JOB SUMMARY The Web and Social Media Coordinator is a new position responsible for providing support, coordination and oversight of Tree Canada’s online presence. This includes providing web writing, some graphic/photo editing, and other support to assist the organization’s summer project to revamp its website under the direction of the manager of communications and marketing. The candidate is expected to work off-site of our Ottawa headquarters but will be expected to participate in staff meetings by occasionally coming into the office.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: As our Web and Social Media Coordinator, you will be expected to: • • • • • •

Develop creative and engaging text, image and video content for our website, blog, mailing list and social media channels; Suggest creative new ways to grow the Tree Canada brand online and engage with target audiences and everyday Canadians; Manage the Tree Canada blog and social media posting schedule, optimizing timing of new posts; Help carry out the organization’s pre-existing social media strategy; Curate appropriate imagery/photos for new web and social media content; Help support the organization’s website revamp project with creative writing;

Engage with individuals online and on social media in a prompt, professional and proactive manner; and Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • •

Either completed or currently working on a post-secondary degree, diploma or certification in communications, marketing or a related field (journalism, creative writing etc.) Some previous experience (full time, part-time or seasonal) in communications/information technology

DECISION MAKING & ACCOUNTABILITY • • • •

Works under minimal supervision using own judgement to prioritize and lead projects Makes decisions and exercises judgement within generally established procedures and practices Seeks guidance and consults with others as required Accountable to the Manager of Communications and Marketing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Essential: • Proven track record on social media including strong knowledge of best practices for maximizing impact of social media posts; • Knowledge of WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft Excel; • Excellent written communication skills including knowledge of Web best practices; • Willingness to work occasional overtime; • Extremely detail-oriented and organized; • Proven creative skills with an eye for design; and • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines. Asset: • Knowledge of, or experience in, the environmental non-profit sector or forestry sector; • Some basic knowledge of HTML and CSS; • English/French bilingualism (strong asset); • Graphic design and photo editing capabilities (Canva, Photoshop/Pixlr, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator or others) considered a very strong asset. • Ability to work both independently and with a team in a fast paced environment

Compensation Salary will be dependent upon experience and education: $15-$22/hour category.
