Preparation The world, even our own blessed country, switches out the Child in Bethlehem for Santa Claus and the Risen Christ for the Easter bunny. No surprise there. But what of those in our own churches? What of those who t hi nk they know Jesus so well that they no longer know Him at all? Jesus did nothing in Nazareth because in their unbelief no one asked Him to do anything HAPPY

Welcoming Song : How Precious is the Book Divine

#284cw

Leader: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit! Amen! Adults & Children: We worship as we live, in Jesus’ name. Amen! Leader: Let us confess our sins and turn to the LORD our God. Adults & Children: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful. I have sinned against You with my thoughts, my words and my activities. I deserve only punishment, now and forever. Please, look away from my sins; look at Jesus Christ who suffered and died for me. Leader: Rejoice! In the name of the living God, hear and believe this Good News: Jesus Christ, by His death and resurrection in Your place, has removed Your sins. You are forgiven. Go in peace and sin no more . We Christians live in confident joy with God’s gift of faith. But this sinful world does not, and cannot, believe in the living God. Instead the world worships a manmade idea that absolutely nothing created absolutely everything and all by accident. Dear Christian, what do you believe about God? Adults & Children: I b e l i e v e i n G o d , t h e F a t h e r , A l m i g h t y , M a k e r of heaven and earth. Leader: Our sinful world follows presidents, politicians, textbooks and teams, actors and movies. Dear Christian, whom do you believe and follow? Adults & Children: I b e l i e v e i n J e s u s C h r i s t , H i s o n l y S o n , o u r Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin M a r y , s u f f e r e d u n d e r Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. Leader: Many believe this life is all there is. Even many believers live their lives acting as if there is no God, no Truth. Dear Chr i sti an, i n who m d o y o u b e l i e v e? T h e P r ay e r o f t h e D ay God of all power and might, You are the Giver of all that is good. Help me love you with all my heart, strengthen me in true faith, provide me with all I need, and keep me safe in Your care. United with my fellow believers, I ask this in confident joy through Your eternal Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is my Savior. He lives and rules with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

The Lord Gives His Word Bible Reading: Ezekiel 2:1-5 People shall know that God’s prophet has been among them from the faithfulness of His prophet to His Word and to the Savior, whether people like the Message or not. For whether people like it or not, God’s Gospel remains the only message that saves. It saves even in the face of persecution from those who should know better. “The Lord said to me, “Son of man, stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you.” The Spirit entered into me as He spoke to me and brought me up to my feet. Then I heard Him speaking to me. He said to me, “Son of man, I am sending you to the people of Israel, to disloyal nations, who have been disloyal to Me. They and their fathers have HAPPY

rebelled against Me to this very day. These children of Mine are brazen -faced and hard-hearted. I am sending you to them, and you are to tell them that this is what the Lo rd God says. Then, whether they listen or do not listen—for they are a rebellious house—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.

Bible Reading:

Psalm 143cw

O L ORD , hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy;* in Your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring Your servant into judgment,* for no one living is righteous before You. My spirit grows faint within me;*

my heart within me is dismayed.

Refrain Answer me quickly, O L ORD ;*

do not hide Your face from me.

Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love,* for I have put my trust in You.

Bible Reading: Mark 6:1 -6 Would Jesus be surprised at us who have had His Word for so long and still think so little of it? Or what about those who follow Jesus faithfully and have a different stumbling block in their path: the fickleness of souls who should know better and all their noisy hostility to the pure teaching and living of His Word. Only God’s Word and reliance on Him gets us past such stumbling blocks; Jesus prepared us for such rejection, and his Word even in this sad area has proven true.

Jesus left there and went to His hometown. His disciples followed Him. 2 When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue. Many who heard Him were amazed. They asked, “Where did this man learn these things? What is this wisdom that has been given to this man? How is it that miracles such as these are performed by His hands? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter, the Son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t His sisters here with us?” And they took offense at Him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own house. ” 5 He could not do any miracles there except to lay His hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their unbelief. Then He went around the villages teaching. HAPPY

Bible Reading:

2 Corinthians 12:7 -10

Some things, like thorns, hinder the proclaiming of God ’s Gospel. Those thorns that God wants to remove God will remove. So we pray and apply His Word. But some thorns will still remain. Why? God desires that His pastor and His people ponder His truth: the success of the gospel of Jesus Christ is always due to God’s gospel alone, nothing more, nothing less. 7

Therefore, to keep me from becoming arrogant due to the extraordinary nature of these revelations, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me, so that I would not become arrogant. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that He would take it away from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, because My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will be glad to boast all the more in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may shelter me. 10 That is why I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For whenever I am weak, then am I strong. Victory Song of the Day

1 Father in heaven, holy be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done the same On earth as it is done in heaven above. Our Father, bless Your children with Your love; 2 Our daily bread provide for us each day. As we forgive, so take our sins away. In time of trial, saving Lord, be near, From every evil our Deliverer. 3 Yours is the kingdom; over all things reign. You are almighty; all things You maintain. There are many ways to become a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church & School: 1) a transfer from another WELS or ELS congregation; 2) a peaceful release from another Christian congregation; or 3) instruction classes covering six main teachings of God’s Word. These are among the different ways that allow us to build up and encourage each other in the words and promises of Jesus Christ our Savior.
