How to Choose the right Liquor Store

Surrounding yourself with good friends and fine beverages is a great way to kick back and relax. So if you're planning a celebration or a quiet night among friends, finding a good liquor store can make a big difference. The best liquor stores will provide advice, knowledge and opportunities to buy quality products.

WIDE VARIETY

Look for a store that matches your personal preferences. Some shops carry local beer selections from nearby microbreweries. Others stock wines and high-end imported rum or scotch. The best stores will have a mixture of popular products, along with some new, rare or exotic offerings. The liquor shop should have a variety of price points. From the most expensive to the lower-price selections, all could have an important place in a wellstocked liquor cabinet. Mixed drinks or baked recipes, for example, don't always have to include the very best brands because the flavor will be diluted with other ingredients. If you are planning to drink the liquor by itself, however, it is much better to look for a quality brand -- even if it is more expensive.

EXPERT ADVICE

If you entertain frequently, your liquor purchases may be significant. The bigger investment you make, the more important it is to get expert advice. The best liquor stores will guide you into finding the right product for a specific use or occasion. You should be able to describe the event, along with the flavors or tastes you prefer. Listen to their advice. Good, personalized service may be worth traveling a longer distance. In addition, if you use the same store frequently, they will get to know your preferences and needs. Your experiences will keep improving with each visit.

WHO CARES ABOUT YOU? If the store doesn’t have an item you are used to getting, ask an associate if they can order it for you. If they say no or never call you back, obviously this is not the store for you. Normally, they should call you within two weeks. Most stores will be happy to have a regular customer who reliably buys the same product. Each wine was somebody’s favorite wine. Each bottle size of vodka was on the shelf because that’s the size one customer likes to buy.

FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS SERVICE Unhappy or rude customer service is a sign of an underpaid and overworked staff. Often, the problem is micromanagement, or just plain bad management. The lack of adequate service or bad attitude is never a personal statement about you, but a store that treats its employees poorly will not likely stay in business for very

long. Move on and invest your time and money in another business.

fun is in discovering what works for you.

THE WHITE GLOVE TEST

OVERALL EXPERIENCE

Another topic related to storage. Check to see if the store is kept clean. A clean store means the management cares about how your product is handled. You may think that it’s the smaller, “Mom and Pop” stores that have old wines sitting on the shelves for way too long. But, in fact, many of the mega-stores have so much stock, it’s impossible for them to be selling all of their wines all the time. It’s very rare for spirits to go bad. But that’s not the case for wine, beer, or cider. All this seems a bit overwhelming. After all, it’s all booze, not brain surgery. These are just points to keep in mind as you search for your favorite wine and spirits shop. As I stated before, convenience and comfort may be the determining factors. We’re not looking for perfection. But part of the

Convenience is always a factor, but it isn't the only thing to consider. Ideally, the shop should be clean, organized and in a safe neighborhood. The best liquor stores take pride in having a tidy appearance, vast selection and sophisticated staff. When you find those things in a liquor store, you can enjoy the taste of sweet success. Finally, consider the overall shopping experience. You'll want to find a store that's convenient — typically either close to your home or near your route home from work — but that's just the start. A properly managed store will take pride in its appearance, selection and employees. Look for a business that stands out from the crowd. If you can find all those things in one store, your enjoyment and relaxation will be even sweeter.

RVing = great memories

i de Open Spaces, Mount Rushmore, Wild Buffalo Roaming, Ole Faithful, the Grand Canyon at Dawn these are just a few of the amazing sites one can see from a vacation in an RV or Recreational Vehicle. So how do you pick the one for you? Are there different kinds? Recreational Vehicles are broken down into classes and types. For the motorized (the ones you drive) there are three classes. The class A, looks like a school bus and can be a gas or diesel. They usually range from 25 to 45 feet long and generally have large compartment storage. Then there is the Class C, this has a van or truck front, and the profile looks like a “C”. They range in size from 21 to 31 feet and has smaller compartments underneath, most people feel this is very easy to drive. Last but not least is the B class. This is the smallest class and generally looks like a conversion van, with room for 2 and can be parked just about anywhere. The other type of recreational vehicle are the towable units

W

which include the fifth wheel, travel trailer and truck camper. The fifth wheel sits in the bed of your truck and makes towing a breeze. Generally, these units have a ton of storage and gives you a lot of height on the inside. The travel trailer is pulled behind your tow vehicle, one tends to see this unit a lot as it is the most affordable and has many floor plans. The truck camper is a camper that slides into the bed of your truck that does not have any wheels. This is an extremely versatile unit as it will go anywhere you go. Many outdoorsmen use this unit to hunt and fish. So what unit is best for you? It really is all about preference and budget. If you already have a tow vehicle, you already have half of the equation for one of the towables. Then you would just need to decide how many people you would need to sleep, when you would be using and where you would like to go. These questions are important because some units are four season, some are three season and some are just spring to fall. If you would like to go

surf fishing in November in the northeast, you would need a four season unit versus fishing in Florida year round. If you don’t have a tow vehicle or you like the convenience of having the facilities and kitchen within reach a motorized is the way to go. There are a lot of floorplans to accommodate 1 to 10 people. There are one and a half bathrooms and more TV’s then you can count. With this option you can tow a car or jeep behind most units or you can rent a car when you reach your destination. When you are ready to purchase make sure you go to a reputable dealer that offers has a full service facility. Ask about what kind of warranty comes with the unit, and if they offer an extended service contract. This is a home on wheels, so things can go wrong even with the best of the best. It is very important to have an extended warranty. Most dealers also offer financing, this is also important as financing an RV is a benefit to you because they are considered a second home and

the interest can be written off your taxes as a such. Again, make sure you deal with a reputable dealer, ask your friends that have RV’s who they dealt with and why, check their social media pages, blog sites and see what the community has to say about the dealer. Once you settle on a specific unit check the manufacturer’s blog sites to see what other people say about the product and see if they have tips for purchasing. RVing is for everyone! Families make the best memories sitting by the campfire, roasting marshmallows, telling stories by the fire with their friends, listening to their kids laughing in the background. Having smash can or corn hole competitions, riding on the golf carts, fishing, crabbing, hiking, swimming, walking, relaxing. Meeting new friends, staying connected with nature and seeing the many things this great country has to offer all from the comforts of your home on wheels.

How to Choose the right Caterer

An experienced caterer can be a life saver when planning a large or momentous event like a wedding, a milestone birthday bash or a Christmas party. It takes a lot of work to host a decent sized party. A great caterer will not only take the pressure off but help you create a memorable occasion. In addition to great food, a caterer can offer advice on how to make your event an unqualified success. The caterer can offer information about the appropriate type and quantity of food to serve your guests as well connect you to other resources, including professionals who can help turn your event into a magical occasion. In addition to enhancing the success of your party, choosing the right caterer means you will have time to enjoy your party. Here are some tips to consider when looking for a high quality caterer:

Event Information

Before speaking to a prospective caterer, note everything you know about your event. Details might include date, time, location, number of guests and budget. If you have a theme, be sure to let them know what you’re looking for. Also, tell the caterer if this is a formal affair such as a business party, or something more relaxed. You can also suggest certain types of foods. It might help to tell the caterer about the venue decor, so she can focus on what will match the surroundings.

Interview

Begin asking your social network for recommendations. Friends, family, and even colleagues may have used a caterer in the past. Check the phone book and the Internet for local caterers. Your local newspaper will likely have advertisements from local caterers. This is also a good resource to

find coupons and special deals. After you have compiled a list of possibilities, schedule a meeting and prepare your questions. In particular, ask about delivery, time frames and budget. The caterer might have ideas about your event. Listen with an open mind. Since these professionals are in the event business, they will likely draw from past experiences.

References It is always a good idea to ask for client references. You should receive a list of names and contact information. Don't be shy. Call these references to inquire about the company's work. Sometimes, a caterer has a book of food and dessert pictures. Look at their work. Be sure it pleases you.

Record The local health department will have a health rating for the caterer. A positive record demonstrates their commitment to safe food handling practices. It is also an excellent indicator of the caterer's overall quality.

Scheduling Be sure to communicate clearly about timelines and scheduling. Caterers who have packed schedules are a risky proposition. Use a company that can spend time and effort on your event.

Sample The caterer should allow you to sample the food. In fact, it is common practice for caterers to bring selections from their menu to an initial interview. If they don't offer you samples, request them prior to paying deposits or advancing funds. It is only fair that you know what you are buying. You can also ask for a list of their events that you might be able to attend before you make your decision. This will give you a great opportunity

SUBMITTED PHOTOS

to see how they interact with the party goers as well as see the food presentation and taste the food. Some caterers specialize in elaborately themed parties. These companies will offer suggestions on food that will complement your celebration. Other caterers have expertise in crafting menus that are customized to your guest list.

Caterers who can help you with the entire planning process of your meal ranging from hors d'ouevres to desserts are well worth the money. They can guide you through the whole process with professionalism, confidence and even a sense of humor. Because you have thoughtfully chosen your caterer, your special occasion will be a rousing success.

urgent care

How to Choose an Urgent Care Center W

hen your physician is unavailable or you need rapid medical attention, your local urgent care center can assist you. In some cases, urgent care centers work better than the emergency room at your local hospital. Health problems happen at inconvenient times. You may not have time to ask about various facilities in your area. Now is the time to find the best urgent care center that will help you in your hour of need. Here are some factors to consider when selecting an urgent care center. You will need a center located near your home. Time is of the essence. You will also need to understand the level of care they provide, hours of operation and insurance plans they accept. Find out about your town's urgent care centers before you need medical assistance. Check the Yellow Pages, your local newspaper or the Internet. People who live in cities probably have several choices within a short distance. But if you live in a rural area, there might be only one option. Look closely at what the center can offer you. Sometimes, rural residents can get better care at an emergency room. Anyone with children should select an urgent care facility with a doctor who is qualified to treat children. He or she must also be comfortable around them. An urgent care center is an excellent backup for the times you can't see your general practitioner. The best facilities are open 24-hours a day, seven days a week. At the very least, they have extended hours. Most centers have the equipment to contend with colds, flu, strep throat or an ear infection. They could also help you regain control of your blood pressure. Urgent care providers are typically good at treating simple fractures and stitching wounds. When they don't have the resources to treat an urgent medical issue, the center will transport a patient to an

emergency facility in an ambulance. The urgent care staff will work to stabilize a patient while they wait for transport. Handling payment arrangements is your responsibility. You must know if your insurance covers the doctors in the facility. If you don’t have insurance, flexible payment plans can usually be arranged. Most facilities also accept credit cards, checks and cash as payment. Patients at urgent care clinics usually have good experiences. They appreciate the short wait times. It is especially helpful when you are sick and can't see your regular physician. You don't want to sit in a waiting room all day, nor do you want to suffer for days while waiting for an appointment. At an urgent care facility you can see a doctor, get a prescription and go home to recuperate quickly.

In addition to their regular services, many centers are now offering preventive services such as immunizations. Others can assist you in managing chronic problems. Diabetics can often find quick, quality care

at an urgent care center. While these facilities can't solve all of your medical problems, they are an excellent option when you can't see your regular physician.

HOW TO 2018

pediatrician

Choosing the best pediatrician for your child

A medical professional could have a huge impact on how your child views health-related matters for the rest of his life. Many children are scared of going to the doctor, so it's important to find someone your child will like and who will make your child feel comfortable. That's why choosing a good pediatrician for your child is very important. A friendly physician will help your child develop a positive attitude toward health and wellness. Keep these factors in mind to help make your search more efficient and successful.

Recommendations

Ask family, friends and acquaintances for recommendations. Parents will be happy to share about their experiences at the pediatrician's office. You can also check with your family doctor or OB/GYN who delivered your baby. They will have informed

recommendations to help you select the best doctor. Don't just collect one or two names. Ideally, you should have a list of at least three professionals. It will help you compare and made the right selection.

Insurance Next, look at your insurance policy. Find out if any of the people on the list are part of your network plan. Remember that children visit the doctor more frequently than adults because they catch a lot of viruses while building up their immune systems. Doctors not covered by your insurance should be crossed off your list. You might also reconsider your insurance policy.

Narrowing the List It is time to arrange a meeting with each physician so you can find out who will work best with your child. Look at their office locations. They

should be in a convenient location, not far from your home. You will probably visit this doctor quite often, so convenience is a big factor. When you meet with the doctor, focus on his or her philosophy. Some physicians prefer to run lots of tests. Others have a more relaxed and homespun approach. Parents who follow a wellness philosophy might have to look harder to find a doctor who is open-minded about alternative medicine. If you are interested in alternative vaccine schedules, be sure to find out if your doctor is receptive to this idea.

The Visit Bring your child along for this meeting. It will help you gauge their interaction. The doctor should make your child feel at ease. He should be patient, tolerant and friendly. You must feel comfortable with this

medical professional as well. He should take the time to answer your questions thoughtfully. Inquire about their emergency policy. Does the office accept walk-ins? If your child gets sick in the middle of the night, can you call the pediatrician or nurse? Find out about office hours and when you need to visit the hospital instead. Is the office decorated with children in mind? Is it a safe, inviting atmosphere? Does the practice use modern equipment? Are exam rooms clean? Many pediatricians now offer separate waiting rooms for children who are not sick. These "well child" waiting areas help stop the spread of viruses. If your child is there for a checkup, it is a bad idea to have him sit next to another child who has the flu. With this strategy, you should have an easier time selecting a pediatrician. Choosing well now will save you time and trouble in the future.

urologist

How to choose a urologist idney stones are painful, unpredictable, lifestyle altering and potentially deadly. A urologist can be a real lifesaver if you or a loved one suffers from kidney stones. These experts play a vital role in medical care. Urologists can help you with a wide range of issues commonly found in the male and female urinary tract system and male reproductive organs. Illnesses may range from bladder cancer, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate issues and incontinence. When looking for a urologist, here are some things to keep in mind:

K

Ask around Check with other physicians, including your primary doctor. They will likely have recommendations for solid, quality care. Also, inquire with close friends or family members whom they have used. People don't often like to talk about medical problems involving this area of the body. However, these issues are actually prevalent, so it's likely you know people who have had similar issues and have seen urologists. They should be glad to give you a reference. Searching online will also help. Reviews from other patients can help guide your decisions. Though you should be aware that anonymous reviews can be faked and rarely tell an entire story.

Check credentials Your state's medical board will have names of urologists in your area. They will be able to confirm a professional's credential along with his history. It is important to know if the urologist has faced previous sanctions. Another resource is the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). This organization can tell you if the

urologist is board certified. They have a website (http://CertificationMatters.org) for patients to search for local specialists.

Other things to consider How quickly can the urologist get you in for your appointment? Experience their practice for yourself. Take note of how the office staff treats you. Are they polite? Do they contact you promptly and make you feel comfortable? The location of the office is another factor. Will you be continuing treatment? If you need to go back for follow-ups, you will want an office that is convenient. Check the office hours to make sure they will fit with your schedule.

Your potential urologist should be able to answer all of your questions. Does he or she have a good bedside manner?

Research will give you peace of mind. Finding the right urologist will give you freedom of pain.

HOW TO 2018

eye doctor

Selecting the best eye doctor

Regular maintenance is vital in keeping things running smoothly and looking their best and your vision and eye health is no different. An annual eye exam is the best way for you and your optometrist to get a clear picture of your vision health, and find ways to improve it — helping you to see better, and manage your overall wellness for the future. In fact, eye exams are one of the most crucial things you can do to ensure your health and happiness. Quite often, eye-related illnesses are asymptomatic or are just one sign of larger health problems, so it is important to visit your eye doctor every year to prevent and treat any issues in their early stages. And just like picking your family doctor or dentist, it is important to choose an optometrist that offers comprehensive eye care services that meet your unique vision, health and financial needs.

Find the right doctor

Find a doctor that makes your eye care their top priority, so you can focus on the things you love. Optometrists usually receive a bachelor’s degree before their four-year, specialized training program in diagnosing and treating vision and eye health-related problems. Not only can they help you see better using the latest technology in glasses and contacts, but they can also diagnose, treat, and/or manage a variety of eye disorders, including “pink eye” and allergies, or more complex problems like cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal disease. In some cases, optometrists even work directly with your other doctors to monitor and treat diseases like diabetes and hypertension. An optometrist’s job goes beyond correcting vision – they can provide valuable information about your overall health.

Understand your insurance coverage

You should never have to choose between exceptional eye care services

and the eyewear styles and brands you know and love. Call your local optometrist to find out what your insurance covers and if there are other ways manage out-of-pocket costs. Always select vision care companies that welcome all vision insurance plans and look for a practice that is committed to explaining and helping you understand and maximize your insurance benefits.

Satisfy your individual needs Whether you wear glasses now or not, look for an optometrist that offers the personal touch and unique experience you should expect from your vision provider. And since almost everyone will need some form of corrective lenses over time, having a basic understanding of common vision problems can help make you more comfortable during your exam. Refractive problems (easily corrected with glasses or contacts) are generally divided into two categories: nearsightedness (being able to see clearly only when things are close up or nearby), or farsightedness (being able to see things far away, while small nearby objects, such as printed words, appear blurred). People with nearsightedness normally need eyeglasses throughout their life, while farsighted people may only need glasses periodically if ever. After most people reach 40 or older, their eyes go through a natural process that causes them to gradually lose the ability to change focus for reading and near work -- a condition called presbyopia. Beyond refractive problems, there are a number of other relatively common eye conditions and diseases that may require specific treatment or ongoing care. Routine examination, is very important since some diseases and disorders can permanently effect your vision, and early detection and treatment can be instrumental in preserving both your vision and overall health.

In children, poor vision health is often linked to headaches, clumsiness and/or poor academic performance; therefore, parents should adhere to an ‘every kid, every year’ mantra for their children’s eye exams. Studies show that one in four children have some sort of visual need or dysfunction, so parents should talk to the child's optometrist if they suspect a vision problem. If caught early enough, children's eye conditions are very treatable. Eye doctors often specialize in certain disease or treatment areas. If you have been diagnosed with glaucoma, for instance, you can find a doctor who has experience specifically treating that disease. Be sure to ask eye doctors about their experiences treating diseases and conditions specific to your individual needs.

Stay stylish with corrective lens options You shouldn’t have to choose between optimal vision and looking great with your own unique style. Look for an optometrist and vision care company that provides patients with a wide selection of eyewear —

from designer frames, to prescription contact lenses, to stylish sunglasses — at prices for every budget. If you already know what you’re looking for— such as glasses from a particular designer — look for an eye doctor who has access to that brand. You can check their stock of eyeglass frames to make sure they carry the style you desire. When purchasing glasses, it is essential to have a wide range of products to view and try on at varying price points. Lenses and frames can vary in terms of comfort, appearance, price and quality. The broader the selection, the more likely you will find that perfect pair of glasses. Having a wide selection of frames and lenses also addresses the need for multiple pairs of glasses for different usage occasions, like prescription sunglasses, computer and reading glasses. With increased usage of digital devices, select eye care providers that offer lenses with an anti-reflective coating and have some blue light blocking capabilities. You will always be well served if you make sure the provider you choose offers the options you need before you schedule your appointment.

Legal safeguards for your golden years S

enior citizens with adequate health coverage and sound finances are more likely to live comfortably in their golden years. But seniors generally confront a wide variety of potential legal issues, including nursing care, wealth management, estate planning and an assortment of probate issues. Because of their advanced age, seniors are vulnerable to scam artists and other predators who take advantage of them. Having competent legal counsel can head off these problems. As a senior citizen, it is to have the right legal counsel to guide you through some complicated matters. It is too important to risk doing it on your own. Proper planning puts the power in the hands of seniors. It is a fantastic way to preserve wealth in and get lasting benefits for your families.

MEDICARE BENEFITS

Created in the mid-1960s, Medicare remains one of the several federal programs that exist to benefit seniors. It ensures that Americans over the age of 65 will have health coverage. People who are younger than 65 may also receive benefits under certain conditions. Hospitalization, prescription drugs, visits to the doctor and home nursing assistance expenses are covered by this program. If you want to learn more about Medicare benefits, consult an elder law attorney. Qualified lawyers with experience in this area can provide information about program eligibility. They can also tell seniors how to maximize their benefits.

MEDICAID BENEFITS

While many people confuse Medicaid and Medicare, the two programs are different. Medicaid offers medical coverage for low-income citizens regardless of age. It will help pay expenses of prescription drugs, home health care, doctor visits and more. Lawyers who specialize in Medicaid

guide clients through the application process. These attorneys will instruct clients about getting the maximum level of assistance possible.

DISABILITY LEGAL ASSISTANCE Lawyers who specialize in disability issues inform clients about healthcare resources, financial assistance and even educational benefits. Consulting with these professionals ensures that anyone suffering from a disability has access to available resources to help them fulfill their potential.

VETERANS' AID Eligible veterans have many benefits available for their use. Seniors who may be entitled to receive these benefits should always consult with

an attorney to make sure they receive everything they are due. Attorneys specializing in veterans' affairs have a firm understanding of the different benefits and the procedures for claiming them. Spouses of veterans may also be eligible for certain benefits. An experienced lawyer can help them navigate the system.

ASSET MANAGEMENT AND PROTECTION Wealth management strategy is one of the most critical aspects of estate planning. No senior should ignore it. Having a deliberate, tactical strategy is a strategic way to safeguard wealth for future generations. Failing to draft a thorough estate plan can be expensive. It can be dev-

astating to decedents who may not have the financial resources to work through legalities. Estate planning lawyers will craft documents that detail their client's true intent regarding asset distribution. Wills and trusts are two common ways of smoothly transitioning assets from one family member to another. Attorneys can also craft strategies to minimize the estate tax liabilities that heirs may face. Skilled estate planning lawyers will offer creative solutions for protecting assets from the negative effects of the probate process. Getting proper and professional elder care and legal advice not only protects you and your loved ones; it also provides peace of mind.

garden center

How to Choose a Garden Center

n the old days, gardeners received a seed catalog every January. The catalogs helped them plan their spring gardens. It was great way to pass time waiting for the snow to melt. But the seed catalog has gone the way of the milk man. Now there's a one-stop shop for buying seeds: it's called the Internet. Gardeners around the world use the websites to plan their spring gardens every winter. They have a wide range of produce to consider. But the Internet has its limitations. For one thing, it's hard to touch things over the Internet. For another, sometimes people need expert advice. That's why gardeners visit garden centers. With thousands of locations over the country, how do you select the right garden center?

I

Do the Research

Research will help you determine which garden center is best for you. Staff advice should be easy to understand and apply. Remember, they are not only retailers but also experts in their field. Expertise can also be defined by media presence. The specialists at the garden center you are considering should be on the short list that the media uses. Your friends and neighbors may have referrals. Does someone in your social network love gardening? If so, then ask who they use. While some garden centers stock a wide variety of brands and products, most have a few products they specialize in. A versatile garden center will stock not only flowers and shrubs, but also various types of stone, mulch, rocks, wallstone and flagstone. They should also carry chemicals to treat for insects and fungus aa well as other gardening products.

Visit the Garden Centers Once you have researched garden centers, visit two or three locations before making a final decision. Talk to a sales person. Think of a problem you experienced in the past and ask them for a solution. The sales people should be knowledgeable about remedies. Note his or her demeanor and attitude. Find out how long they have been in business and more about the owner. Good centers are usually in the same place, operated by the same people for a very long time. Take a look at the plants. Do they look healthy? Are they well-maintained? Is there a decent variety? Typically, plants grown in green houses are better quality. After all,

they are produced to be grown in your area. Plants grown locally usually have fewer diseases. A plant may not appear diseased until you take it home. Inquire about how the plants are produced. "Open pollinated" designates a seed or plant will reproduce itself purely if a seed is properly saved from the fruit of the plant. An organic seed or plant has been produced without artificial or chemical pesticides. Genetically modified plants are created by laboratory technology that manipulates the plant's genes. For example, instead of mixing two different kinds of corn to create one that is more resistant to diseases, they may combine genes from corn and a totally unrelated tomato plant.

These modifications do not happen naturally in the breeding process. Many people may be cautious about using genetically altered seeds and plants, but there are advantages to them. On commercial farms, this type of plant has plenty of assets over organic plants. In a backyard garden, however, genetically modified plants are usually not necessary. When shopping at a garden center, understand the types of plants they offer. There should be a labeling system in place. If not, ask the staff for more information. Commercial crops are more likely to have genetic modification. Once you’ve done your research and know what you want, head on over to your local garden center and get started improving your garden.

golf course

How to Choose the Best Golf Course

Golf is one of America's most popular pastimes. Men, women and even children enjoy spending time on a golf course. The quiet, beautiful surroundings are a great way to unwind or to spend a weekend day. The richness of the game is enhanced when it is played on the best of courses. If you are looking for a great golf course, you have many options. With enough research, you can find a location that will stretch your skills without breaking your budget.

THE COURSE

The course itself is the top factor for any serious golfer. The ideal course should be difficult enough to challenge you. bakery

How to Choose an Awesome Bakery

Here's a rule to live by if you're looking for a great bakery: If it smells good, chances are that it will taste even better. Looking to plan a special event? Trying to stock up for a holiday like, say, Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas? Skip those store bought goodies and start looking for a good bakery. A good bakery gives you the option of purchasing a wide variety of fresher, better-tasting options, and products that typically has lower amounts of preservatives, which is a much healthier choice. The best bakeries share a few common traits.

High-Quality Ingredients

Top bakeries use high-quality products from around the globe. Wouldn't you like to taste real Belgian chocolate? How about a cake topped with organic chocolate drizzle? Bakeries have fabulous taste when it comes to choosing ingredients.

Atmosphere

Great bakeries employ excellent staff who love what they do. As soon as you enter, they should greet you promptly. The ambience should be upbeat. After all, baking is fun! Many bakeries will have daily samples so you can get a taste before committing. Free nibbles make visiting bakeries a treat!

Consistency

Worthwhile bakeries offer consistency, regardless of who is doing the cooking (or baking). The food is consistently delicious. They should take great pride in their products. The process of creating cakes with top-notch ingredients should be the same day-after-day.

Specialties

Sometimes, bakeries serve specialty products that only they can offer. For example, one neighborhood bakery

might have cake pops or organic whole-wheat bread. Many times, the owner will use a family recipe that is unique. Whatever you desire, from dinner rolls to wedding cakes, the right bakery will be able to meet your needs.

Budget Awesome bakeries can fit a wide range of budgets. The best products may cost more since ingredients are expensive, and experienced staff are difficult to find. However, most bakeries try to fit all spending levels. Whether you are purchasing food for lunch or a special occasion, the best bakeries will deliver consistent results. Many bakeries offer catering services. Your friends and family will likely have recommendations you can try. Also, visiting culinary websites will help you find the latest reviews. These sites will also have stories about market trends. As always, check customer reviews of bakeries. You will likely find an amazing bakery close to home. Check local newspapers for special deals at local bakeries.

How to Choose a Furniture and Home Décor Store

Furniture gives your house a personality and pizzaz. It communicates a message about who you are. Given the array of choices available these days, there has never been a better time to buy furniture and home decor. No matter the size of your budget, choosing new seating, tables and accessories can make a big difference in your daily life. What is your particular and unique style? Here are some things to consider when shopping around for furniture and accessories.Choose a store that has a larger selection of different types and styles of furniture and accessories. Look for great customer service, a helpful and friendly staff and a store that stands behind their product. When purchasing and decorating mix antiques, vintage and new items together which makes for a warm and welcoming home. Consider style and size of furniture, color and price when shopping. How and where it will be used in your home. Don’t be afraid to mix different styles, patterns, color and scale when shopping. Being cohesive will bring your entire room together. Home décor is like the icing on the cake. They complete your entire look. Think outside the box-don’t be afraid to try new and unusual items. Be aware of height and placement of your furniture. Hang mirrors and pictures at eye level. Don’t forget lighting-its very important-try small lights in curio cabinets or bookcaseshang chandeliers 36” above your dining table for the right effect. Shop for pieces you can angle and float when looking for your furniture and home décor. Think outside the norm in your furniture placement-you’ll be surprised at the results. Furniture and Home Décor shopping can be a fun experience that will beautify your home.

SERVICE, DELIVERY

Every store has a different customer service policy. Choose a store that is well known for being loyal to its cus-

tomers. Inquire about return policies. Some furniture stores will allow you to exchange an item within a certain time limit if it doesn't meet your expectations. Learn what fees are involved if you have to return an item -- if that is allowed at all. As well, ask about the store's delivery policy, including how much it costs, how far they'll deliver and how quickly your furniture will arrive. If you are comparison shopping, factor the delivery cost when considering different stores. A low-priced piece of furniture will not save you money if it comes with an expensive delivery fee. It may be worth it to pay a little more for the couch if free or reduced cost delivery is available. The bottom line is that there are only two things that matter: the quality of the furniture you are purchasing, and the level of service you receive. Once you discover them both, furniture shopping can be a fun experience

that that will beautify your home for many years. And you can be happy and comfortable with the furniture for generations to come.

private school

How to Choose a Private School

rivate schools can be a great option for families willing to make the investment. Despite the perception, private schools vary in quality and scope. Here are some things to consider when choosing a private school in your area.

P

The Values

One of the reasons to send your children to a private school is to reinforce a set of values — both from the educators and faculty members who teach them and from the other students your child will be growing up with. Shared values can be a powerful thing. That means the first step is finding a private school that values the same things you do. You’ll want to know whether the school is associated with a certain religion or denomination, of course. Some private schools include religious classes and worship services as part of the curriculum; others are less formal about their religious affiliation, focusing on providing a very high-quality secular education and less on a specific church or belief. Some private schools aren’t affiliated with a religion at all. Keep in mind that values cannot be judged by written statements alone. Look at the way the school’s employees and students live their lives — including the school’s reputation in the community — to make your decision.

The Staff

Private schools can vary widely in the staff they employ. Some have credential requirements that go above and beyond what public schools require; others have looser requirements for education and training. If it’s important to you, you should ask about the teaching staff ’s credentials. Know where they went to college and what degrees they hold, along with whether they have any certificates and ongoing training on the

courses they teach. Again, the school’s reputation will tell you a lot — perhaps even more than paper credentials ever will — so ask around to see what people in your community think of the school’s teachers and administrators.

The Students Before you pick a private school, you should plan on making at least one in-person visit for a day. Sit in on a few classes and watch how the students behave and how the school’s staff deals with any discipline problems. Parents of current or former students should be able to give you the inside scoop about any concerns that exist among the student population, so ask around. No school has perfect students, obviously, but some do a better job dealing with problems than others. Whether the school uses a strict disciplinarian approach or a more laid-back style, you should be confident that your child will be in a safe, comfortable learning environment at all times. Watching how the students interact during and after school can give you some insights about it.

The Opportunities If you’re thinking about sending your child to a private school, chances are it’s ultimately to give them more opportunities in life. The specific school you pick can have big implications on which opportunities will open up to your child later in life, from college entrance to extracurricular activities such as music and sports. Ask if the school has any data about the percentage of its students that are accepted into college. Some private schools have a long track record of preparing students for prestigious universities later in life. You should also pay close attention to both the extracurricular activities that are available now and the ones

SUBMITTED PHOTOS

that will be available in the future. Your third-grade child may not think much about athletics right now, for example, but a soccer, football or basketball team could become very important to them as they get older. A private school that offers a lot of wellrun extracurricular activities will

open up more options for your child in the middle-school and high-school years. By looking closely at the values, staff, students and opportunities that are offered, the choice for your child’s education should become clear.

dentist

Methods for choosing the right dentist F

inding the right dentist can save you time and money-even for the most routine dental needs. Choosing the right dentist is essential to helping you maintain your health and appearance. A good relationship between the dentist and patient is imperative. It is important that you find a dentist who makes you feel comfortable; someone who will help you improve your dental health in a hygienic environment. Finding a dentist near your home or workplace will help you make your appointments on time. When searching for a dentist, make sure the office hours work for your schedule. So how should you start your search? First, ask your social network for recommendations. Friends, family and colleagues can be a great resource. Searching on the Internet for dental offices in your area will also help. Professionals often have their own websites, which include the backgrounds of those working there. The website may also tell you about how they handle procedures and appointments, as well as specialized services they offer. Your local newspaper will likely have advertisements from local dentists. Once you have gathered a list, begin calling each prospective dentist. Check to make sure the dentist earned the necessary degree from a reputable school and is current on all licensing and continuing educational requirements. Ideally, he will be familiar with the latest dental technologies and trends. Ask if the dental office provides emergency services. Lead time for appointments is another consideration. Some offices might be able to see you right away, while others may have a three-week wait time. Ask if your prospective dentist accepts your dental insurance. If you don’t have dental insurance, inquire

about other payment options. The office should give you an estimate before performing any work. When someone meets all of your requirements, visit the office. The staff should be professional and friendly. Every dentist should be willing to answer all of your questions. Some people are afraid of dentists or of pain. If you have any concerns,

communicate with the staff and dentist. Many professionals are willing to go above and beyond to help you work through these issues. A medical and dental health history should be taken by the dentist or staff. They should tell you about future treatment and prevention options. A quality dentist will help you feel comfortable during your visit. Routine dental visits can help detect

dental health problems early on and treatment may be simpler and more affordable. The best dentists offer friendly, happy dental experiences. Teeth are extremely important to your overall health. They can also help or hinder your appearance. Finding a good dentist is like finding a friend who consistently brings out your best smile.

jeweler

How to Choose the Right Jeweler

Jewelry serves two functions: one, it is a great fashion accessory; two, it is also an investment. In many cases, it can be a huge investment, particularly when buying an engagement ring, wedding band or a nice fashion accessory like a necklace, cuff links or wristwatch. Choosing the right jeweler is important when you choose to splurge on one of these items. Why settle for just anyone? Qualified jewelers are everywhere -- even in the smallest towns. How do you pick the best jeweler in your area? Finding someone with excellent skills is the first thing to consider. Quality jewelers offer reasonable pricing and fantastic customer service. Do not make the mistake of basing your decision on cost alone. Jewelry professionals are skilled artisans who create beautiful pieces with their own hands. They repair, clean and adjust items with ease. They may also offer other products from off-site manufacturers. In general, they are an excellent resource. Jewelers and watch repair technicians have undergone extensive training and should have certifications to prove it. They also attend periodic classes to keep current on regulations within the industry. Many jewelers travel to professional shows featuring the latest trends. They maintain their knowledge and understanding of the precious metal and gemstone markets. Technical expertise isn't the only aspect to consider. Customers who receive superior service are likely to return for future purchases. You'll want to work with someone who sees more than dollar signs behind each customer. Guarantees are essential. It is a fundamental factor in establishing a long-term relationship with the public and a track record of satisfied cus-

SUBMITTED PHOTO

tomers. Top professionals offer free repair and unlimited service for the life of the jewelry. People often regard their jewelry as a kind of financial or sentimental investment for family members. A professional understands the emotional bonds symbolized by a piece of jewelry, and treats it accordingly. Many jewelers are sensitive to the needs of each customer. A discount store may offer an unbelievable price on a piece of jewelry. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Inexpensive prices are often an indicator of lower quality gemstones

and metal components with lower purity. When the item breaks, it might be impossible to take it back for a repair or replacement because the seller has moved on. Some dealers focus solely on profit. Doing business with a jeweler you know and trust will make a big difference when it is time to make a significant investment in a ring, necklace or watch. He or she will make every effort to get you the best possible price without sacrificing quality. If you have been doing business with the same shop for a long time, you should expect a high level of service. The item should be guaranteed

every time. Anyone can sell jewelry. Malls across America are filled with jewelry stores. But a dedicated professional jeweler doesn't just sell precious metals or gemstones. He or she brings a keen eye for the beautiful and stunning quality of each piece. It is true that price is important, but it shouldn't be your top consideration. You will get better value for your money when you do business with a jeweler you can trust -- now and 20 years from today. High-quality workmanship starts with the jewelry and ends with your satisfaction.

pawn shop

How to Choose a Pawn Shop

Here's a little known fact about pawn shops: they are more than just places to sell your things when money is tight. They are also great for finding excellent deals. Pawn shops provide fast cash for people with emergency financial needs and great place to sell your old stuff for cash, while offering quality merchandise at a great price. For bargain hunters with eclectic tastes, pawn shops are great alternatives to classified ads and garage sales. You will find electronics, jewelry and sometimes even firearms at below retail rates. Quality pawn shops have embraced the internet allowing the public to shop their inventory 24/7, make payments and even get a pawn loan started. Here are some factors to consider when looking for a pawn shop.

FAIR DEALS

If you looking to sell or pawn an item -- which means using a possession as collateral on a loan -- then a pawn shop's reputation will be important. How long have they been in business? Will they take the time to explain how the “used value” of an item value can be determined? Is the store clean? Are the employees friendly? The best pawn shops have a reputation for offering fair deals to their customers. If you own something of value, like a diamond ring or photography equipment, you can leave it at a pawn shop and borrow a portion of its value. When you pay the loan back on time, you get the merchandise back. If you don't pay the loan in a timely manner, the pawn shop keeps your property and sells it for a profit. Pawning is one of the simplest and oldest ways of borrowing money. It can be a good option if you need cash quickly. It is vital that you find a pawn shop that will offer you a fair price for

what you own, whether you are selling it outright or pawning it.

GOOD SELECTION Shoppers can also find amazing deals at their local pawn shops, provided they know what to look for. A large showroom can display 1,000’s of items for sale and similar looking items can be quite different, be sure to check model numbers, production years, accessories, etc. Some pawn shops tend to favor one type of inventory over another. While one store might have a variety of musical instruments, another might sell jewelry and family heirlooms. It takes some browsing to figure out which shops sell the products you are seeking. The best thing about pawn shops is that their merchandise is constantly changing. Each time they receive more inventory, or a pawned item goes on the sale's floor for the first time, you can discover new and exciting things to buy. That's why smart pawn store shoppers make repeat visits to the same stores. You never know what treasures have suddenly become available.

SUBMITTED PHOTO

QUALITY First time visitors to pawn shops are often surprised by the quality of merchandise they find. Late-model electronics, powerful computers, name-brand items and high-end jewelry are just some of the things that you can find in pawn shops throughout the country. Look for a store with a good mix of quality merchandise and affordable prices. Don't be afraid of negotiating with the salespeople. Most pawn store owners are used to some level of haggling, and it never hurts to ask for a better deal.

CONVENIENCE Finally, look for a pawn shop that is

SUBMITTED PHOTO

convenient for you to visit. It should be in a neighborhood close to your home or office, in a safe and easy location. There is no need for you to feel nervous to visit the store. Are the employees friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer your questions? Does the pawn shop embrace technology making their in-

ventory available online, can you make layaway or other payments online? When you find a local pawn shop with the right mix of merchandise in an ideal location, chances are you'll end up spending more of your time and budget there. It is a smart way to shop locally.

How to Choose an HVAC Company

qualified professional can help prolong the life of your HVAC system. HVAC professionals prevent equipment failure by routinely servicing and maintaining your system. The breakdown of your heating or air conditioning system can be a huge nightmare - particularly during times of extreme temperature. But even in moderate weather, the HVAC system in your home is important to your comfort and safety. Most people cannot tolerate extreme temperatures. The elderly and people with chronic health problems need to have the temperature stabilized in their homes. The best HVAC contractors are helpful and reliable, but a poor contractor can cost you extra money and heartache. Ask people in your social network for recommendations. Good word of mouth will go a long way toward helping you find the best professionals in your area. After creating a list of candidates, call the Better Business Bureau, your state's board of contractors or the builders' association to check on their reputations. Your town's building inspection office may also have information for you. Avoid companies who have many complaints on their record. Upon narrowing the list, call the remaining ones and ask about pricing, guarantees and warranties. Also inquire about how long it would take to complete a job and the manufacturers' brands they use. If you are purchasing new equipment, find out if you need a separate service contractor or if routine maintenance and repairs are included in the price of installation. Does the company provide around-theclock emergency service? High quality HVAC companies are fully licensed, bonded and insured. If a worker is injured or causes damage to your property, that insurance should cover it. Otherwise, you could be liable for the damages.

A

Your insurance premiums would likely increase as a result. Reputable HVAC companies will usually belong to recognized professional and trade organizations. Some well-known organizations include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Membership in one of these organizations is not automatic. Applicants are required to have certain certifications, meet professional standards and meet or exceed other requirements before they are admitted. Before any work begins, verify that all the required building permits are in place. Most companies will file permits on your behalf at the local building codes office. But don't assume that it has happened. Check with the permitting office first. Work done without proper permits could result in a fine and time delay.

Have a load calculation done before installing a new system in any building. The best companies perform a thorough calculation rather than estimate. Buildings change over time due to foundations cracking or settling. It will affect the efficiency of any equipment. The HVAC company shouldn't use the old unit to determine the proper size of a new one. If your old

unit was inadequate, you will want to install a unit that is a different size. Speak with your HVAC installer to determine the right size and model for you. Ask your HVAC contractor to perform annual checkups to verify that the unit is running at peak efficiency. With these tips, you can choose a reliable HVAC business that will help you for years to come.

tattoo

How to Choose a Tattoo Studio

Body art has become so popular that it’s now considered mainstream for the younger generations. The centuries-old practice of using ink to decorate your skin is increasingly seen as a powerful means for people to express themselves artistically. This explosion in popularity means there are more choices than ever for where you can get a tattoo. Here are some things to keep in mind when picking a tattoo studio.

CLEANLINESS

The most obvious thing you need to look for is whether the studio is clean, and you can tell a lot about that just by looking around. See if the studio looks sanitary and well-organized. Any furniture in the tattoo area that comes into direct contact with a client being tattooed should have a disposable cover that is changed between each client visit. The tattoo artist should use a clean needle for every customer, too. Choose a studio that uses disposable needles and cartridges. To be certain, you can ask them to open the needle in front of you before using it. They should also use a separate source of ink for each client to avoid spreading infections, too.

LICENSED

Every state has different rules and regulations for tattoo studios, and you need to do your homework to find out what those regulations are where you live. Believe it or not, there are some studios that will open up without a license and without doing the proper training to ensure a sanitary environment. Check whether the studio has the proper license and ask about any training the tattoo artist has gone through to do their job in a sterile, safe way. Only use studios who are licensed and inspected by their respective state. Don’t use “scratchers” who work from their homes.

CREATIVITY Once you’ve ensured the studio is safe and licensed, then comes the fun part: choosing a tattoo design. There can be a wide variation in talent between different studios and even different artists working within the same studio. Check out the portfolios in the studio to see what kind of designs you can expect and make sure it’s up to your expectations. The best tattoo artists are exactly that — real artists — and can take your idea and turn it into a gorgeous piece of body art that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Look for true creativity and originality in the designs they offer.

PRICE It’s not a good idea to pick the

cheapest tattoo studio. Like with anything else in life, you get what you pay for, and low-cost studios are bound to be cutting corners somewhere. Whether by employing low-time, lowtalent artists or skimping on sanitation steps, you just don’t want to use a studio that’s known for being the cheapest in town. Ultimately, because tattoos are designed to be permanent, you want to pick the best artist you can find — even if it’s expensive. They should run their business in a clean, sterile way — almost with the cleanliness of a surgeon — but also have true artistic talent. That’s a rare combination to find, but it’s worth it to do your research and shop around until you find it.

hearing aid

Tips for selecting a quality hearing aid M

ore than 40 million Americans from all backgrounds suffer from some form of hearing loss or impairment. Hearing aids can help relieve the consequences of this condition and ensure that the hearing impaired lead richer, fuller lives. If you’re suffering from a hearing loss or impairment, a hearing aid may be just the thing for you. These devices are highly technical, customized to meet each individual's needs. Types of hearing loss vary widely, and are sometimes quite different from person to person. Recent innovations in hearing aids include digital processors to isolate and amplify the frequencies a patient needs most. Many of the latest hearing aids are so small they are practically invisible.

Styles

The good news is that you no longer need to purchase bulky, obvious hearing aids. Those went out years ago. The most popular hearing aids on the market fit completely within the ear canal. While they are attractive and barely noticeable, their small size means they are typically more expensive. Other styles include half-shell, fullshell, behind-the-ear and open-fit hearing aids. Because these hearing aids come in a range of sizes and prices, consult with a specialist to help you choose the right style to fit your needs.

Internal Electronics

The design of a hearing aid will make a large difference in cost and performance. Two devices may look similar but produce dramatically different results. The difference is in the internal electronics. Nearly all hearing aids available today are digital. They will filter out background noise, enabling the wearer to hear a conversation clearly. This technology is particularly effective in crowded settings. This technology can be tailored to

help with your particular kind of hearing loss. If you have an outdated hearing aid, consider upgrading to a more modern device. It will help your hearing be as close to natural as possible.

Options When you are searching for a hearing aid, look for special features that will enhance your hearing and your life. Some examples include: BLUETOOTH CONNECTIONS: You could connect wirelessly to Bluetooth electronic devices, such as smart phones. It allows you to hear phone conversations directly through your hearing aid. TELEPHONE ADAPTERS: This feature senses when you are talking on the phone and adjusts the setting to make

it more clear during your conversation. DIRECTIONAL MICROPHONE: You can adjust your device to pick up sound that is directly in front of you. For example, when you are having one-onone conversations with a person, it is useful to turn the microphone to improve your hearing. You may also change the setting to a more general setting that would be useful at public performances or concerts. REMOTE CONTROL: Some devices allow you to adjust the settings without touching it. A remote control can change the directional microphone or amplification. There are a lot of beautiful sounds in the world. Don’t let your hearing loss cause you to miss any more of them. A hearing aid can help you.

landscaping

How to Choose the Right Landscaper A meticulously maintained lawn coupled with blooming flowers, rocks and moss will give your surroundings beauty and a feeling of warmth - a wow factor. If your well-landscaped yard is maintained by a professional, it will increase the value of your home and property. If you are in the market for a landscaper, consider these tips.

Types of Landscapes There are usually five types of landscaped yards. Each requires the landscaper to have a different skill set. It is best to determine which landscape appeals to you before you begin your search for a quality professional. A formal garden uses many geometrical shapes in its design. Plants provide a focal point, making the yard appear balanced. To achieve this design, a landscaper will need to carefully prune hedges. An informal landscape looks like organized chaos. Plants appear to be placed randomly. Landscapers who use this design should be skilled at working with planters and urns. The English garden landscape uses the house as its focal point. All aspects of the yard will flow together. Professionals who use this design should be skilled at working with climbing vines, critical to this style. Oriental designs use rocks, mosses and evergreens. Calmness and quiet minimalism tend to be the effect of this style. To create a woodland design, the landscape must have great knowledge of native plants and making them look their best.

Set Your Budget Cost is always a concern when hiring a home improvement specialist. Set a budget and stick to it. Understand what you can afford and are willing to spend annually on your landscaping. It will help you prioritize your list so you can at least get

your necessities. You might need to make sacrifices. If you need a new landscaping wall, you might have to delay getting a sprinkler system. On the other hand, if irrigation is a must, then you might need to cut back on how often your lawn is mowed each month. Even if your budget is tight, don't get discouraged. Some landscapers may charge less in order to get your business.

Prioritize Your Needs Determining what you need will help you decide which services you require from a landscaping company. Most professionals offer the following: weekly or bi-weekly lawn and garden maintenance, weed control, tree pruning and shaping, plant installations, inspection and maintenance of irrigation systems and possi-

bly even the construction of retaining walls or other structures.

Get Referrals Neighbors are sometimes the best way to get referrals. If you like what you see in their yard, ask them for their landscaper's name. Discuss the pros and cons of the service as well. You can even watch the company perform work. It will give you an idea about their employees and work habits even before contacting them. You could also do an online search for landscaping companies. Be sure to read reviews from prior customers. Keep in mind, though, not all bad reviews are necessarily true. Some past clients may harbor a grudge and could inflate the problem. Good reviews also need to be taken into consideration. Some companies have people post good reviews even if the

person has never used their service. Also check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for more information. If any complaints have been lodged against the company, the BBB will inform you.

Consider Availability Availability is another factor when looking for a landscaper. One of the first questions to ask is how often the company will be available for maintenance. If you want to be home while the landscaper is working, make sure you can coordinate your schedule. Also consider community regulations. For example, if your town has noise regulations, ask each landscape company what they will do to adhere to them. Once you find a landscaper that meets your needs, you can sit back and enjoy your bountiful reward.
