WHAT IS LAKE MAC GLAM? This symposium aims to provide regional cultural, gallery, museum, and library professionals a forum to network and participate though contemporary presentations and workshops. We seek speakers and facilitate opportunities to address current issues and trends facing our regions cultural sector. With more than 200 employed library, gallery, archive, performing arts and museum workers within Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Central Coast and Gosford, Maitland, Cessnock and Port Stephens as well as other cultural services colleagues this symposium offers a unique and targeted professional development opportunity as well as improve our networks and sector profile.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Library, gallery, performing arts, archive and museum workers within the immediate region and other local government cultural development colleagues interested in learning what’s trending in the sector as well as improving networks.

REGISTRATION FEES $50 (plus GST) GLAM worker includes coffee at registration, morning, lunch and afternoon teas and showbag $40 (plus GST) Volunteer

SPEAKERS Alex Bowen Alex Bowen heads up the cultural and creative programs at the City of Sydney, encompassing the City’s network of nine libraries, Pine Street Creative Arts Centre, Customs House, cultural development, business development and sponsorship, and major events including Sydney New Year’s Eve, Art & About and Lunar New Year celebrations. Alex oversees teams that provide sponsorship to major festivals like Sydney Festival and the Biennale of Sydney, commission new temporary public art activations and provide practical support and funding for our creative communities. Alex has over twenty-five years’ experience in the arts and cultural sector: including in State and Federal funding bodies, regional galleries, contemporary art spaces, festivals, as an educator and practitioner. Alex’s deep passion is to bring creativity to the whole community: our residents, our visitors and our workers.

Dr Sue Gillett Dr Sue Gillett is a senior lecturer in Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University. She has authored two books – one on film-maker Jane Campion, the other a collection of poems – edited a poetry anthology, and has had an assortment of literary and media-related articles and book chapters published in Australia and internationally. Her most recent publications include the article ‘Real-World Creative Learning: Embedding Arts Curricula in Festivals and Exhibitions’ in NiTRO (2016)*, a memoir-essay in Mothers in Others (Pan MacMillan, 2015), a chapter on poetry, grief and healing in Poetry and the Trace (Puncher & Wattman, 2013). Donna Carstens

Dr Matt Finch Dr Matt Finch (matthewfinch.me) writes and makes fun things for people to do in public places: festivals, special events, workshops, and games: everything from a season of burlesque in New Zealand’s biggest city to live zombie battles in rural Australia. He writes the weekly newsletter tinyletter. com/marvellouselectrical and works as a consultant for institutions, publishers, and media productions. Matt is currently Creative in Residence at the State Library of Queensland.

Ben Conyers (Manager, Service Delivery and Design) State Library Victoria Ben Conyers has held several roles across the university, public, state and business library sectors, all with a strong customer focus. In his current role as the Manager Service Delivery & Design at the State Library Victoria he manages service delivery in a library with over 1.85 million visitors and more than 250,000 customer and information interactions with those visitors each year. Ben was the Project Manager on the State Library Victoria’s Future Service Model Project which in 2015 was awarded the best service design model at the Good Design Australia awards. Ben is now part of the project team working on the State Library redevelopment and redesigning services for the library of 2020.

Manager of Indigenous Programs, Australian National Maritime Museum Donna Carstens is from the Mununjali clan of the Yugambeh Nation from SE Queensland, with links to Stradbroke Island. Donna is an accomplished physical theatre/ circus performer working in the community arts, social justice and education sectors. She has worked extensively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout Australia and is currently employed as the Manager of Indigenous Programs at the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney.
