Job Description: Executive Director of Miraclefeet India MiracleFeet Overview MiracleFeet is an international nonprofit organization that increases access to proper treatment for children born with clubfoot in developing countries through partnerships with local healthcare providers. There are over one million people living with untreated clubfoot around the world, making it one of the primary causes of physical disability in the world. Thanks to a non-surgical treatment known as the Ponseti Method, it is possible to treat clubfoot effectively and safely for as little as $250 per child. By increasing access to treatment, MiracleFeet gives children born with clubfoot the chance to live healthy, productive lives. See www.miraclefeet.org to learn more about the issue of clubfoot. MiracleFeet supports clubfoot programs in 22 countries which have treated over 29,000 children till date, and takes a business-minded approach to solving the problem of clubfoot. The MiracleFeet Foot Abduction Brace, designed in collaboration with Stanford University, helps brings low cost treatment to clinics around the world. In 2016, MiracleFeet won a $1 Million grant from Google.org to developed technology tools to assist the operation of clubfoot clinics – these tools are currently being tested and deployed around the world. MiracleFeet began working in India in 2011, and has supported the treatment of over 14,500 children till date. In 2014, MiracleFeet India was established in Mumbai with the vision of building a self-sustainable, Indian-led NGO focused on clubfoot. Since then, MiracleFeet India has gained the support of leading Indian corporations and foundations, including the JSW Foundation, Bajaj Foundation, Hero Enterprises, Tata Power, Tata Investment Corporation, Tata International, Videocon D2H, Pacific India, and more. The organization has recruited an all-Indian Board of Directors composed of business and medical leaders passionate about tackling the cause of clubfoot. MiracleFeet India is officially registered as the “MiracleFeet Foundation for Eliminating Clubfoot” and is 12AA and 80G registered.

Summary The Executive Director (ED) of MiracleFeet India is entrusted with realizing MiracleFeet’s mission of ensuring that no child grows up disabled as a result of being born with clubfoot. The ED leads the organization in developing the programmatic model, financial resources, organizational infrastructure, culture, and competencies necessary to reach MiracleFeet India’s long-term goal of ending disability caused by clubfoot in India. The position demands a passion for building sustainable health programs which put the child at the center of decision making. The ED also needs an entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility, and energy to continue to grow and develop a young NGO. 1

Reporting to the India Board of Directors and working closely with MiracleFeet USA leadership, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for MiracleFeet India’s staff, programs, resource mobilization, expansion, and execution of its mission. The ED will have deep knowledge of core programs, will have a full understanding of the fundraising and CSR landscape, and will ensure that the organization operates efficiently within the approved budget and in full compliance with Indian government regulations. He/she will develop and execute a 3-year operating plan, strategic goals and budget with input from the senior leadership team, to be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be based in MiracleFeet’s Mumbai office and will travel frequently within India and occasionally internationally to support the fundraising and programmatic needs of the organization.

Position Responsibilities Overall Leadership (20% of time): • • •

Develop an annual Operating Plan and Budget that provides a roadmap for the organization to implement against. Provide opportunities to measure progress against the plan and adjust as needed. Develop a long-term resource mobilization and program plan for achieving the goals laid out in the Global Plan to End Clubfoot Disability. (http://globalclubfoot.com/runfree2030/) Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals as described in the annual operating plan. Lead, coach, develop, and retain MiracleFeet India’s team in Mumbai and across India. Develop a strong relationship with MiracleFeet India’s Board of Directors; provide Board-level material for regular Board meetings, seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for program and resource mobilization; solicit input and develop buy-in from Board on overall strategic direction of the organization. Represent MiracleFeet nationally to further enhance the organization’s reputation and awareness of progress around solving the issue of untreated clubfoot. Actively engage and energize donors, board members, partnering organizations and the orthopedic community. Stay up-to-date on latest thinking within public health, disability, and mHealth; identify and assess how emerging trends may impact MiracleFeet’s work in India.

Programs (30% of time): • • • •

Ensure continued development of existing clubfoot programs and plan for new programs in public, private, and semi-private Indian healthcare settings. Support evolution of program model to incorporate best practice, technological advances and public health learning. Provide support to program managers to assist them in setting priorities and goals, including achievement of quality metrics, defining goals, identifying challenges, and developing solutions. Promote data-driven decisions and proactive quality improvement initiatives to improve the overall quality of clubfoot treatment and ensure strong country programs.

Review quarterly quality and expense reporting, ensure adequate checks and balances are in place to minimize risk, while balancing the need to for flexibility as conditions change or opportunities arise. Ensure program team maintains a culture of flexibility, nimbleness, entrepreneurship and efficiency in delivery of services to children born with clubfoot. Hire a Director of Programs and support him/her in developing a 3-5 year plan for expansion of programs to come closer to achieving the Global Plan to End Clubfoot Disability (treating 70% of clubfoot cases in the regions in which we are active). Provide guidance regarding changes in program model, strategic planning process, and overcoming challenges and issues that are part of operating in India. Monitor activities to ensure highest ethical standards are met and financial and political risk is minimized.

Fundraising and Marketing (30% time): • •

Work with the Fundraising Manager to ensure financial growth and sustainability. Manage planning and execution of activities that encompass fundraising – engaging high net worth individuals, securing grants from foundations and government entities, pursuing corporate CSR partnerships, and, to a lesser degree, developing an expanded base of small donors through marketing and social media. Develop strong relationships with the largest donors and play an active role in securing continued long-term support. Ensure systems are in place for timely and high-quality reporting of impact to donors, donor database management and regular communication with donors. Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web and social media presence to external relations and PR opportunities with the goal of creating a stronger brand and increased awareness of the issue of clubfoot. Leverage external presence and personal, board and donor relationships to garner new opportunities.

Operations (20% of time): •

Support Finance Manager to attain highest levels of financial management, ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed, and that the organization is in compliance with Indian legal and tax regulations. Ensure that outside auditors have easy access to information and maintain record of clean audits. Ensure that infrastructure and systems are in place to support a growing team and international footprint. Cultivate a culture of cross-team and cross-country collaboration and support through active communication, cross-team working groups, and effective use of technology. Ensure effective systems to regularly evaluate program quality, fundraising and marketing success and financial management and use these systems to effectively report on progress to the board, funders, and other constituents.

Monitor the cash flow of the organization, paying careful attention to appropriate use of restricted funds, and provide the Board with monthly reports on the revenues and expenditures of the organization.
