THE JM GROUP COMMENTARY The healthy UK job market means that overall contract rates have risen slightly, however in niche areas such as Cloud, Mobile and Cyber Security the increases have been significant. Demand for high calibre candidates remains fierce, with the number of job applications for each vacancy up by 17% compared to last year. Employers are addressing the IT skills shortage by focusing on Temporary and Interim professionals, allowing them to play a greater role. In a tighter market, Contractors are becoming even more important as permanent staff are in shorter supply, particularly in the Regulatory Change and Cyber Security space and cutting edge development. Businesses are recognising that Contractors are now in a candidate-driven IT skills market and this is reflected in the competitive rates on offer.

2016 has so far been a good year for the permanent employment market as the demand for highly skilled IT professionals continues to grow despite the recent Brexit - the effects of which are yet to be felt. Companies are competing for skilled candidates more than ever before, with many receiving multiple offers and counteroffers. Businesses are looking to attract and retain the top talent and this is reflected in the salaries and packages offered. The demand will remain for IT Security and Digital candidates, largely as a consequence of high-profile security breaches. This trend with continue for the foreseeable future as companies invest heavily across the sector. Overall our expectations for the remainder of the year and into 2017 remain positive.
