Huntington Beach Union High School District hires three familiar faces as new Assistant Principals Huntington Beach, Calif. (June 17, 2016): The Huntington Beach Union High School District is pleased to announce the hiring of three Assistant Principals for the 2016-17 school year -- Joseph (Jo) Archival, Hannah Geddy, and Casey Harelson. Each hire comes highly qualified with a deep-rooted background in education in addition to a longstanding career as a top-notch educator in the HBUHSD. For the past 12 years, Jo Archival has devotedly served HBUHSD as not only a Physics and Earth Science teacher, but also a Lead STEM Practitioner, LCAP and Strategic Plan Committee member, former Science Department Coordinator, and much more. Before his time in HBUHSD, Archival taught two years of middle school in the San Bernardino City Unified School District and four years as a professor of Physics in the Philippines. He received his bachelors in Physics from Don Bosco Technical Institute and his Master of Education from California State University, Fullerton. After seeing the joy that student success brought his parents as high school teachers, Archival decided he wanted a career that brought him that same feeling. “My parents showed me that education is the greatest equalizer,” Archival shared. Away from the classroom, Archival, his wife Sheila, and their 16-year-old son Kristoffer enjoy traveling and camping with one another. In his free time, he also likes to run, hike, and stand up paddle board. (more)
Since 2008, Hannah Geddy has played an integral part in student’s success within HBUHSD. After initially teaching at Huntington Beach Adult School, Geddy then became a proud Charger of Edison High School where she has since served as an English Teacher and the Cheer/Song Advisor. Prior to her time within HBUHSD, she worked for both Long Beach Unified School District and Bellflower Unified School District where she taught a variety of English Language Arts courses, directed AVID students, and supported English Learners. Geddy received her bachelors in Business Management from the University of Redlands and two Masters – one in English Rhetoric and Composition from California State University, Long Beach and one in Educational Administration from National University. After being told she should become an educator by her very own first-grade teacher, Geddy worked hard to make that goal a reality. Geddy and her husband Paul have an 11-year-old son named Eli who is a competitive golfer and keeps the family busy with various trips to golf courses around the country. A graduate of Marina High School, Casey Harelson has taught English, Spanish, and served as an English Language Learners (ELL) Coordinator for five years in HBUHSD. He also worked three years managing tutoring centers for Kaplan Inc., one of the world’s largest and most diverse education providers. Harelson received his bachelors in Linguistics from University of California, Berkeley and his masters in Education from University of California, Irvine. After having had positive experiences with great schools, dedicated teachers, and his education experience overall, Harelson wanted to get involved in making sure that all students have access to impactful learning opportunities. Harelson’s wife, Valerie, teaches 8th grade Spanish at The Pegasus School in Huntington Beach. The two are expecting their first child in October. In his spare time, Harelson enjoys running half marathons, playing squash, and both real and fantasy football. For the 2016-17 school year, the new assistant principals have already outlined attentive goals for their new positions. Although each individual’s goals are differing, Archival, Geddy, and Harelson have all agreed on one thing: they plan on making heavy contributions in educating, preparing, and inspiring HBUHSD students to change the world.
