You are cordially invited to our OSH&E Spring 2015 Graduation Ceremony, sponsored by Performance Contractors, GBRIA (Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance), Deep South Crane & Rigging, Hagemeyer, Glenn Young & Associates, GBRASSE, AADE New Orleans Chapter, Quality Tools & Services, etc. The ceremony is scheduled on Friday May 15, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Historic Michabelle Inn & Restaurant, http://www.michabelle.com. At the ceremony, Mr. David West, Chairman of BCSP (Board of Certified Safety Professionals) Judicial Commission and 2008-2013 Treasurer and Member of Board of Directors for BCSP, will present the GSP (Graduate Safety Practitioner) designations to the 10 OSH&E Spring 2015 graduate candidates. We have also invited representatives from GBRASSE, the CSIT Department Head, the Dean of College of Science and Technology, as well as some other colleagues and friends to celebrate the achievements with the graduates. Alumni News and Achievements OSH&E Alumni Chapter has been approved by the Board of Southeastern Alumni Association in December 2014. Dues are $30/year and are good from the date one joins until that same date the following year. Those interested can join online at https://www.southeastern.edu/ alumni_donors/alumni_assoc/membership/dues/index.php OR they can call the Alumni office at 985-549-2150 and they can take the payment over the phone.

Mr. Eric Miller, an OSH&E Fall 2012 Graduate, is now the Safety and Quality Lead for the CHEP Plant Division in Hammond.

Mr. JD Lavergne III, Safety Manager at ISC Constructors, LLC and an OSH&E Spring 2011 Graduate, received the following commendation for his work. "Under the leadership of Project Manager Scott Corrick and Safety Manager JD Lavergne, ISC completed over 234,000 safe man hours without a recordable injury. Both brought integrity and a 'Culture of Caring' to your workforce. Mr. Lavergne case management skills insured immediate oversight of all incidents while maintaining the balance to successfully insure required reporting protocol."

Mr. Bryan Perry, an OSH&E Fall 2014 Graduate, was recently hired as the Safety Coordinator for SNF Holding Company.

Ms. Lisa Bourgeois, an OSH&E Spring 2007 Graduate, earned her CSP certification in August 2014.

Mr. David Barker, an OSH&E Spring 2010 Graduate, earned his CSP certification recently.

Mr. Liam Doyle, an OSH&E Fall 2013 Graduate, was recently hired as a Process Safety Consultant for ERM in New Orleans.

Student News and Achievements Four OSH&E students, Mr. Domonique Fluence, Ms. Miranda Sciortino, Mr. Nathan Baldwin, Ms. Courtney Jones, and Dr. Lu Yuan participated in the East Baton Rouge Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day on Saturday Nov.22, 2014.

Mr. Christian Duet, an OSH&E Spring 2015 graduate candidate, received the 2014 American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) - New Orleans Chapter scholarship. Christian was recognized and presented with the award at the AADE - New Orleans Chapter Award Banquet on December 4, 2014.

One OSH&E Summer 2014 graduate and ten OSH&E Fall 2014 graduate candidates including Mr. Canyon Janneck, Mr. Jared Dale, Mr. James Good, Ms. Courtney Jones, Mr. Chase Millien, Mr. Bryan Perry, Mr. Anthony Provence Jr., Mr. Ian Reggio, Mr. Micah Rollins (absent), Ms. Denise Sovek, and Mr. Jason Young, were recognized and presented with the GSP designations at the OSH&E Fall 2014 Graduation Ceremony on December 5, 2014.

Two OSH&E students, Ms. Denise Breard and Mr. Sam Crifasi, took the Axiall Corporation plant tour on Mar.4, 2015. Many thanks to Mr. Jake Valenti, CSP, Sr. EHS&S Professional at Axiall Corporation and an OSH&E Spring 2009 Graduate for offering such an opportunity to all OSH&E students.

Mr. Keaton Northington, ASSE Student Section President 2014-2015, received the 2015 ASSE Foundation Greater Baton Rouge Chapter Don Jones Excellence in Safety Scholarship.

Ms. Melanie Verdin, ASSE Student Section Treasurer Spring 2015 and an OSH&E Spring 2015 Graduate Candidate, received the 2015 ASSE Foundation ISNetworld Scholarship and Spring 2015 GBRASSE Scholarship.

Mr. Brennen Waguespack received Spring 2015 GBRASSE Scholarship.

Mr. Zachary Smith received Spring 2015 GBRASSE Scholarship.

Ms. Leiah Roberts received Spring 2015 Linda Sullivan Scholarship.

Ms. Melanie Verdin, ASSE Student Section Treasurer Spring 2015 and an OSH&E Spring 2015 graduate candidate, conducted a research study on Disinfectant and the Disinfection By-product Rule: Side Effects of Increased Chlorine Use for Fighting the Brain Eating Amoeba Naegeria Fowleri with Dr. Ephraim Massawe in Spring 2015. Melanie presented this study at the annual Southeastern Students’ Research, Creative, and Scholar Activities Showcase on March 17, 2015, http://www.southeastern.edu/admin/osrp/images/showcase_2015.pdf.

Mr. Jonathan Monistere, an OSH&E Spring 2015 graduate candidate, was selected for the 2015 OSH&E Outstanding Graduating Senior Award.

Faculty and OSH&E Program News GBRASSE established an Endowed Scholarship for OSH&E majors at Southeastern in Fall 2014. In addition to the Endowed Scholarship, GBRASSE also provided one-time scholarships annually, starting with four $1,000 scholarships for the Spring/Fall 2015 semesters.

Dr. Lu Yuan was invited to represent the OSH&E program at the 19th GBRIA Annual Contractor Safety Excellence Awards banquet in Baton Rouge on March 19, 2015.

Dr. Lu Yuan is invited to be the guest speaker for the 2015 Louisiana Occupational Health Conference at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge on August 1, 2015.

Dr. Ephraim Massawe led a group of OSH&E students to conduct a tour of the Ross & Wallace Paper Products, Inc in Hammond on February 20, 2015.

Dr. Ephraim Massawe mentored Ms. Melanie Verdin, ASSE Student Section Treasurer Spring 2015 and an OSH&E Spring 2015 graduate candidate, and Mr. Samson Ajay, an Industrial Technology student, to present their research studies at the annual Southeastern Students’ Research, Creative, and Scholar Activities Showcase on March 17, 2015.
