TRI-DIOCESAN COUNCIL

July, 2016 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, This year’s Fall Camp promises to be another opportunity to gather at Shrine Mont with over 125 folks from all three Episcopal Diocese in Virginia. This is one of the few things all three diocese do together. Our keynote speaker is Barbara Cawthorne Crafton. She is an Episcopal priest, author, actress, director and producer. Barbara heads the Geranium Farm, an institute for the promotion of spiritual growth. The Farm publishes her Almost Daily eMo, a meditation that is read online by tens of thousands worldwide via email and at the Geranium Farm website. She has served a number of churches including St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Metuchen, New Jersey; historic Trinity Church, Wall Street; St. John’s-in-theVillage; and St. Clement’s in Manhattan’s theater district. She was a maritime chaplain on the New York waterfront, and served as a chaplain at Ground Zero after the attack on the World Trade Center and also served at St. James, the American Church in Florence, Italy. A spiritual director, Crafton leads retreats and teaches throughout the United States and abroad. Barbara has written numerous books. Her latest is The Courage to Grow Old. Barbara Crafton is married to Richard Quaintance, sometimes better known as “Q”, a professor of English literature. She has two children and two grandchildren. “Q” will be joining us at Fall Camp. The Chaplain this year is David Colin Jones. Bishop Jones' 17 years of ministry to the Diocese of Virginia as Suffragan Bishop were marked by many things including a passion for international mission and the Church in Sudan; a love for ecumenical ministries; and a strong support of multicultural congregations. Most apparent was his unwavering commitment to planting new congregations and strengthening small congregations. He and his wife Kay have two children. Kay will be joining us at Fall Camp. They spend their time in Burke and the Northern Neck. Ed Kilbourne returns as our singer, storyteller, humorist, and folk-theologian. He will lead morning devotions and entertain us at the Wednesday Night Coffee House. Numerous workshops are offered during camp. Check out the offerings included with the registration material. One of the gifts of attending Fall Camp is the freedom to do what one needs to do. No one is forced to do anything. There is plenty of free time to enjoy Shrine Mont and all it has to offer or just to sit and rock on the porch. We always have an outreach project at Fall Camp. This year we are collecting the unsolicited calendars and cards that you receive in the mail. These will be distributed to several nursing homes in the Charlottesville area to residents who cannot afford them Please encourage your friends to come to Fall Camp. It’s too great an event to keep a secret! The Tri-Diocesan Planning Committee
