Intern (1 Unpaid Graduate-Student Level Opening Available) Equal Opportunity Employer The Village of Lincolnwood, Illinois (12,590 – 2010 census) is a professionally-managed home-rule municipality directly north of the City of Chicago with a unique blend of residential, commercial, and manufacturing areas. The Village is seeking an individual to serve as the Intern in the Public Works Department. The position is expected to assist with the administration of the Public Works Department and to provide support for ongoing activities. The duties of the position include undertaking and preparing research, minute-taking, participation in committees, preparation of presentations, and serving as a customer service representative for the Department. The Intern is expected to provide research and develop documents for consideration by various public bodies including the Traffic Commission and the Village Board. Additionally, the position is responsible for drafting and editing the newsletter articles produced by the Department. The position will report to the Assistant to the Public Works Director. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree and be working toward a Master's Degree from an accredited College or University in Public Administration or related fields. The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics and abilities: excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate well, make appropriate decisions using sound judgment, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and stakeholders, ability to work outside in various environmental conditions, and ability to write reports, minutes, memoranda, directives, and letters. The Village offers a mentoring opportunity for an MPA student with seasoned staff members involved with many professional associations including ICMA, ILCMA, IAMMA, and the American Planning Association. This is a non-paid part-time position internship for graduate level students interested in pursuing a career in local government. A six month commitment from the successful candidate is preferred.
