HERB J. WESSON, JR. PRESIDENT, LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL COUNCILMEMBER, 10TH DISTRICT

August 31, 2017 The Honorable Donald J. Trump President of the United States The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, DC 20500 Dear Mr. President: We are sending this letter to urge you not to repeal or reduce the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. California is home to more than 200,000 DACA recipients, and terminating this program would be a betrayal of America’s promise that if you work hard and do your part, there will always be a place for you here. We made a promise to over 800,000 young people, and they’ve kept up their end of the deal. It’s imperative that we keep up ours. History will not look lightly upon the decision to end DACA and put 800,000 good, hardworking young people at risk of deportation. They are members of our communities, students at our universities and contributors to our economies. Pulling away this safety net would upend and disrupt the institutions that our country is built upon. Los Angeles, like cities across the United States, has been made better by DREAMers. Ending DACA would be a violation of our values and require a level of heartlessness that has no place in our country. We strongly urge you not to repeal DACA and to empower Congress to enact broader immigration reform that is reasonable, humane and fair. Sincerely,
