year. Our contribution was also a third of the total number of bikes funded globally during the event. We’re proud of our partnership with Qhubeka and the passion our employees show for changing lives. At the Campus in South Africa, employees could participate in various activities, including spin-athons, walk-a-thons, and the Campus Challenge. Employees each contributed USD 10 for registration and were encouraged to get clients and family members involved. This resulted in a fun-filled day, with more than 300 employees taking part.

South Africa

Qhubeka bicycle distribution ceremonies In partnership with Qhubeka, we distributed the bicycles we’ve funded throughout the year to beneficiaries in the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces in South Africa. Schools where bicycles are distributed are carefully selected and monitored by Qhubeka’s implementation partners.

‘It was an incredibly inspiring afternoon. Giving these bicycles to the children and seeing first-hand how something so small can make such a difference in someone else’s life is truly humbling.’ Georgie Creaven, Global Internal Communications Manager

10

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

During our global Human Resources Forum in the Western Cape, 130 of the bicycles we raised funds for were distributed to Kylemore Secondary School, an hour outside of Cape Town. One of the recipients of a Qhubeka bicycle was 14-year-old Marike. She dreams of being a doctor one day because she doesn’t like seeing people being sick and dying. One of her biggest challenges, she says, is walking to school because it’s not safe for a girl to walk on her own. But now, with her Qhubeka bike, she can ride with friends safely to and from school and get there on time.

‘We’d heard the stories from the Qhubeka team about how one bike can improve a child’s life by giving them more hours in their day to sleep, eat, or study. But it all became incredibly real when we sat in that gymnasium and saw the excitement and joy on the children’s faces.’ Erikka Buico, Senior Vice President, Americas Services, People and Culture

Summer Power Walking Challenge for Health and Charity In response to the 10,000 Steps a Day, Health is Here to Stay campaign initiated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan, we launched the Summer Power Walking Challenge, which ran from 12 June to 11 July. A total of 55 employees participated, including most of the management team. A health-management bracelet, a tool to measure steps and to record daily improvements, was given to each participant in the hope that it would encourage them to walk longer distances, burn more calories, and improve their health.

12

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

To encourage participation and healthy competition, the company offered incentives for groups and individuals to hit their targets. Challengers who reached 200,000 steps were awarded a small gift, while the three with the most steps won a roundtrip ticket to Hong Kong, worth USD 265. Each participant donated USD 5 to support Qhubeka, and when the target of 5,500 km was reached (the equivalent of circling Taiwan five-and-a-half times), the management team, including Frank Liao, Ted Wang, Gordon Tsai, Andrew Liu, Jonathan Liang, Ming Liang, Amy Chiang, and Catherine Chen, sponsored five bicycles to the cause. By 11 July, the participants had walked a total of 10,278 km, the equivalent of circling Taiwan more than 10 times. We’re thrilled that 73% of our employees met their individual targets and that, as a group, we exceeded our own expectations by 185%. Congratulations to the top three winners – Gyver Ching, Amy Lee, and Nancy Chou – who clocked 482 km, 444 km, and 379 km respectively Furthermore, we’re happy to say that a total of six bicycles have been donated to Qhubeka.

Merchants

Pie the Manager Qhubeka is a massive initiative for us and we’re glad that we’re able to make a difference in people’s lives. This year we decided to do things differently and add some whacky fun to the cycling challenge. One of the initiatives we ran was Pie the Manager, where the managers had to brace themselves for a (non-edible) pie in the face throughout the day. Employees contributed USD 0.70 to take part in the Pie the Manager event, and we aim to host more challenges that will keep funding the dreams of young South African children.

In honour of the Tour de France and to support Qhubeka we hosted an indoor spin-a-thon event with a difference: riding a bike to get a smoothie! Cyclos Smoothies is a fun way to make a smoothie while you cycle a stationary bicycle – the front wheel powers a dynamo that spins the blade of a blender positioned between the bike’s handlebars. We ran this event, and other online challenges, in the three weeks of the Tour de France in a bid to inspire employees and encourage them to promote Qhubeka on social media and through their own networks, using the hashtags #DiDataFR, #BicyclesChangeLives, and #DoYourPart.

The Dab Challenge for Qhubeka The European Early Career members came up with a fun, interactive idea to raise funds for Qhubeka: the Qhubeka Dab Challenge. This involved participants uploading to Yammer a photo or video of themselves ‘dabbing’. Dabbing is an internet meme pose where a person drops their head into the bent crook of their slanted arm, while raising their opposite arm straight out in the other direction. Everyone who uploaded their photos or videos donated to Qhubeka and challenged three others to join in. Hundreds of employees across all our regions took part and more than USD 7,000 was raised – an amazing 39 bikes for Qhubeka!

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

In a stroke of good fortune and perfect timing, London-based fine artist,James Straffon, was introduced to Dimension Data at a client event in Luxembourg earlier this year. Inspired by our partnership with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, James volunteered to produce and donate a painting (pictured left) of team member Mark Cavendish, ‘as long as it was used to raise money for Qhubeka’. Cavendish was able to sign the painting during a well-timed visit to Luxembourg. The creative minds of the Luxembourg marketing team got to work and decided to raffle the painting off during the Europe Accelerate our Strategy meeting in Barcelona in November. European countries were given the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets (500 euros for the first ticket per country, 150 euros for each ticket thereafter) - raising an impressive 22,000 euros in just 24 hours. That’s an amazing 156 bicycles for children in South Africa, to help them get to school more easily. That’s 156 lives changed! The raffle was won by Germany and who will proudly display the painting in the Bad Homburg office.

New South Wales

Jack Edge Classroom Connection – now a registered charity in Australia The Jack Edge Classroom Connection is one of the activities we’ve been involved with for several years in New South Wales. For those who don’t know the story, Paul Barr’s daughter, Bella, came home from school one day distraught. She told her parents that her friend Jack wouldn’t be coming to class anymore because he was going to die and wasn’t well enough to travel to school.

26

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

After clearing it with the Department of Education, Paul borrowed video equipment and created a secure link from Jack’s home to his classroom so that he could participate in the classes he loved and keep in touch with his friends. When the time came and Jack passed away, it also made the grief process for his class mates easier to navigate. News of what Paul had done found its way to another school where a child was in a similar situation and from there the concept of the Jack Edge Classroom Connection was created. Over the past few years, we’ve done what we can to accommodate other children in the same position as Jack, but the going was slow and there was a long waiting list. We have now registered Jack Edge Classroom Connection as an official charity, which means that we can put some fundraising might behind this programme and expand our capabilities to meet the needs of the children, families, and class mates who find themselves in this tragic situation. Funds received recently have allowed us to double the number of units we have available and, moving forward, every USD 1,200 we raise helps another child.

Darcy Vargas Children’s Hospital Dimension Data in Brazil donated food for children undergoing cancer treatment at Darcy Vargas Children’s Hospital. Our employees really stepped up and we were able to collect USD 397. With this money we bought 10 cans of child supplement formula, 50 bottles of concentrated juice, 44 units of milk cream, 16 kg of powdered milk, six units of chocolate milk and 20 cans of olive oil. The APFCC (Associação Paulista Feminina de Combate ao Câncer), has been taking care of, and providing shelter for children with cancer at the Darcy Vargas Children’s Hospital, helping on average, 300 children a month in the fight against this disease. Most of the patients come from underprivileged communities, and seek help from the association because they don’t have health insurance and aren’t in a position to pay for the medical expenses themselves. With the help of donated foods, the children have four meals a day, which is extremely important for their health and strength as they battle cancer.

‘Choosing to donate to a children’s hospital is so rewarding. There are no words to describe how it feels to help little ones in such a vulnerable position and witness the dedication of the volunteers who keep hope alive and keep the sparkle in their eyes.’ Julia Papacena, Associate Invoice Clerk, Logistics & Supply Chain

Salvation Army: Angel Tree Every year, the Salvation Army helps thousands of low-income families in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area with their many programmes. Through donations, Salvation Army provides gifts to families and children that most likely would receive nothing. Volunteers at the Salvation Army’s distribution centre helped with many duties, including checking recipients in and out of the centre, showing them around to pick out their gifts, helping them back to their cars, and handing out bicycles and speciality items. Charlotte employees were given a chance to ‘adopt’ a child for whom they could purchase clothing and toys for Christmas. The Heads, Hearts and Hands team adopted six of the 30 Angel Tree children and brought items for each child.

The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte is a ‘home away from home’ for families of seriously ill children who are receiving medical treatment at hospitals in Charlotte, North Carolina. During short-term or extended hospital stays, the House provides a haven for families to rest, eat, and find support from one another and the community, as they cope with their children’s medical needs. We organised a 10-member cookie crew to bake delicious treats for the families to help them feel at home. We planned what to bake, purchased the ingredients, and baked the tasty cookies in the House’s kitchen.

Centre 55 Share a Christmas – Adopt a Family Community Centre 55 is an award-winning City of Toronto agency that runs a variety of multiservice programmes that aim to help people to help themselves. One of these programmes is Share a Christmas, which includes Adopt a Family. This is a very special and intimate way of helping a neighbourhood family at Christmas. We adopted a family of five: mom Juaneta and her four children, 10-yearold Dajuan, nine-year-old Dayjean, eight-year-old Jamarhi, and two-yearold baby Rey. Our volunteer team went about procuring gifts, wrapping them, and then delivering these to Juaneta and the little ones. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we provided the older boys with a laptop and a tablet to help them with school work, as well as grocery gift cards, a Christmas tree, and decorations to brighten up their Christmas holiday. The total value of these gifts came to USD 1,400.

Holiday Helpers is a registered charity whose mission is to provide a one-time personalised Christmas package to low-income families with young children who are trying to improve their circumstances. Approximately 85% of the families are single-parent households, some are new Canadians, and all are involved with subsidised agencies for day care or other kinds of family aid. We chose to assist with items for babies and toddlers. Our team scoured the Internet to find good deals to maximise our donations to Holiday Helpers and delivered items to the value of USD 816, which included all kinds of baby and toddler goodies important to new moms, such as diapers, clothes, and formula.

Child Sponsorship World Vision works with communities, empowering them to create genuine, lasting change by providing basic necessities to children and families in need. Dimension Data in Hong Kong sponsors 16 children living in China, under our regional child sponsorship programme through World Vision. This life-changing campaign has helped more than 10 million underprivileged children worldwide to break free from poverty, by providing them with access to a sustainable living environment, educational opportunities, and a chance to develop their potential and pursue their dreams. In addition to sponsoring each child’s daily meals, transportation, and education, we communicate constantly with them, sending greeting cards and stationery sets as gifts as tokens of blessing over the Chinese New Year and other festivities. We hope that our employees’ efforts will inspire the students to work hard and build a prosperous future.

World Vision Spring Charity Barefoot Walk for Children 2017 On 4 February 2017, Dimension Data in Hong Kong participated in the Spring Charity Barefoot Walk for Children to raise funds for programmes aiding the children of South Sudan. The country has been suffering from ruthless conflict since 2013 and, with the pressure of food insecurity, almost one million children are displaced within its borders. A total of 30 participants, including employees and their families, represented us at this event raising more than USD 2,400 where the company and employees contributed in equal measure. This is our eighth consecutive year as a corporate participant in this charitable event and we’re the second runner-up in the Corporate Category: Top Fundraiser. The funds raised provide the much-needed aid to the children and families of South Sudan. It will help build temporary settlements, train caregivers to prepare nutritious meals, and support households to purchase assorted vegetable seeds to promote long-term self-sufficiency in agriculture.

World Vision Used Book Recycling Campaign 2017 On 10 August 2017, and for the tenth consecutive year, Dimension Data in Hong Kong participated in the Used Book Recycling Campaign organised by World Vision. World Vision organised activations at various easily accessible locations such as supermarkets to collect books from donors and recruit volunteers to play different roles in supporting this event. A team of 28 employees volunteered for this project. The team was assigned different supporting roles such as crowd-control, cashier management, stocking books onto different bookshelves, and filtering out stained or inappropriate books. The remaining used books were recycled, which allowed us to be a part of a great initiative to reduce wastage and be more aware of sustainability in our environment. The collected books were sold at the 10-day used-book charity sale for as low as USD 1,30 each. The money raised supports Tianjin Wuqing Children’s Rehabilitation Centre in purchasing new rehabilitative equipment and providing training and special education for special needs children. We’re proud to be a part of this campaign, which is also one of the most popular among our employees as it creates a positive impact on the environment and provides an opportunity for the children to change their lives.

Singapore - World Vision’s Race for Relief Dimension Data in Singapore is proud to be a silver sponsor of World Vision’s inaugural Race-for-Relief event to raise awareness and funding for the hunger crisis which is affecting 22 million people in East Africa due to environmental challenges and social conflicts. About 3.5 million children younger than five are chronically malnourished in the region. Besides donating USD 2,200 to this cause, our employees and their family members took part in the 5 km run to raise awareness and to raise additional funds.

Malaysia - Child Sponsorship Dimension Data in Malaysia has partnered with World Vision Malaysia and has sponsored 20 children annually from all over Asia. Word Vision Malaysia supports the community development and humanitarian programmes in 15 countries.

Bicycles donated to primary schools The global Qhubeka initiative is very meaningful to the team and inspired us to help children living in the rural areas of Taiwan. We organised an event to fund bicycles for primary school students so that they’re able to get to school safely and reduce travel time. We launched the two-phase campaign to donate bicycles to Taiwanese primary school students at our country Sales Kick-Off. The first phase was the bicycle-assembling race. Employees were divided into eight teams and each group had to assemble a bicycle and then choose a participant to ride it to a set destination. The fastest three teams were declared the winners.

56

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

The second phase was the donation of the eight bicycles to two Taiwanese primary schools, Dong-Pu Elementary School and Lo-Na Primary School. Both are located in remote mountainous areas, where families are economically vulnerable and resources are low. We would like to highlight the work of the two principals from these schools. Eight years ago, they observed that many of the students were without family care over the weekends, as their parents had to work. So, every Saturday morning, the principals rented five large buses to carry more than a hundred children to the school to take extra lessons and sing in a choir. The result was The Vox Nativa Taiwan Choir group. The choir has been so successful that they’ve contributed to the 2013 award-winning documentary Beyond Beauty – Taiwan From Above and were invited to perform at St. Peter’s Basilica at the invitation of the Vienna Choir in September 2015. We’ve been so moved by the passion and spirit of these two principals and their contributions, and were honoured to have them and other school representatives at our Kick-Off to receive our donation. Dimension Data Asia Pacific COO Herbert Bockers and Dimension Data in Taiwan’s General Manager Frank Liao presented the bicycles to the schools. Besides the eight bicycles donated by the company, Ted Wang and Andrew Liu also donated an extra eight bicycles and four bicycles respectively. In addition, Frank Liao, Judy Chen, and Catherine Chen sponsored USD 1,600, USD 199, and USD 1,600 respectively towards education for the schoolchildren of Lo-Na Primary School and Dong-Pu Elementary School.

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

We chose to hold a Joy of Giving Day where we encouraged employees to donate food to neighbourhood orphanages. More than a hundred members were involved and we collected about 500 kg of rice, dhal, flour, and sugar at the event. We then donated this to two children’s homes, Ma Niketan and Divya Prabha Home for Girls in Distress. Ma Niketan is a charitable trust, for underprivileged girl children between the ages of five and 18 who’ve been deprived of familial love, affection, and security. Divya Prabha is a charitable trust looking after about 20 girls between the ages of five and 12. We believe girls have the right to education and to develop to their fullest potential. For this, they require a proper environment for healthy development. We envision a society where every girl, no matter her circumstances, will be able to enjoy equal opportunities, a healthy environment, the right to self-dignity, and the chance to become a fully independent and self-sufficient adult.

‘Our Joy of Giving Day was a wonderful time to unwind from a busy schedule, but it also served a worthwhile cause, and we’re grateful that we had the opportunity to contribute to the community in this way.’ Employee

Earth Hour 2017 ‘Switch off to light up the future’ was the spirit with which Dimension Data in India celebrated Earth Hour. Ever since we joined the movement, our collective efforts towards the fight against climate change has gained momentum and it was at an all-time high in 2017. On 24 March, our employees across the region showed commitment towards the cause by turning off the lights in their office for two hours, from 12.30–14.30. For the whole day, everyone was also encouraged to adopt a lifestyle of careful consumption, starting with minimising their use of paper. Through the combination of environmental awareness and conscious lifestyle changes, we pledge to strengthen our commitment to the fight against climate change and to contribute to a future where people and nature thrive in harmony.

Singapore Zoo White Rhinos In line with our Connected Conservation efforts, Dimension Data Asia Pacific and Dimension Data in Singapore adopted eight white rhinoceroses and committed to sponsoring their enclosure at the Singapore Zoo on 1 February 2017. We also recently received exciting news from the zoo that we’re now the proud parents of a new-born white rhino calf! An endearing video of mom and baby was posted on their Facebook page. Watch it here: https://www.facebook.com/wrs.sg/videos/10154770433802051/

CARE Singapore The Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE) is a charity appointed by the Ministry of Social and Family Development to help youths in local schools by assisting them in gaining confidence and building resilience and skills for life. CARE partnered with schools to design programmes catering especially for students from less privileged backgrounds. CARE is currently promoting their Green Champion Programme to engage youths about environmental and animal-welfare education. This ties in nicely with our ethos of ‘Connected Conservation’.

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

We tasked 15 students from a local school to work on a ‘How technology can save animals’ project. On 4 September 2017, one volunteer and two Heads, Hearts and Hands representatives went to CARE to help the students with this. Their presence and guidance boosted student morale and helped them to prepare for their presentation at our office on 7 September. For many of these students, it was their first opportunity to visit a corporate office. It was a meaningful event where the students learned how technology is used to conserve endangered animals. Special recognition goes to Png Kim Meng, Singapore’s Country General Manager, who excited the students by showing them how wonderful technology can be and how it expands our horizons. Joe Lee, Yew Ann, Yixiang Hong, Tony Chew, Jia En, Hashimah Bachok, Corrine Lim, Catherine Koh, and Junie Toh also supported the event and shared their expertise and insights with the students by giving them constructive feedback and recognition. The feedback from CARE Singapore revealed that the experience had helped to enrich the students’ understanding about wildlife conservation and how technology can contribute to conservation efforts. Dimension Data in Singapore also awarded each team of students with USD 184 in CapitaLand vouchers as a small token for their hard work and effort.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Dimension Data in Hong Kong participated in the scholarship programme organised by the Department of Information Technology at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. This programme aims to award bursaries to students based on academic merit for scholarship and their financial needs. Bursaries help to alleviate the financial pressures placed on underprivileged students and are vital tools of encouragement to inspire them to work to the best of their abilities. This year, two scholarships and two bursaries worth a total of USD 2,500 were presented to four students at the Student Awards Presentation Ceremony. With these financial aids, we aim to help the students further excel at their studies and pursue a bright future. We look forward to watching their progress.

CHERISH Home Charity Carnival 68

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

Dimension Data in Malaysia participated in the Charity Food and Fun Fair Carnival in aid of Cameron Highlands Educational Rehabilitation Informative Special Home (CHERISH) held on 19 November 2016. Employees bought 100 carnival voucher booklets worth USD 236 and donated them to CHERISH. 10 of our employees contributed by making goods and pastries for sale at the carnival. At the end of the day, a total of USD 768 was raised from contributions and sales of the goodies and booklet vouchers. Everyone left happy as they were able to contribute their time and energy towards this cause. CHERISH opened in 2007, providing day care and residential programmes for almost 40 special needs children from Cameron Highlands and other parts of the country. We sponsor the monthly rental for these special needs children. On 12 and 13 August 2017, approximately 35 employees visited the CHERISH home. We donated food supplies, towels, bed sheets, and colouring pencils, among other items. General Manager Henrick Choo was there to present a USD 2,363 donation and our employees made a combined donation of USD 355 as well. We also took this opportunity to join the Cameron reforestation project by teaming up with the Regional Environmental Awareness Cameron Highlands organisation, where our employees had hands-on experience of planting 60 saplings. We’re grateful to be a part of these programmes, helping our children and reforesting our environment, building towards a better world for our future generations.

Pimp My Tuk Tuk Road Trip Across Sri Lanka Many of our employees do amazing things that make a difference in our world, but Steve Paulachak deserves special mention. For a number of years, Steve and his friends have been participating in the Pimp My Tuk Tuk event. This is a Singapore-based charity fund-raising private group consisting primarily of expats who want to give back to the communities they live in. They participated for the first time in 2013, driving more than 1,000 km across India and raising USD 66,150. In 2015, they drove across Sri Lanka and raised USD 257,259. Here’s a video of last year’s Tuk Tuk run: https://vimeo.com/144967975 This year the destination was once again Sri Lanka.

Employees from Dimension Data Asia Pacific and Dimension Data in Singapore responded to Steve and his team’s call for donations. Together, our employees donated more than 15 boxes weighing 20 kg each of items for the crew to drop off at schools, orphanages, and homes across Sri Lanka. In total, the Pimp My Tuk Tuk crew set off with more than 90 boxes of toys and items donated from friends, family, and colleagues. With 26 tuk tuks and 53 members, the crew managed the 1,000 km trip across Sri Lanka in eight days. Over that time, they raised USD 183,774, installed solar panels for a village of 70 families, and built the solar panels and water storage tank for Meth Sewa Foundation, a special needs orphanage. The crew also built three reverse osmosis water plants. Each plant serves 300 families (about 1,500 villagers) with clean water. This access to clean drinking water saves lives as, to date, 30 people have died from chronic kidney disease due to contaminated drinking water. All of the money received from donations goes directly to one of the supported charities, and all participants of the event paid their own way on this project. Special mention must go to the team who helped to collate, pack, and deliver the items: Stacy Koh, Patherine Wee, Michelle Tang, and Melissa-SY Lim. https://www.facebook.com/PimpMyTukTuk/

‘We all felt very humbled by this experience. Personally, I question my attitude in life now. Complaining that a beer isn’t cold enough or my meal at an expensive restaurant wasn’t up to my standard just seems so asinine. I’m now making it my life’s mission to support the good people I met on this trip and others like them.’ Steve Paulachak, EUC Go-to-Market Senior Manager

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

In celebration of its 25-year anniversary, Dimension Data in Thailand initiated the Ride-2-School project which benefits underprivileged students in the country. Employees and some of our corporate partners donated funds that were used to buy bicycles for the students With the cooperation of educational institutions in various provinces across the country, the team identified communities living a significant distance away from schools and the students who stand to benefit most from the project. We travelled to 18 schools in Ratchaburi Province to present 100 new bicycles to children. On 18 March 2017, we donated 100 new bicycles to 15 schools in the Saraburi and Lopburi provinces, and on 10 June 2017, we donated 80 new bicycles to eight schools in Kanchanaburi Province. In September, we teamed up with NTT Communications and NTT Datacom, to buy 209 bicycles for 65 schools in the Sisaket Province. Our employees have also participated in a Heads, Hearts and Hands activity with a local school by cleaning, installing an IT system, donating items such as computer notebooks, dolls, educational equipment and money, and supplying soft drinks and ice cream for the children. With the continued support from employees and partners, The Ride-2-School project aims to distribute 2,000 bicycles by the end of 2018. With a continuous delivery of bicycles to children in rural areas on a quarterly basis, we’re more than halfway there!

Football for Peace Festival Cup Many people say that innocence and being carefree are some of the enviable qualities that come with being young. But some children from the southern part of the Philippines have grown accustomed to fighting and violence, living their vulnerable formative years surrounded by war and, in the worst cases, being forced to join insurgent groups. This is the primary reason why the Philippines Marines founded Football for Peace in 2011. What began with one ball kicked between a group of marines, has inspired a movement to give children a chance to play, across the islands of Basilan, Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi – all areas in southern Philippines marred by clashes and violence.

76

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

The main goal for the Marines is to bridge the gap between themselves and the local community. The Army and the Marines have been teaching kids in 11 provinces through the programme. Every summer, children from the different conflict areas are hosted by the Marines and various sponsors in Manila, many of them for the first time. In 2017, 247 kids ages six to 12, were brought to Manila on a C130 plane to participate in the Football for Peace Festival Cup 2017. Dimension Data in the Philippines, with the help of Jollibee, prepared a treat-filled lunch break for them to remember. In the weeks leading up to the event, each business unit was given a challenge to raise the most funds. In one and a half weeks, they raised USD 1,260, exceeding the target set! During the event, our volunteers arrived with 350 sets of two-piece chicken lunch packs, along with Popsicle and cotton candy carts. Jollibee, our local mascot, also made his appearance to the delight of the kids and adults alike. With all the messages of thanks and happy smiles, we’re confident that we provided the little ones with a day to remember. As for us, the takeaway is learning about what life is like for these children and we’re grateful for the opportunity to make a small difference in their lives.

It coincided with the opening of a new bike track the school had built and the bikes were issued as a resource for the children to use while at school as part of their physical education. Dimension Data in New Zealand and Variety donated 50 bikes and helmets to Point England, with plans to replicate this at other schools around the country. The looks on the kids’ faces was phenomenal and it was great to see them take the inaugural ride around the track with their new bikes.

Saturday School The Dimension Data Saturday School programme is our flagship initiative and aims to improve the quality of life of previously disadvantaged youth. The programme runs over a two-year period and assists one hundred learners every year, focusing on supplemental learning based on the Grade 11 and 12 school curricula, while emphasising the holistic development of every learner. The programme was developed to afford previously disadvantaged high school children the opportunity to further their studies and obtain applicable life skills. Since its inception in 1995, the Saturday School has consistently achieved 100% pass rate every year and continues to empower high school learners through the provision of weekly supplemental tutoring, creating opportunities for them to make something meaningful of their lives. In 2015, the curriculum was enhanced to include a module on Leadership and Entrepreneurship. From 2018, the curriculum will also include Coding and Ethics modules.

84

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

The Saturday School is based at our Head Office at The Campus, with lessons taking place every Saturday of the school calendar year. We hire professional tutors who provide quality and targeted education to the learners. These dedicated tutors continuously come up with creative ways of tackling the subjects, relating seemingly complex concepts to real life situations, which helps make subjects such as mathematics ‘friendlier’ to our learners. Most learners who struggle with the subject improve quickly and dramatically, with an impressive number of learners achieving distinctions in mathematics and in the other subjects as well. The programme is complemented by various activities and initiatives such as the Winter School programme, career days, job shadowing experience and Junior Tukkie programme which is run by our partner, University of Pretoria. These activities add considerable value for the learners and form part of their developmental journey. In support of the company’s vision to empower the youth, our employees play an important role in the school and continue to volunteer their time and skills towards the programme. The Dimension Data Saturday School intake took place at the beginning of the year in January 2017. We interviewed a total of 180 potential learners, out of which 50 formed part of the Dimension Data Saturday School Programme for 2017. In addition we reserved five places in the Saturday School programme for children of Dimension Data employees. The Saturday School Class of 2017 achieved a 100% pass rate, 98% university entrance and, 110 distinctions.

Merchants Vodacom BU

Building a sustainable future Merchants SA, the training department of the Vodacom Business Unit, has embarked on a community-training initiative in Soweto, south of Johannesburg. We liaised with a community representative who supplied the CVs of suitable candidates to Merchants HR. We then ran the initiative in the community to save costs. A group of 55 unemployed youth and adults were trained in three groups on a three-day programme. The following topics were facilitated: • Who is Merchants? • Building a personal brand. • Is there a science behind the ‘art of conversation’? • The World at Work: The top 10 things employers are looking look for. • Preparing a CV and role playing for interviews. • Career sites for job vacancies and networking. • Fraud and ethics in the work place. • The fundamentals of a contact centre.

86

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

The aim of the initiative was to reach out to unemployed adults and youth in the community who need the motivation, confidence, and the basic skills to enter the working world. We wanted them to know that there’s a huge world of opportunity outside of Soweto and to help them broaden their perspectives on work. We also created a pipeline of candidates who could potentially be placed into the role of ‘agent’ within Merchants SA and already had work readiness training. Importantly, this initiative keeps unemployed youth and adults economically minded and active. The learners showed great appreciation to Merchants SA for everything they learned and we’ll be measuring the success of this initiative by tracking the candidates’ journey until they find meaningful work.

We invited Britehouse to collaborate for this worthy cause. We donated a jungle gym, while Britehouse took care of the children’s safety by fencing the premises and adding some grass around the newly installed jungle gym, at the cost of USD 1,881. We have previously assisted Aunty Suzi’s with donations and tasks such as completing the roof, painting, building shelves, and supplying indoor games, books, and beds. We’ve also contributed knitted blankets to the day care and successfully implemented the Santa Shoe Box project.

Britehouse was honoured with the Top Gender Empowered: Skills Development Award for the implementation of its consistent and progressive skills development strategy. One of the key initiatives Britehouse has undertaken, which drew the company’s attention to Standard Bank Top Women, is its collaboration with the Diepsloot Preschools Project and Training Force. Britehouse, together with Diepsloot Preschools Project and Training Force, embarked on a year-long project that focused on early childhood development certification for previously unemployed childminders in underprivileged areas. The pilot project launched in April 2016, with 23 teaching assistants from 19 preschools in Diepsloot, Gauteng, being trained using a blended learning approach, delivered through the Britehouse digital hub. These previously unemployed ladies were given a two-year employment contract at a preschool from under the banner of the Diepsloot Preschools Project, while they attended the training course. This allowed them to pursue their studies and earn an income. To date, 20 Diepsloot preschools and approximately 500 learners from five schools across the country, have been impacted by this skills development initiative. Britehouse is also tied to several preschools in the Cape, where they are looking at hosting future courses. Furthermore, Britehouse hosted a Business Administration course which saw 34 learners sign up.

‘We consider the training of these women, who in some cases are also the owners of the preschools, as enterprise development, and chose to get involved in this project because of the multi-layered benefits it offers to the community’ Emmeline Bester, Britehouse CSI Manager

Cisco Leaderboard Triathlon Relay Three years ago, a group of business leaders from across the UK were brought together by Phil Smith, Cisco Chairman for the UK and Ireland, to compete in a triathlon and raise money for Comic Relief. The Leaderboard returned in 2017 for its fourth triathlon challenge, in the form of a team relay, to support Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. With a focus on health, well-being, and fundraising, the aim is to make this the most connected triathlon ever, from training beforehand to tracking participants around the course on the day, and encouraging some healthy competition along the way. We entered five teams of six people (30 in total) for the triathlon, with team members taking on either swimming, cycling, or running. In total, we donated USD 13,300 to Comic Relief. Comic Relief is a major charity based in the UK, with a vision of a just world, free from poverty. The money raised is put towards incredible projects in the UK and across the world, that are effectively tackling inequality and making lasting change.

In total, we donated USD 2,327, which was used to buy these wonderful gifts. A team of five people organised the Christmas party, which hosted more than 250 employees. It was a very festive atmosphere, with a Christmas market theme set up outside the building, and dancing inside. School of Internet Since we are a main player in the technology arena, we wanted to use our knowledge to help future generations make the most of tech in an expansive, but safe, way. Over the course of 2017, 16 of our employees met with more than a thousand students across 10 schools, as well as their parents and teachers, to unpack topics such as online privacy and the impacts of cyberbullying and sexting, among other things. Our School of Internet initiative has been running for several years and supports and operates along the Safer Internet Day principles. The work we do has become so popular that many schools invite us to contribute every year. Usually, we’ll meet the students in the classroom for about two hours in the morning and chat to the teachers and parents in the evening or on a Saturday morning.

‘When I was a student I always wondered what I would’ve been like as a teacher. Now, in my role of networking expert, I actually have the opportunity to experience this now. 2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

Cisco and Dimension Data are committed to serving our local communities. To commemorate 25 years as business partners, our two companies committed to completing 25 community service projects around the world. Our goal was to give back to our communities and clients in ways that would also enable Cisco and Dimension Data employees to get to know one another outside of the usual office environment, strengthening their sense of shared priorities. The partnership between Dimension Data and Cisco started with a handshake in 1991, and since then the two companies have become Better Together — changing the world for the better, each and every day. The partnership has been rewarding for both companies and our clients. Tapping into each other’s strengths has enabled us to create a continuous cycle of innovation that enriches the way people work and play. Year after year, we’ve helped our clients dream, innovate, and achieve great things with technology.

‘From the beginning, there was a relationship of trust. This trust has enabled us to thrive together as partners for more than 25 years and make a difference for our clients, local communities, and global issues such as conservation. I think, if you get an idea or a dream that you want to perform, or do, or realise, there’s no time like the present.’ Bruce ‘Doc’ Watson, Group Executive, Cisco Alliance: Dimension Data Read about these 25 projects here: https://www2.dimensiondata.com/-/media/dd/corporate/pdfs/cisco-dimensiondata-25-years 115

2017 Heads, Hearts and Hands Report Working together to help change lives

‘There’s potential for greatness in all of us. The first step is believing you can.’ Our great people use their Heads, Hearts and Hands to make a difference to communities that don’t always have the opportunities and advantages we often take for granted in our everyday lives. Every year, Dimension Data’s approach to making a sustainable difference in the communities in which we operate, becomes more deeply embedded into the way we do business. I’m particularly proud of a core value visible in every one of our employees: we respect and care deeply about our people, our community and our environment. Nowhere is this more evident than in the HHH initiatives our people have been involved in this year. Our employees have especially given fantastic support to our global charity, Qhubeka. We’ve teamed up with Qhubeka to donate bicycles to South African children in need ensuring that they have access to education. We believe that a small investment in education makes a life-long impact. Our Heads, Hearts and Hands programme has many more inspiring stories this year. Stories that truly showcase that ‘greatness’ always leaves a legacy – regardless of where you are in the world. I’m proud of the impact our employees have made this year, and will continue to make. A big thank you to all employees for their continued support, enthusiasm and innovation in making a difference. Regards,
