THE TILLER NEWS T-TOWN’S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER, PRODUCED BY STAFF AND STUDENTS

BRIEF HAPPENINGS STATE TESTING BEGINS

DEPARTMENT AWARDS

SIGNING DAY

Beginning on April 24th, our Juniors began taking the CAASPP State Examinations which will continue next week on May 1st and 2nd. These exams are part of a yearly effort to assess College and Career Readiness across the state of California.

Award luncheons continued this week with 2 department ceremonies and the Biliteracy Awards. AVID, ASB, and Athletics programs were celebrated along side the Physical Education, Science and Special Education departments.

Our Athletic Tillers have made their commitments and were celebrated in the Plaza this afternoon! Seniors Larry Harris, John Ayala, Dwayne Angebrandt, Marcus Johnson, Kaitlin Phillips, and KC Carr will be taking their talents to the Collegiate level!

FEATURED ARTICLES CINDERELLA COMES ALIVE ON THE TUSIN PLAZA By Sarah Markley, on behalf of the Visual and Performing Arts Department

F

or those of us who spent one of the evening's last week enjoying the THS Performing Arts performance of Cinderella outside on the Tiller Plaza stage, we can say it was a night to remember. Under the direction of David Peay and Sarah Markley, over sixty THS students participated both on the stage and behind the scenes to make Cinderella an exciting and successful event. Seniors Milca Salazar (Cinderella), Sam Alvarado (The Prince), Drew Donahoo (The King), Natalie Avina (The Queen), Gisele Duarte (Caliope) and Daniel Bejarano (Lionel) joined with underclassmen Izzy Billings (The Stepmother), Monica Smith (Fairy Godmother) and Rebecca Hawkes (Minerva) and their Choir and Advanced Theatre Arts classmates to showcase their singing and acting skills. Well done, students!

“STAY RED” AUDION By Emily Crowl, Editor-in-Chief of the Audion

J

ust recently THS’s yearbook class, dubbed Audion, reached its biggest milestone of the year: finishing the yearbook. The 92nd yearbook of Tustin High, titled “Stay Red,” features stellar photography by staff members, fresh spreads, and extensive coverage of this year’s programs and activities. This year, rather than doing the traditional white pages, the book has all black pages to showcase the photography within the book. It is a sleek look for all to enjoy. The yearbook staff came to the table this year pushing for a theme that captured what it meant to be a Tiller. Tustin High, in the eyes of Yearbook, is a unique campus that celebrates diversity, but yet, comes together as one giant family. Stay Red was ultimately chosen as the theme of the yearbook to celebrate Tustin High and what principles it stands for, with hope that students are always proud to be a Tiller and stay a Tiller. Currently, the yearbook is on sale for a reduced price of $90 online at jostensyearbooks.com through May 4, or for $95 at the student store while supplies last. Distribution is expected to be during the last week of May. The yearbook staff suggests that this book is not one to miss out on—buy yours today!

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK! By Melissa Trout, Girls’ Athletics Director

By Tom Giebe, Boys’ Athletics Director

A

ndrea Rojas is our Lady Tiller Athlete of the Week. Although she is only a sophomore, she has taken on a huge responsibility for the Girls’ Lacrosse Program. As the starting goalie for the squad, Andrea protects the goal in equipment that is heavy enough to drown her. However, her fearless determination and pride make that extra uniform weight bearable. Andrea is the heart of the defense and always communicates to other defenders during matches. In addition to being a Varsity athlete, she is also involved in the AVID Program and has the highest GPA in the Program. Congratulations to Andrea and the rest of the Tillers on a successful end to their season. TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL Home of the Tillers 1171 El Camino Real, Tustin, CA 92780 (714) 730-7414

O Andrew Donahoo

Andrea Rojas

ur Tiller Boys Athlete of the Week is Senior Volleyball player Drew Donahoo. Drew, a captain of the team, is consistently one of the most physical and emotional players on the court averaging 12 kills a game to go along with an ace from the service line in every match. Drew has led his Tiller teammates to an impressive 22-2 record this year, a number one ranking in our division and, hopefully, a league title. Drew and his teammates had a home volleyball match this Thursday and will have their senior night next Tuesday. Come on out and support Drew and the Tillers!
