Congratulations to Amy Tong, State CIO & CA Department of Technology Director

SACRAMENTO - APAPA is proud to congratulate Amy Tong on her confirmation as State Chief Information Officer and Director of Department of Technology. Amy is the first Chinese American woman to hold this position and the highest ranking non-elected position in the state. Previously, Amy has been with the Office of Systems Integration. Prior to her joining OSI, Amy has 20 years of business, technology, and management experience in the public sector. In addition, Amy has served as the Deputy Director and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at CA Lottery, Chief Technology Officer at Board of Equalization; Chief of the Data Center at California Public Employees’ Retirement System; and was the acting CIO at the Water Resources Control Board. Amy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information System (MIS) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from California State University, Sacramento. In addition to her professional career, Amy has been serving in the community as a volunteer since 1997, motivated by her desire to broaden culture diversity, involvement and contribute as a member of the community, and to advance civic engagement by participating in the democratic process. In February 2015, Amy was appointed as the Planning Commissioner to the City of Elk Grove, becoming the first Asian American woman serving in such a role. Amy is also the immediate past National Vice-Board Chair, after serving 15 years at the executive leadership role of APAPA. Amy has served on the Culture Advisory Board of California State Fair and Exposition, and as a founding member of the Chinese New Year Cultural Association (CNYCA), she continues her active participation in various cultural and community events. She is currently National Senior Advisor and Voters Education Forum Chair for APAPA. APAPA’s mission is to empower Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Americans through education, leadership and active participation in civic and public affairs. Amy is a prime example of the type of leadership APAPA wants to grow and a great role model for future generations of API leaders. Please join us in congratulating Amy for her accomplishments, leadership, dedicated service and making a difference in the community. ###
