Religious Liberty in Jeopardy The Pilgrims came to America in search of religious freedom. In 1789, the Bill of Rights was enacted, with the very first line of the first Amendment protecting freedom of religion. Now Obamacare threatens to eliminate religious liberty. Companies like Hobby Lobby have sued the federal government for requiring them to pay for contraception in employee coverage. This is a violation of their Christian beliefs. Hobby Lobby could be forced to pay fines of $1.3 million per day for refusing to comply.
