About Audubon Society of Portland Audubon Society of Portland has been a leading voice in conservation for over a century. Through conservation advocacy, environmental education, and wildlife rehabilitation, we promote the understanding, enjoyment, and protection of native birds, other wildlife and their habitats. We are located in a 150-acre wildlife sanctuary in Forest Park, just minutes from downtown Portland. With over 15,000 members and 450 regular volunteers, we are the largest independent chapter of the National Audubon Society in the United States. Job Summary The Facilities & Nature Sanctuaries Manager is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and enjoyment of our facilities and properties, and for improving the ecological health of our protected habitat. Facilities include 150 acres of forest and streams, five miles of trails, five buildings, and a diverse array of equipment and utilities, including a septic system. Essential Duties and Responsibilities ● Manage operations, maintenance, and capital projects at locations on Cornell Rd, Marmot Cabin in Sandy, Oregon, and flight cages with care to exercise the most sustainable practices available. ● Transparently prioritize, coordinate, and address facility repair and improvement needs according to strategic priorities. ● In coordination with departmental leads, develop annual maintenance and capital repairs plan. ● Select and oversee contractors and skilled trades volunteers as necessary. ● Plan and implement regular preventative maintenance schedules for facilities and grounds. ● Supports the implementation of equity, inclusion, and diversity goals and strategies for the sanctuaries and facilities department that accentuate the diversity of the communities engaged in Portland Audubon’s mission work. ● Address facility and grounds-related inquiries and complaints. ● Provide a welcoming, inviting presence to visitors and volunteers from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. ● Ensure the effective use of volunteer staff in supporting operations and maintenance through recurring volunteerstaffed crews and work-parties.



Implement safety program including building code, fire code, and OSHA compliance. Supervise and monitor security of facilities and grounds. ● Work with volunteer advisory Sanctuaries Committee in natural resource and facilities planning (6-12 meetings annually). ● Supervise the Sanctuaries Caretaker and oversee the ecological health of all properties. ● Maintain supply and equipment inventories. ● Other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications ● At least 3 years of experience in skilled trades-related field (carpentry, landscaping, etc.) ● At least 3 years of direct experience in facilities management, contracting, and/or related background. ● Experience working towards equity, diversity and an inclusive culture within an organization. ● Ability to speak Spanish or another language in addition to English. ● Excellent organizational and problem solving skills. ● Experience supervising staff and working with volunteers. ● Ability to use PC-based computers and software effectively, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Working Conditions ● Frequent travel within the greater Portland region ● Monthly travel within 40 miles of Portland ● Occasional evening and weekend duties ● Requires personal vehicle for travel (mileage reimbursement) ● Mix of office work: sitting at a desk or working at a computer terminal, field presence, off-site meetings. ● A physically demanding job: employee must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, and to work under remote field conditions.
