Buckinghamshire’s average house price rose by £2,402 (0.7 per cent) in December to reach a new of high £326,474. Over the last year, prices in Buckinghamshire have risen 9.6 per cent (£28,486), well ahead of the 6.4 per cent (£11,317) rise recorded the across country as a whole. Mean prices in London rose 12.4 per cent (£56,547). Since the pre-recession peak of November 2007, there have been wide variations in the recovery of house prices across England and Wales as shown in chart 2. While the national average has risen 4.2 per cent, prices have fallen in 99 of England’s 172 upper tier authorities. In Buckinghamshire prices are 19.8 per cent higher than in 2007. There were 845 house sales in Buckinghamshire in October, up 96 on the previous month but 83 down on the same month last year. Over the last year there have been 9,095 house sales in the county. While this is 62.2 per cent more than in year immediately following 2008’s recession, it is 7 per cent fewer than in the year ending October 2014 and almost a quarter (23.6 per cent) below the pre-recession peak (see chart 1). Buckinghamshire has seen the 24th smallest fall in sales since the recession among England’s 172 upper tier authorities, with house sales remain below 40 per cent of the pre-recession peak in 40 local authority areas.
