POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Manager Recreation, the Community Recreation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the delivery of community recreation programs for all WSPRS facilities; Juan de Fuca and Centennial Centres, Royal Bay and Belmont Neighborhood Learning Centres as well as other neighborhood facilities.

JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES             

Responsible for recruitment and selection of all staff within their authority. Conducts annual performance appraisals; evaluating, delivering and managing performance expectations and issues; e.g. progressive discipline. Mentors and provides leadership and direction to staff through goal setting and developing work plans while ensuring appropriate training systems are in place. Assesses community needs through evaluation, surveys, market research etc. Oversees the development and implementation of over 3000 recreation programs and services; monitors success and adjusts accordingly. Negotiates, implements and monitors Lease Agreements with user groups, the school district and community agencies and others as needed. Works with Manager to translate Society’s strategic goals into a department Work Plan; evaluates and monitors success. Develops, monitors and is accountable for the Community Recreation budget including all expenditures to ensure appropriate disbursement of funds. Develops policies, procedures and efficient administrative systems while addressing risk management and insurance issues. Provides verbal and written reports as required. Develops marketing initiatives and collaborates with corporate marketing plan. Develops sponsorships; researches, writes and applies for grants and develops & initiates public/private partnerships. Ensures that all requirements associated with community recreation facilities are coordinated effectively and efficiently; ensures all facilities and staff required for program delivery are in place.

QUALIFICATIONS              

Undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Physical education, Business Administration or a related area from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent work experience. Minimum of seven years of supervisory experience in a related field; demonstrated strong leadership skills in program development, coordination and evaluation. Demonstrate a thorough understanding to interpret trends, demographics, and community needs. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with departmental staff, the public and outside agencies. Excellent interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor and forecast budget requirements. Experience in co-coordinating multi-faceted events and event facilitation at a local, regional, provincial and international level. Ability to maintain records and compile brief reports. Ability to measure, interpret and implement performance measures. Ability to function effectively both independently and as member of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task to meet deadlines and program requirements. Computer skills include word processing, Excel and recreation specific software. Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificates, and BC Driver’s License required.
