Opportunity Summary: The W. W. Smith Charitable Trust is a private foundation specifically focused on areas involving basic needs for food, clothing and shelter; supplementing higher education scholarship programs; supporting maritime education/maritime heritage preservation; and basic medical research primarily in Heart Disease, Cancer and AIDS. The W.W Smith Charitable Trust will make grant funds available for eligible scientists in support of basic heart disease, cancer and AIDS research projects. The Trust highlights the importance of basic medical research in the area of Juvenile Diabetes and continues to provide funds for finding a cure. The philosophy of the Trust has been not to replicate governmental funding organizations, but identify and fund projects that are unique and meritorious. Application password: wwsctmed216

Eligibility & Requirements: • •

Faculty with primary appointments in universities, hospitals and research centers within the Delaware Valley area may apply. The Trust will not support large general programs or project grants fund research centers.

Internal Nomination Process: Interested applicants should submit the following documents: 1. JHU Limited Submission Cover Sheet 2. Statement identifying area of research (heart disease, cancer or AIDS) for which you are applying 3. Proposal (maximum of two pages of text only, single spaced: 12-pt font and one-inch margins) (Note: figures, tables, and other reference material may be included in addition to the 2 pg. text limit) 4. Curriculum Vitae of investigator, including current external research support and publications 5. Budget (two pages maximum)
