INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION

The following general information will guide the admission of international students to programs at Red River College. Should an applicant not meet the standards of admission to the program they have applied for, an alternate program will be offered to the applicant. Every effort will be made to offer assistance in helping the applicant achieve their goals. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older prior to starting the program. Refer to the College website: www.rrc.ca or contact International Education for program-specific information.

HOW DO I APPLY? ENTRANCE PREREQUISITES

Academic Requirements and Documentation

• The majority of programs require that you have the equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma.

• Original or certified documents must be submitted. • All transcripts and other supporting documents must be in English or have certified English translations attached.

• Some programs will require additional documentation once it is

determined that the academic requirements have been met. Refer to additional program admission requirements on our website.

• CanTEST: minimum of 4.5 in Reading and Listening sections; 4.0 in Speaking

and Writing sections. A band level of 4.5 in Speaking may be required for some programs.

• MELAB: minimum final score of 80 with a minimum of 77 in Writing • CAEL: minimum overall result of 60 with a minimum of 60 in each section • RRC Language Training Centre placement tests: Only for applicants in Winnipeg

(testing fees apply)

Application processing will not start until all of the above documents are received and complete (including original transcripts and certificates or certified copies and translations, if required). Incomplete applications will result in your application being rejected.

English Language Proficiency Requirements (subject to change)

WHEN TO APPLY

English is the language of instruction and communication at Red River College. All international applicants must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to meet the demands of classroom instruction and written assignments by submitting one of the following English Language Proficiency test results. The following are College minimum English Language Proficiency requirements, however some programs may require higher levels of English Language proficiency.

Completed applications are accepted on an on-going basis and are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend that you apply at least six (6) months prior to the start of the program. Programs have a limited number of spaces available for international students.

Where there is uncertainty regarding academic or language readiness, additional college admissions assessments may be required. Assessment fees may apply.

• IELTS Academic Module: minimum of 6.5 in Listening, 6.5 in Reading, 6.0 in Writing, 6.5 in Speaking

Applicants must submit a non-refundable application fee and a non-refundable tuition deposit with a completed application package. Payment can be made by credit card, money order, bank draft or bank transfer payable to Red River College. Applications submitted without the fees may not be processed.

A. Intensive English for International Students (IEIS) (and /or) B. Academic Program CHECK the box beside the program(s) you are applying for. If applying for IEIS programs please complete SECTION A. If applying for an Academic Program (certificate, diploma, post-graduate diploma or degree) complete SECTION B. If you are applying for IEIS programs and an Academic Program, complete SECTIONS A and B. It is in your best interest to identify two program choices when applying for Academic Programs in the event the first program choice is not available. Indicate your PREFERRED START DATE you wish to start studies.

All applicants are required to submit proof of English language proficiency. Official examination results should be sent directly to the International Education Office.

5. RELEASE OF INFORMATION Many international applicants apply to RRC with the assistance of agents and relatives, or request that their marks/transcripts be given to other institutions. The College cannot discuss your application status, progress, attendance, etc., without your consent on file. Please complete and sign this section (if applicable).

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? 1. Processing: Upon receiving the required documents, the application will be processed. Depending on the program of choice, this process can take 2 to 3 weeks.

2. Acceptance Letter: If accepted into the program of choice, a Letter of Acceptance will be issued to you or your agent. 3.

Study Permit: Use the RRC Letter of Acceptance to apply to the Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission for a Study Permit. The Embassy will have other requirements that you must meet in order to get this visa/permit.

NOTE: You may study on a Visitor Visa for studies less than six (6) months; however, if you will be studying in a program that is longer than six months, or if you should decide to continue studies beyond six (6) months, you are required to have a Study Permit. For further information on studying in Canada refer to the Government of Canada website at www.cic.gc.ca

4. Prepare for Arrival: Refer to important information and timelines provided in your acceptance package and email correspondence. RRC REFUND POLICY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Withdrawals Before the Start of Classes Applicants will forfeit the application fee and the tuition deposit. All other fees paid will be refunded. Applicants who are denied Study Permits will forfeit only the $100 application fee if rejection document from the Canadian Embassy or Consulate is submitted.

Withdrawals After the Start of Classes • Students are responsible for all applicable fees up to the date a Student Withdrawal form has been received by the College. The effective withdrawal date will be the date a Student Withdrawal form is received by the Student Service Centre and will determine any eligibility for refund. • Withdrawal within the first 7% (the first week) of the term: refund of 100% of the fees less non-refundable deposit. • Students withdrawing between 7-25% of the term (approximately the first month) will receive 50% credit for tuition, technology, lab and material fees. No refunds are given for Students’ Association, software, Endowment or Student Service fees. • Students withdrawing after 25% of the program term receive no refund. Refunds are payable to the applicant or third party on consent of the applicant, and may be sent to the originating education agent.

CHANGE OF STATUS Students changing their status to Permanent Resident may be eligible to have their tuition adjusted for any future terms of study remaining in their program. Students are required to submit a copy of their landing document to initiate this adjustment and change of status. Students who have been approved as provincial nominees are required to pay international student fees until receiving official Permanent Resident status from Citizenship & Immigration Canada.
