‘Round-Trip’ Information Technology: Industry Leaders Winning Through Collaboration By Walter Davis, Estimating Market Manager, Construction & Real Estate Division, Sage

We’ve heard a lot about how BIM can impact the flow of information in a construction project from ‘design to demolition.’ But how can contractors use this technology to better inform their estimating processes in future projects? What if there were a way to organize and track specific data points for every project performed and then use that information to provide benchmarking and trend analysis, along with conceptual cost estimates for a new project? I asked Nick Papadopoulos, CEO and founder of Eos Group, how his Cortex platform is transforming the way government and enterprise clients utilize their Sage Estimating data. He said, “It

all starts with a desire to harness and leverage an organization’s historical experience. If you believe it’s valuable, then you must find the means to capture and share the data, then empower the organization to make better decisions.” Eos Cortex is a project history solution that catalogs and categorizes historical estimates and actual cost projects. As Sage estimates reach a level of maturity (e.g., GMP phase), Eos Navigator can publish them into Eos Cortex, a big-data solution to facilitate benchmarking, conceptual estimating and trend analysis. Whether you have a web browser or tablet, the historical data is available for quick access to support business development pursuits,

benchmark a new proposal against similar historical projects, or study cost and production trends over time. As you can see, the integration between Sage Estimating and Eos Navigator and project history solutions provides a ‘round-trip’ approach to making good use of the massive amount of information produced during a project’s preconstruction process. Also, our collaborative integration work with best-in-class 2D and 3D solution providers like Autodesk, Assemble and eTakeoff adds speed and efficiency to the whole process. Leveraging information technology with a little help from our friends—it’s the Sage thing to do. ◆
