$3.8 Billion and Counting for Exchanges The Obama administration has doled out $3.8 billion to state Obamacare exchanges. There are only 14 of them, and many of them fear the loss of funding on January 1, 2015. Imagine the cost to federal taxpayers if all the states had decided to establish these federal takeover centers. California is already setting aside $200 million in anticipation of the loss of funding. Minnesotaʼs exchange expects a $3 million deficit. States that said no to Obamaʼs exchange donʼt face financial crisis. Nor are they in the news having to explain why the exchange doesnʼt work, or why the peopleʼs data is not secure.
