elcome. Joffre Lakes Provincial Park protects 1,460 hectares of mountain wilderness in the transition between the coast mountains and the dry interior of the province. This magnificent area of jagged peaks, icefields, cold rushing streams and turquoise blue lakes was established as a recreation area in 1988 and became a Class A park in 1996. Steeply rising from Lower Joffre Lake, the glacier-laden peaks are visible from an easily accessible viewpoint 500 metres from the parking lot. Evidence of the park’s glacial history can be found in the U-shaped valleys, glacial silts and lateral moraines. Floral displays are spectacular for brief periods in the summer months and opportunities for photography abound.

Help Protect Our Environment Trees, shrubs and plants are part of the park’s natural heritage. Thin soils on bedrock and tiny alpine plants are very easily damaged by hiking boots. Stay on thetrails and leave everything as you find it. Mule deer and coastal blacktailed deer, black bears and mountain goats make their homes in and around the park. Pikas and hoary marmots may also be seen. Be careful when viewing wildlife. Keep a safe distance and do not feed any animals.
