Heart Pine Counters Answering Your Top Questions Reclaimed Heart Pine is an excellent choice for countertops. It is durable and beautiful and only improves with age. We would love to make your home stand apart with wood countertops, but we also know you have some question. Read on...

The Top 5 Questions: 1. Is wood really durable enough for a kitchen counter?   Absolutely!  You would not hesitate to  use wood for a floor, and just think of the traffic a floor gets.  Wood is an incredibly durable  surface that only improves with age.  2. But... what if it gets wet?   No problem.  Our counters are finished with Tung Oil, which soaks  into the pores of the wood and repels water.  Perhaps a wet cup left overnight would leave a  ring... but that's an easy fix (see #4).  3. How would I clean it?   Same as you clean your dining room table.  Just stay away from the  harsh cleaners.  Simple soap and water will do the job.  4. What if it gets scratched?   Just relax!  Our Tung Oil finish is easy to touch up.  If you get a  scratched or marred surface, simply sand the blemish out and reoil the spot.  You can touch  up or repair one spot without having to do the entire counter.  5. ...But there is just no way wood is as durable as granite, what gives?   Granite has some  great qualities, namely the ability to handle knives and hot dishes.  With wood, you will need  to use cutting boards and trivets.  That said, granite is still a porous surface that must be  sealed, and it is susceptible to chipping.  Try sanding out a chipped granite counter.

I hope you are sold on the idea of wood counters by this point, but I am sure you still want more information. What is it like living with wood countertops day in and day out? Keep reading for more about daily use and care.

Daily use ● Treat your Heart Pine counters as you would a wood table. Always use cutting boards

and set hot dishes on trivets. ● Wipe up spills promptly and pick up glasses to avoid water rings. ● After regular use, clean with soap and water. Never use vinegar, bleach or other harsh

cleaners. ● For stubborn stains and odors, sprinkle with salt and rub in with a lemon wedge. Wipe

with soap and water.

Routine Care ● Over the first few months of use, the grain on the wood may raise slightly. Simply

sand back down with 220 grit sand paper. ● You may touch up your counter top as needed with butcher block oil, tung oil or others. ● Once a year, re-oil your counter with tung oil/citrus solvent. Simply wipe the oil on,

allow to sit for 30 minutes, then wipe dry. ● After oiling, your counters will take up to 30 days to fully cure.

Maintenance ● If your surface is marred or damaged, sand the damaged spot out. Finish with 150 grit

paper. ●   Re-oil the affected area.
