July 12, 2017 New documents posted for two California Water Plan Update 2018 workshops

The draft agenda has been posted for the next California Water Plan Update 2018 workshop. It will be Wednesday, July 19. The topic will be water investment and funding. A webcast will be available. Also available are the meeting notes from the Update 2018 workshop on long-term sustainability that was held June 14.

Drought preparedness workshops set for August in Southern California

Two drought preparedness workshops will be held next month in Southern California. They are designed to assist small communities and rural, disadvantaged systems. The workshops will be Aug. 21, in San Diego; and Aug. 22, in Rialto. They are hosted by the California Rural Water Association and DWR.

Caltrans water quality efforts to be discussed during next STORMS seminar

The next installment of the Strategy to Optimize Resource Management of Storm Water (STORMS) seminar series will be Monday, July 17, in Sacramento. “Working Together to Protect Every Drop,” will include the work by Caltrans to protect water quality. The STORMS Seminar Series is an effort by the State Water Resources Control Board to share stormwater management information.

Annual report covers accomplishments by the Strategic Growth Council

The Strategic Growth Council has released its annual report to the Legislature. The report documents the council’s accomplishments during the last fiscal year. The list includes administering funds for actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in California’s most disadvantaged communities.

California headwater issues in the spotlight at Sierra Water Workgroup summit

A two-day summit on California’s headwater issues will be hosted by the Sierra Water Workgroup on July 24 and 25, in Kings Beach. Climate change and integrated regional water management will be among the primary topics. There will also be presentations on how State and federal agencies are addressing headwater issues.

U.S. Forest Service provides preview of new plan for Inyo National Forest

The U.S. Forest Service is providing a preview of its revised plan for the Inyo National Forest. In the coming weeks it will provide updates on wild and scenic rivers, and species of concern. The final report is expected to be released later this year.

Webinar series looks at climate change as a public health issue

The San Luis Obispo Public Health Department will host a series of webinars this summer looking at climate change as a public health issue. The series begins Wednesday, July 19, with a look at climate communication issues and the connection between climate change and human health.
