Volume II, Issue III Hello Titans Family: For the first two years of existence, Willow Charter Academy has been labeled an “F” school. This is in part of the low test scores on the LEAP test that students take each spring. In order for the school to remain open, we can longer earn an “F” grade. Dr. Ronnie Harrison

This week we found out our grade improved from an “F” to a “D.” That means our school will be open for the 2018-2019 school year. Our focus now is to move from a “D” to at least a “C.” We have added a few programs and adjusted our curriculum to help our students grow academically. The new reading intervention program has already shown significant growth for many of our students. We are using a new English curriculum in grades 3 – 8 and a new math curriculum for grades K – 2.

“Protect Your Brand” Mentoring Program for 6th – 8th Grade Boys Boys in grades 6-8 have been participating in a male mentoring program. The “Protect Your Brand” mentoring program is designed to equip our boys with the necessary tools to make better choices and become productive men in society. The boys spend forty-five minutes with male teachers and special guests every Wednesday.

November Moral Focus Word of the Month GRATITUDE Our entire school focuses on a new virtue each month. This helps students learn the importance of making good choices and doing the right things in life. This month’s moral focus word of the month is GRATITUDE. A scholar that exhibits gratitude shows the quality of being thankful. They also show appreciation for what others have done for them and will return the kindness in some manner.
