Paralympic Committee

Vacancy:

IPC Volunteer Writers The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. The IPC supervises the organisation of the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and serves as International Federation for nine sports, for which it supervises and co-ordinates the World Championships and other competitions. The IPC is committed to enabling Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and to developing sport opportunities for all persons with a disability from the beginner to elite level. In addition, the IPC aims to promote the Paralympic values, which include courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is looking to recruit a number of volunteer writers to produce content for Paralympic.org, the IPC’s website, and a number of international sport federations in order to continue raising the profile of para-sport and its athletes in the lead-up to Rio 2016 and PyeongChang 2018. Writers of any age are encouraged to apply for this incredible chance to cover athletes who compete regularly in the 28 different para-sports as well as the Paralympics – the world’s second biggest multi-sport event. Those selected will work remotely from their homes and write and report on a specific Paralympic sport, providing coverage to sports fans everywhere on Paralympic.org, a website viewed by millions of people each year. Although the position is unpaid, the experience you will receive is invaluable and will look outstanding on any curriculum vitae or resume. Of the volunteer writers recruited, the best and most enthusiastic will be invited by the IPC to attend and cover regional and World Championship events as well as future Paralympics – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A number of successful Paralympic.org writers have already had the chance to cover London 2012 and Sochi 2014 for the IPC and have gone on to accept full-time work as sports reporters for newspapers or media agencies.

Reporting directly to the IPC media department, these will be your tasks and responsibiIities: • Write news and features for a specific Paralympic sport. Content will appear on Paralympic.org as well as the international federation website for your sport. • Keep a close watch on what’s happening in your para-sport throughout the year. • Potential to cover a para-sport event in person if there is an event near your hometown. • Update profile pages of leading athletes. • Work with international sport federations to update their website and social media channels.

You should meet our requirements: • Have strong writing and reporting skills, as well as keen attention to detail. • Pursuing or having a degree in journalism, public relations or a media and communications related field is seen as a plus. • Have the ability to recognise a strong news story and be able to adapt to different styles of writing. • Have a general understanding and interest in international sport, sport rules, competitions and tournament structures (especially Olympic and/or Paralympic sports). • Be flexible and be able to write and report on tight deadlines. • Be familiar with social and digital media, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. • Written and spoken knowledge of a language other than English is a plus.

Do you want to apply? If you are interested and your qualifications meet our requirements, please send your CV and 2-3 writing samples to the IPC’s Editorial Co-ordinator at [email protected] by 4 April. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us or see detailed information on the IPC and the Paralympic Movement on our website at www.paralympic.org.
