Dear Parents / Guardians Primary 1 Assessment 2018 Our school is committed to helping your child develop into a self-directed learner and confident citizen who upholds the school values of Integrity, Respect and Excellence. Assessment is an important part of his/her learning process as it provides useful information to him/her and the teachers on the progress made in various learning areas. At Primary 1 and 2, when your child has just started formal schooling, a key focus is on building his/her confidence and desire to learn. Quantitative feedback in the form of grades and marks, and qualitative feedback in the form of teacher comments help your child learn about his/her strengths, weaknesses and the steps to take to improve his/her learning. There is no mid-year or year-end assessment for Primary One Clementians. Instead, Informal Assessment (IA) in the form of bite-sized performance tasks and topical previews will take place regularly to provide timely feedback on their learning, so that steps could be taken to close learning gaps. Given that IA does not take place under examination conditions, there are no designated dates for IA. Clementians will be given the opportunity to re-take selected components of IA after the teachers have closed their learning gaps, in order to encourage them to achieve mastery of the required knowledge and skills. It is hoped that this would imbue in them a Growth Mindset, motivate them to take greater ownership of their learning and allow them to experience success. The schedule for IA is attached in the Annex. Do support your child by inculcating good study habits to learn continually and encouraging him / her to put in his / her best effort.
