INSIDE BLUE CHIP ‐ TIPS & TRICKS Our first edition of Blue Chip Tips & Tricks was so well received that we've decided to make it a regular e‐mail to subscribers. We trust that you find these e‐mails a valuable resource to getting the most out of your software.
Did you know? 1. Patient Details Changing patient status from active to inactive will prevent inactive patients' names being displayed in a patient search.
2. Access Recently Used File List
HCN Blue Chip, May 2010
If you accidently close Blue Chip, the last 5 patients’ files can be accessed (and in certain cases the associated tasks) by clicking on the File menu on the Task Bar.
3. Reports Report groupings (in the Print Report window) change depending where you access the reporting option from ‐ either the printer icon on the patient file or from within Medicare Australia ‐ Practice Explorer etc.
4. Invoices You can defer your Invoices instead of cancelling them? They will still appear on the Day Sheet report (as being deferred) and can be completed later by opening them within the original account class they were created. A Deferred Invoice Report lists all invoices that have been deferred.
5. Medicare Claiming
HCN Blue Chip, May 2010
When using Patient Claims and the patient pays the invoice in full: It is recommended that practices leave the payment type as Cheque (that way reimbursements are paid directly to the patient) – regardless of whether the patient has lodged their banking details with Medicare or not. Medicare will override this (to Direct Debit) at their end if banking details have been lodged with them. Medicare recommends that patients should record electronic banking details directly with Medicare Australia and not with the practice.
6. Referral History Deselecting the Hide Inactive Referrals checkbox allows users the ability to view a patient’s complete referral history.
When cancelling appointments, make sure you edit the appointment and add a comment as reason for cancellation, then select the Cancel option. This captures a patient’s booking history, displays reasons for cancellations and provides the practice with information that allows them to make a rescheduling decision based on the appointment history (particularly useful for repeat offenders

who cancel at the last minute). A deleted appointment disappears without any trace and should only be used if the user has made an error.
A complete history of patient’s booking (past and future) including cancellations can easily be printed from within the Patient Details Screen. Select Bookings then click on the Print Option (bottom right of the screen). Moving appointments between days and doctors is easily achieved within the “Outlook Style Appointment Book. Just set the “View” to weekly and drag and drop your appointment cell as required.
8. Correspondence Practice staff can address correspondence to other practitioners that have no association with referrals (such as a Specialist, LMO etc) and have their names appeared automatically in a document? Administrator access is required for setup only. Once created, general user level is all that is needed to enter the information. Modifying Setup: Select Setup from Task Bar and go into Practice, Classes and use one of the Account Contacts fields to add type of contact (e.g. LMO, Specialist, etc) within the Account Group Listing, use the drop down menu to select Usual GPs (this will file their details under Doctors subdirectory). Take careful note of which Account Contact Line is being used. e.g. Line 1‐6.
