M.Sc. THESIS IN HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENT

Candidate: Sajana Marahatta

Title: Impacts of climate change on hydropower potential in the Koshi Basin, Nepal 1. BACKGROUND Nepal has a large potential for hydropower due to the runoff from the high Himalayas. The projected climate change might influence the potential for producing hydropower in the future, and the purpose of this study is to evaluate how climate change may influence runoff in Nepal and see how these changes will influence the hydropower potential. 2. MAIN QUESTIONS FOR THE THESIS 1. Do a literature review on climate change studies in Nepal and the Himalayas, with a focus on issues related to water resources. Of particular interest will be prediction of future glacier dynamics. 2. Find potential climate scenarios for the area of Nepal. Evaluate if they are useful for the thesis work and select one for the future work.
