Special Presentations on Outer Space Activities At the end of the morning session (740th) of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, today, 8 February 2011, there will be three special presentations on “Integrated Space applications” by Mr. Amnon Ginati of the European Space Agency, on “Enhancing global Cooperation in satellite based Emergency Mapping” by Mr. Stefan Voigt of Germany and on “Introduction of United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme on Nano-Satellite Technologies” by Mr. Mengu Cho of Japan, in Room M1.

Special Presentations on Outer Space Activities At the end of the afternoon session (741st) of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, today, 8 February 2011, there will be three special presentations on “Alsat-2A” by Mr. Tahar Iftene of Algeria, on “The role of TUBITAK for recent developments in the field of space in Turkey” by Mr. Yunus Emre Arslantaş of Turkey and on “Recommendations from the Space Generation Congress 2010: Input from the Next Generation of Space Sector Leaders on the Development of Space” by Ms. Angeliki Kapoglou of the Space Generation Advisory Council, in Room M1.

SUMMARY OF SCHEDULED MEETINGS 738th meeting Adoption of the Agenda [1] The provisional agenda (A/AC.105/C.1/L.306) was adopted. Statement by the Chair [2] The Chair made an opening statement outlining the work of the Subcommittee. Organization of work The Subcommittee decided to invite the representatives of Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Zimbabwe to participate in the session as observers. The Subcommittee also decided to invite the representatives of the Association for Remote Sensing Centers in the Arab World to participate in the session as observers.

General exchange of views [3] The Subcommittee began its consideration of this item with statements by Algeria, Ecuador, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Kenya, the Philippines and the Syrian Arab Republic. The representatives of Colombia on behalf of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of the Group of 77 and China also made statements. The Director of the Office for Outer Space Affairs made a statement on the work of the Office. 739th meeting General exchange of views [3] The Subcommittee continued its consideration of this item with statements by China, Pakistan and the United States of America. The observer for the Space Generation Advisory Council also made a statement. United Nations Programme on Space Applications [4] The Subcommittee began its consideration of this item with a statement by the United Nations Expert on Space Applications.

UNISPACE III [5] The Subcommittee began its consideration of this item with a statement by Japan. Special presentations Presentations were made by the representative of Japan on “Summary of APRSAF-17: The role of space technology and industry in addressing climate change” and by the representative of the Russian Federation on “Analysis of modes and estimation of costs to decrease the level of space contamination during space missions realization”.

WORKING GROUP OF THE WHOLE The Working Group held a closed meeting in the afternoon.
