How to Take Care of Pets in Apartments

One cannot debate the therapeutic effect of pets in your house. Since apartment living has become the norm in cities, having a pet can become a tricky affair. Either the association doesn’t approve or you are skeptical about how you can provide for your pet in such a confined space. However, caring for a pet need not be such a herculean task, with just a little more effort. For starters, choose a pet which is conducive to apartment living. If you’re getting a dog, make sure it’s a smaller breed and not too aggressive. If you have a dog, especially a young one, exercise is very crucial. Since he’s not going to have much of an opportunity to run around the house, make sure you dedicate enough time everyday for his walks and runs. Pups

need to vent out plenty of energy, so look out for parks or grounds close by where he can run off-leash for some time every day. Safeguard your precious furniture, upholstery, shoes and just about anything else in your house by designating a space with loads of play things for your pet. From chew toys to ropes, to bones etc., constantly reinvent his play area so that he has enough to keep him entertained while at home. Food – now here is a department which comes with a “handle with care” sign when it comes to pets. Both dogs and cats can get really aggressive when it comes to disturbances during meal time, so make sure you place the food and

water bowls in quiet secluded areas of the house which does not have too many people walking around or any noisy things close by like the washing machine or the mixer grinder. It is very important that your pet, especially if it is a dog, stays quiet while you are away. A noisy dog can disturb the neighbors and make community living very difficult for you. Find ways to keep him entertained while you are away and also consider crate training. Grooming your pet, especially dogs,

is even more crucial in an apartment setup, as things that are not very noticeable in a larger space can be quite a hindrance in the limited confines of an apartment. Brush your dog regularly, daily preferably. Dog hair all over the apartment is not a very pleasant thing. Also, give the dog a bath regularly as dog smell might not be welcoming for everyone at home. Have windows, blinds, curtains? Keep them open so your pet can get a feel for what’s happening in the outside world and thus not get bored.
