Important Information About Transferring Prescriptions From Out-Of-State Physicians The State of Texas’s pharmacy rules require prescriptions for schedule II controlled substances to be issued by a physician who is licensed to prescribe in Texas. These include most medications to treat ADD or ADHD (such as Adderall or Vyvanse) and hydrocodone-containing products (such as Vicodin or Norco). Prescriptions that are not classified as schedule II controlled substances may be transferred to a Texas pharmacy. If your student would like to transfer their prescription to the Forty Acres Pharmacy [www.fortyacrespharmacy.com], conveniently located on campus in the Student Services Building, he or she can call the pharmacy at 512-471-1824 or stop by with the prescription bottle/package. If an off-campus pharmacy is preferred, your student should contact that pharmacy to ask how to transfer his or her prescription. If your student takes medication classified as a schedule II controlled substance, take action to get a new prescription BEFORE he or she needs a refill of the medication. The physicians at University Health Services (UHS) do not prescribe medications for ADHD, but they can be prescribed by the psychiatric staff at the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC). However, the following specific documentation is needed in order to receive a prescription from a CMHC psychiatrist. 1. complete documentation of a formal assessment with objective psychological testing for ADD/ADHD within the last three years and 2. past records from any doctors who have prescribed this medication for you in the past. If your student has not received a formal assessment within the last three years, he or she can receive an assessment by a professional in Austin. The assessment cannot be done by staff at University Health Services or the Counseling and Mental Health Center. Your student can contact the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office at 512-471-6259 for information about the professionals who conduct these evaluations.
