There are more than 220 new courses from January 2017 at our main centres in Gants Hill and Ilford and the local centres provided by our community partners. With so many courses available, we hope you will find one that will interest you, help you develop your career, learn something new or just have fun!

Learning support

We have a wide range of courses designed to help people into work or develop their careers. Many of these courses are free to those seeking work.

Our Learning support team work closely with tutors to offer additional learning support to learners who may need some extra help.

If you think you need extra support, we will arrange an appointment for you with our Learning support adviser to discuss what additional help you may need.

Joining a course You can join a course by telephone, by post or in person at our Gearies Centre - our contact details are given below. It takes only a few minutes to complete our enrolment form and you can pay by cheque, cash or credit or debit card. You can pay for some courses in instalments and some courses have reduced fees. Please contact our Learning advisers to find out if concessionary fees or paying in instalments are available for your course and your circumstances. Before joining a course, please ask for a course factsheet or contact us to confirm the course details given in this listing. There is not always enough room to include all details about a course in this guide and details may change after it is published.

Learn to Speak English with Confidence at an English language practice club The SpEC project offers women the opportunity of joining a Club for free ESOL provision. Learning resource centre The Learning resource centre at Gearies is a quiet study area for learners. It has 11 PCs with Office and specialist software, for example Sage, installed and access to a copier, printing and a scanner. All PCs have internet access. We also have a small ‘internet café’ in the North wing reception area. Please note that access to PCs is on a first come, first served basis.

Help to get into work Work Club A weekly drop in Work Club in conjunction with WorkRedbridge designed to offer you confidence building, employment support and advice and helpful hints in a more relaxed group session. They are a great way to get the support you need to get back into work. At our Monday Work Club, you'll get help with CV writing, job searching and interview techniques and have access to computers and the internet. Work Clubs are open to everyone, however there may be some exceptions so please contact us to check eligibility criteria before visiting the Institute. National Careers Service Confidential and impartial one to one information, advice and guidance sessions are available from professionally qualified career advisors. You can book an appointment to help you manage your career and progress into learning, training and employment. Employability Workshops Our free short courses area available throughout the year. They are for learners looking for employment or a career change. These workshops will help you with your CV, searching online for jobs, completing online and paper job applications, preparing for job interviews and improving your confidence.

Cafe We have a popular café at our Gearies Centre which serves a variety of healthy, freshly prepared food during term times. Snacks, sandwiches, rolls, salads and hot food are available during the day and evening and hot meals can be pre-ordered for lunch and evening breaks. The café is run for us by Aldersbrook Deli.
