Local Rules  

          

NO warm ups in the goal circles. Training to be conducted on F5 and F6 where possible. o If on other fields goals to be placed on side of fields towards half way o U9 can train on U7 field if not being used by U7 coach No dogs – unless a medical certificate is sighted by RHA officials No hitting of balls at the cricket nets Cricket pitch between F3 & F4 is out of Bounds at all times Warm ups to be held in the designated areas Park only in the designated parking zones Teams must have a fully kitted Goal Keeper to play. Goal keepers can play up to 2 games per day Goal keepers may fill in for other GK’s as RHA do not have enough experienced GK’s U12s – coaches to be allowed on the field (out of play) until the end of May. U9s – coaches always allowed on the fields (out of play) U9s – to play from Week 3- short corners, 3 metre rule and travelling 3 metres before going into circle from a free hit.

Game Rules 1. No persons are allowed behind the goal posts or back of field at any time DURING A GAME. a) RHA rules: 1. Raised stick rule to be implemented in U16 and up 2. Tomahawks:  Up to U16 – not allowed  Seniors can do anywhere on field  Reverse slap sticks are allowed at any level as long as not dangerous – need to inform all umpires and players TOMAHAWK RULING 1. It has been determined by the Redlands Hockey Association, that because the Tomahawk shot requires a high degree of skill, it will only be permitted in the Senior competitions. This is consistent with a number of other Hockey Queensland and State Associations. This ruling will be reviewed by the Redlands Hockey Association on an annual basis. N.B. This ruling will be applied in 2016 to U7/9/12/16 divisions

2. As the Tomahawk shot is allowed in other competitions in which Redlands Hockey participates, eg. State Championships, inter-club matches, it is important that all players become familiar with the shot and learn how to execute it correctly. Even more importantly, they need to learn how to defend against it and manage themselves when they are around such shots being taken. In this regard the RHA Coaching Co-ordinator will ensure Coaches and players (of acceptable age and skill level) receive adequate training on how to execute and defend the Tomahawk shot appropriately in the future. 3. Umpires should be reminded that dangerous play applies in all situations regardless of the legality of the “Tomahawk”. If in the Umpires opinion, a Tomahawk shot is being executed dangerously or in inappropriate circumstances then the umpire has the discretion to penalise the breach accordingly. Players Players registered with RHA are identified as follows:  Senior player. At RHA, any player over the age of 16 is eligible to play in senior competitions. Individual consideration will be given to age 14-16 players expressing interest in playing senior games. Players must have parent and Board approval  Junior player. HQ and RHA. Any player over the age of 8 and not reached the age of 17 that year  Under 7 Rookey player. Any player over the age of 4 and not older than 7 in that year  Under 9 Rookey player. Any player over the age of 7 and not older than 9 in that year  Primary Registered player is a player who plays only for RHA in fixtures and representative events and RHA is there primary association  Dual Registered Player plays for RHA and another association registered with HQ  Players are ONLY allowed to play 2 games per day with RHA. This includes, Jnr Comp & Senior Comp

Uniforms and Safety Equipment    

All Junior Players are only allowed on the field if they are wearing shin pads and a mouthguard. Senior Players – it is strongly recommended that all players wear shin pads and mouthguards. NO hard peaked hats allowed. Only soft brimmed allowed on the field. No jewellery to be worn

Trials will be run over 3 weeks –juniors and seniors on a separate day and finally combined on 1 last day. ALL players are required to play the trial games All players must register online to be eligible for team placement New players have 1 fixture to “come and try” before registration is compulsory Teams will be formed after the trial dates to ensure that all teams have been created with reference to o Players strengths o Evenness of teams o Friendships o Player preferences for teams o Junior players play in their age division. Only exceptional circumstances will be considered by the Junior committee and then sent to the Board for a decision. Teams will be formed by the junior and senior subcommittees and forwarded to Board for approval Teams will then be posted online on RHA website and RHA Face book Junior teams will require a coach and a manager. o EOI will be placed in newsletters for these positions Coaches will be appointed by the Coaching committee in consultation with the Junior committee. Criteria for coaches will be developed by the coaching committee Players in seniors will receive an email with their team list and emails Junior team lists will be emailed to coaches Saturday 9th April (Round 1). Teams swap shirts Managers meeting. Thursday prior to Round 1. Distribute equipment and explain procedures and duties of managers

Every team must have a Goal Keeper to take the field. As there are not enough dedicated GK’s at RHA, the GK’s may play 2 games per day. In juniors, teams may approach a GK from division below to sub for them. In seniors, GK may play across their division if required.



If there are no GK’s available, then a team player MUST take the position of GK

Junior Competition    

Played on 1/6 size of field Skills based and mini games played. Players should be assessed throughout season to determine if they are able to sub up into the U9 games Move into more structured field games for 2nd half of season

U9 games   

Played on ½ fields There are no Goal Keeper Inclusion of short corners when coaches feel teams are ready  When playing short corners all defending players must stand outside the goal on opposite side to where ball is being hit in U 9 coaches are allowed on fields but not interfere with play Rules are modified to allow for the game to flow e.g. off the foot is allowed only if it occurs outside the circles and doesn’t influence play

Subbing in Junior Competition  

Per rules of hockey maximum of 16 players permitted on a team card. Coaches should only list the number of players they will require to ensure that all players on the team card receive a reasonable amount of game time. Subs will come from the same coloured team in the division below. Where the below division does not have a team of that colour subs will come from a combination of other teams in that division.

When the number of teams in a lower division is greater than the number of teams in the higher division, the teams with-out a similar colour will become feeders to a combination of other teams. As this methodology is based on the equity principal, it is expected that coaches with excess capacity will agree to relinquish subs to another team (irrespective of colour) that has limited capacity as a result of exceptional circumstances. 

Players will be chosen to sub up after consultation between team coaches from the different age groups in the same colour (or shared colour) in each division.



Subbing is to be fair and equitable so that a player in their own division is not subbed off by a player from a lower division for an unreasonable period of time.



Should any issue arise in respect of subbing, this is to be reported to the Junior Committee and the Coaching Committee to resolve.

6 Women’s teams 4 men’s teams Reminder of Local Association Rule: All games (U12 to Senior inclusive) require each team to have a fully kitted goalkeeper. If a team does not have a fully kitted goalkeeper, they forfeit the game Substitution players:  Substitution players may only be used if a team has less than 11 players  Teams may use players from the division below unless they have already played 2 games. No player can play more than 2 games per day A list of eligible players from U16’s will be determined by the junior committee and the names supplied to the senior committee who will inform captains/managers of the senior teams as to who is available for subbing.

TECH BENCH DUTIES A tech bench coordinator will manage the tech area Juniors- managers are to be the tech bench person for each junior team unless an official tech bench person has been appointed for that game Seniors- Must supply a tech bench and umpire as allocated on the draw GAMES:

Teams MUST take the field PRIOR to the starting hooter. Failure to do so results in the Captain receiving a Green card2 min suspension. Teams are deemed ready to play when their GK is within the 25m section

Eligibility - Seniors  

Players must have played a minimum of 5 games throughout season to be eligible to participate in the finals Juniors playing in seniors, must also have played a minimum of 5 games within the senior competition to be eligible to participate in the finals for that team.

Substitution players in juniors, where playing in a higher age division, must also have played a minimum of 5 games within that higher division to be eligible to participate in the finals for that team.

Umpires and Tech Bench 





Junior Games o Umpires are allocated each week by the umpire committee and posted on RHA website o It is the duty of allocated umpires to ensure they are on time and well prepared. If unavailable, they are to find a replacement for their game and notify the Umpire coordinator Senior games o Teams are rostered on for umpire and tech bench duties each week. o It is the captain/managers responsibility to ensure duties are fulfilled Umpires and appointed tech bench officials are paid the following

Uniforms and protective gear There are 7 colours used in uniforms by RHA.      

White, Red, Blue, Gold, Maroon and Green for U9-seniors Teal for U7 Shirts and socks are to be purchased from RHA Black shorts, skirts or skorts are to be worn by every player. No pockets NO hard peaked hats allowed. Only soft brimmed allowed on the field. No jewellery to be worn during games

Representative teams RHA offers representative opportunities for U11, U13, U15, U18, Opens and Masters. EOI are invited and teams trial for selection An RHA selection committee selects the teams. Conduct at fixtures RHA has a Code of Conduct for all players, officials, spectators which everyone must adhere to. Failure to do so can result in  A warning from RHA Board  The matter referred to the judiciary committee

Extreme weather Wet weather The general policy that Redlands Hockey Association will adopt for wet days is: If there has been considerable rain in the proceeding days, an inspection of the fields will take place at 5:00pm on the Friday night by an RHA Board member. A decision may be made at that time or deferred until Saturday morning. If there has been additional rain overnight Friday, a RHA Board member will conduct a second inspection of the fields at 7:00am on Saturday and a decision regarding games will be made. If a decision is made to cancel a round it will be posted on the website no later than 7.30am. The notice will also be shared to the association Facebook and Twitter accounts. Please do not contact the RHA before this time. The association will also inform all Managers, Umpire Co-ordinator, Canteen Coordinator and Coffee Provider regarding the decision and ask the team managers to disseminate the information to coaches and players (incl parents). In the event of a round being cancelled points are shared equally by the teams. The main reason for games being cancelled during the day once competition has started will be if there is a threat of lightening or severe storm activity or if the fields are deemed unsafe for competitive play. Player safety is always our primary concern.

Lightning Use the 30/30 Lightning Rule. If the time between the lightning flash and the thunder sound is less than 30 SECONDS then play should be suspended, and not resumed until 30 MINUTES after the last thunder (30 seconds relates to 10 Kilometres away). Find safe shelter. Sturdy buildings are the safest place to be during lightning storms. Avoid sheds, picnic shelters, metal coaching boxes & goals. Staying in a car with windows closed also offers some protection.
