Helping members and their families in times of need

Supporting your Benevolent Fund

Please donate £2

CIMA members and their families are as vulnerable as anyone else to life’s misfortunes. CIMA Benevolent Fund is a unique charity set up specifically to help members and their families through hard times.

This year, when you are paying your CIMA subscription, you will be invited to make a £2 donation to the Benevolent Fund. Please respond generously to this appeal (and you will be able to opt to donate a higher amount if you so choose).

“I feel part of the extended CIMA family. Contributing to the CIMA Benevolent Fund is a way of helping other less fortunate members and their families when they experience hard times.” A donor The Fund relies on CIMA members to donate the resources it needs to do this. We send our heartfelt thanks to the many CIMA members who already donate generously to the Fund. However, as CIMA membership continues to grow in the years ahead, the Fund is likely to need considerably more resources to be able to meet all deserving calls for help. (The Fund does not help AICPA members, who have their own, separate, benevolent fund.)

If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box to make your £2 worth £2.50 to the Fund.

“We are well and truly clear of the deep financial hole in which we once were trapped, not least because of the support from the Fund.” A beneficiary

More people the Fund has helped

The Benevolent Fund helps members and their families through a wide range of difficulties. The problem could be a work-preventing illness, a disability in the family requiring expensive equipment or adaptations or simply prolonged difficulties finding work. The ways in which the Fund helps are equally varied. For example:

Thomas was found to have a benign brain tumour at about the same time as he failed his probationary period in a new job. After brain surgery and radiotherapy he is now having prolonged rehabilitation treatment before he starts looking for a new job. In the meantime, his wife has had to move to lower-paid, part-time work in order to be able to care for their two young children. The Fund is helping them with a regular grant towards their household expenses over this difficult period.

• we can offer a regular grant towards your everyday living expenses if you are unable to work due to a serious illness or injury • we can cover the cost of urgent medical treatment which is not publicly funded if your child requires this • we can make a grant to help with your family’s immediate needs if your partner is made redundant • we can help if someone in your household needs expensive equipment to help with a disability

John gave up his promising career with a global company in South Africa to start his own coaching business. Sadly, this venture did not succeed and John found himself without work and heavily in debt. The Fund helped him clear his priority debts and is now helping with everyday household expenses and school fees for his young children while John looks for new work.

• if early, unexpected bereavement is creating financial difficulties we can help you through this adjustment.

Thank you to all of you
