Jobs and Training
Steelhead LNG’s proposed Malahat LNG Project has the potential to diversify the local economy and provide job opportunities close to home for Vancouver Island families. Our goal is to maximize employment opportunities for Aboriginal and local residents as much as possible. We’re committed to supporting people so they can understand job requirements and get the skills they need to take advantage of opportunities in the future. Estimated employment benefits from Steelhead LNG’s proposed Malahat LNG Project:
CONSTRUCTION
350 - 400
workers during peak construction
OPERATIONS
SPINOFF JOBS
UP TO 200
HUNDREDS
well paid, long-term positions on Vancouver Island
of additional indirect jobs on Vancouver Island and elsewhere in Western Canada
Timing Early project development generally takes three to four years. If Steelhead LNG decides to move forward with the proposed Malahat LNG Project, on-site construction could take between two and three years. The facility would be in operation for 25 years. Jobs associated with the decommissioning of land-based components of the facility would also be available at the end of its lifespan.
Strong Local Workforce The majority of the direct and indirect job benefits will occur during on-site construction and operations of the proposed facility. Our goal is to help Aboriginal and local workers access programs and services that can help them gain the qualifications needed for future opportunities. A diverse set of skills are required to build and operate an LNG facility. These skills transfer across many other sectors and can prepare people for a broad range of opportunities. On-site construction for the proposed Malahat LNG facility will be focused on activities that are well-known in British Columbia, such as coastal construction work, including buildings and marine jetties.

Getting Started
We’re looking at ways to connect interested Aboriginal and local residents with training programs while we complete early design work on our proposed Malahat LNG Project. Some of the initiatives we’re working on at this early stage include: •
collaborating with communities and supporting them to address individual barriers to training and education;
•
engaging with the local community and participating in job fairs; and
•
providing information on future project employment needs and what education, training and skills may be required to attain these opportunities.
*The jobs listed could be a combination of positions directly employed by Steelhead LNG or contracted through a selected contractor
