Heather Prather, Midlothian ISD Board Trustee Heather Prather is an accountant by training whose career evolved into the niche market of real estate and leasing finance. She worked for 25 years for firms such as KPMG, Trammel Crow and Neiman Marcus overseeing every aspect of the planning, construction, and leasing of commercial properties. She enjoys being involved in the budgeting, planning and financing of projects, which is vitally important as the Midlothian school district continues to grow. “Seeing how all the pieces and the numbers fit together and seeing that all come to fruition is what I do,” said Prather. She does admit that school funding is completely different than any other field. “The state has all the decision-making power and we don’t have as much local control as we’d like,” she said. It would be ideal to have “more control at the local level from financing to the curriculum itself. Local leaders know their city, their principality and what their kids need” better than someone in Austin. Prather cited the approval of the MISD as a district on innovation as one step closer to achieving local control. She is a Midlothian High School graduate as is her husband Greg. In fact, he was her first date when she was 15 years old. She attended SMU while Greg went to Texas Tech but eventually they rediscovered each other and have been married for 11 years.
