Health Freedom Minute October 7, 2014

Hospital Tells Doctors How to Practice Forty-two percent of doctors are salaried employees of hospital systems so drug companies no longer send sales reps to doctors. The send them to hospital administrators who decide what drugs are included on the list of approved drugs, otherwise known as a formulary. Many hospitals forbid contact with doctors making it harder for doctors to learn about new drugs. But administrators says new drugs cost more, and if patients canʼt afford the costs theyʼll end up being readmitted, something hospitals want to avoid because Obamacare penalizes readmissions. Thus, doctors are giving up their independence, hospitals are controlling what your doctor can prescribe, and new drugs are going to be less available because of Obamacare. “Drug Firms Redirect Pitch to Hospitals,” Jonathan D. Rockoff, The Wall Street Journal, September 25, 2014.
