Interim Camp Director Youth University, University Services, Brock University St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada Brock’s Youth University inspires and prepares young leaders for the 21st century. Programs for youth, families, and schools focus on a wide range of subject areas (including STEM), leadership and soft skill development, as well as early post-secondary and career preparation. At Youth University, Brock students from all faculties have the opportunity to learn while they work and are involved at all points from inquiry to implementation. Programs are researchbased and embody best practice in teaching and youth development. Youth University hosts over 7000 participants and 90 Brock students yearly.

We are seeking a Camp Director Youth University is seeking a Camp Director to oversee the Youth University Enrichment Day Camps. This includes development, marketing, staff oversight and development, risk management, public relations, finances and budgeting, and all related administration.

Specifically, you will:       

Ensure the delivery of high quality participant experiences that promote and reflect Youth University values, mission and research. Develop and execute marketing plans, build relationships with potential participants and alumni. Oversee registration and financial assistance processes, meet or exceed enrolment targets Train and develop students according to program needs and the Transferable Skills Development Program for Brock students. Oversee all operations during operating seasons to meet the needs of various stakeholders. Execute ongoing risk management documentation and crisis response following Brock University procedures Plan strategically for the continued growth and development of all programs Administer the annual budget and prepare reports on finances.

What you need to succeed…  An undergraduate degree.  First aid and CPR certification.  A minimum of 3+ years of management in education, community development, senior camp leadership, safety management (particularly for youth), or teaching.  Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of experiential learning, social and emotional learning, or transferable skills development.  Demonstrated knowledge of risk management planning and the ability to effectively manage emergency situations.  Working knowledge of special needs, program accessibility, and underserved populations.  Proven program management, financial/budget development, marketing, sales and administration skills.  Proficiency in MS Office, database, and internet research and communication.  Exceptional interpersonal, team building, and communication skills. Strong leadership and conflict management skills with the ability to motivate and influence others. Strong critical thinking, judgement, and analytical skills. A proven record of creativity and entrepreneurial initiative.

Preferred or Asset Skills:  Teaching Certification.  Master’s degree.  Training in challenge course management and professional ropes course certification.  Training in the educational use of technology.  Training in marketing and sales.  Training in alternative learning environments.  Training in student development.  Advanced understanding of STEM subject areas and Makerspace methodology. This is a seven month interim contract for $29 000. The contract will run April 1 to October 31, 2017.
