Youth Group Changes Pastor Troy Onsager

Our youth group is expanding and growing in amazing ways. Over the past year our critical mass has centered around the Junior High Youth Group. Many in this group are now moving up to High School and the potential size of both groups, as well as the reality that maturation is a factor we want to pay attention to, we will need to move to a Junior High Youth Group and a Senior High Youth Group this summer. We want to make sure our Youth Director, Mike Fahey, is not over-extended in a way that detracts from his commitment to his family. We also want to make sure that you, as parents, have a consistent schedule that works well for your child to be an active participant in our youth group.

would meet from 5:30 to 7:00 and then the Senior High Youth from 7:00 to 8:45. We would also offer one fun additional event per age group per month.

Our church is committed to providing a place for children in our church and our community a place to learn about God, grow in their faith, connect with good friends, and grow and mature in a walk of integrity even as they make mistakes along the way. We will need volunteer help as we step into this expansion - so more information will follow in that regard. Yet, to simply plant the seed - if you are able to volunteer at youth group once a month or once every other month, that would be a tremendous help. Please pray for our youth, our Youth leaders Mike and Therefore, beginning June 18 we will have a staggered Jen, and our volunteers. Thank you. June 16-20, 2014 - By Ellen Nelson

Music's influence is unending.  Sacred music, in an even more profound way, has the potential of being used by the Holy Spirt to whisper within us in every season of life. Glorifying God thru inspired arrangements, is a privilege to those who sing and play.  There is also a great sense of accomplishment for the musician when people are encouraged and inspired in worship.   The choir, soloist, organist, pianist, percussionist, cellist, guitarist, and all musicians can rejoice within, knowing they are playing a vital role within God's family.

Troy Onsager, opened with prayer at 7:05 PM Sunday Services will continue at 10:30 a.m. and not change for summer. Information from Session Teams: Mission Team was excited that during their time EPC volunteers and others packed over 37,000 meals at the Feed My Starving Children event! What a blessing to help feed so many.   Church Life will be providing chinese food for the Senior Sock Hop on May 31st.  A golf tournament is on June 22, proceeds will be donated toward the cost of Pastor Troy’s educational trip to Scotland. The annual church picnic will be held August 10 at the Escalon Community Center Park. Youth discussed VBS which is June 16-20. They are planning for 150 children. Volunteers are needed to help with crafts, kitchen work, and registration. If you can donate food and/or other items needed for VBS check out the signup sheets in the Faith Center. For questions contact the church office. Adult Ministries announced that Women’s Night Out will continue on a monthly basis, the second Friday of each month starting in June. The May 15, 2014 meeting of EPC Deacons was one of spring reflection and summer planning. We are so very grateful for the support we receive from you, our church family, in the activities we sponsor. Three successful dinners were prepared and served this year for the Modesto Salvation Army Shelter. The physical improvements made at their site have been remarkable. Six years ago we served meals in a warehouse surrounded by bicycles and shopping carts. This year’s meals have been served in a newly completed dining room. Our first two meals served 160. Our last meal on April 26 served the forty, full-time Transition Program residents. The transition clientele are served three meals a day and a guaranteed bed each night. They are counseled and supported to transition into living full lives. We thank Dave Hall who brought praise-music volunteers. We also appreciate the gentle guidance and listening heart of Dan Adams as he shares the word. Many of you brought your children or grandchildren to the delight of all. Thank you for the opportunity to reflect the Escalon Presbyterian Church in this loving, generous light. We hope you are searching through your gently-used shoes for a donation to the Casa de Modesto shoe drive. Your shoes will provide both jobs and shoes to wear in third-world countries. Please place them in the Fellowship Hall C.A.R.E. can with a rubber band connecting the pair. This drive will end June 30. Though summer activities abound for your participation, please know your Deacon wants to hear from you if you have concerns. We will not meet on a regular basis in June and July, but feel free to contact us or the church office if needed. Happy, healthy summer to all!

Trustees will no longer have an off-site storage rental unit. They also repaired the deep hole in the gutter on First Street. (just outside the gate) THANK YOU! Pastor Troy mentioned that Calvin Crest Camp sign ups are going very well and there will be a 60-year celebration at Calvin Crest on Aug 9 & 10. Meeting adjourned with prayer at 7:55 p.m.   June 2014 Newsletter

Shoe Drive Fundraiser Women’s Night Out! June 22

June 13

Casa de Modesto is having a Shoe Drive Fundraiser through the month of June. They would like to collect pairs of shoes that are new or gently used. They will be shipping the shoes to impoverished people in developing nations. The shoes create jobs in cleaning and repairing them. The goal is to have 300 bags of shoes. Please place your shoes wrapped with a rubber band in the Faith Center C.A.R.E. garbage can.

Join us June 13 (2nd Friday of every month starting in June) to ‘get away from it all’ and go out to dinner. We will have great fellowship while enjoying a cooked meal out at various restaurants. Please R.S.V.P. to Joyce Noble or Diane Goodrich.

Anita was a member of our church during Art’s 8 year tenure from 1982 to 1990.   During that time she was a manager of nurses at Memorial Hospital and sang in our choir.  All who knew her will remember her friendship and joyful spirit. When Art and Anita moved to become pastor of a church  in  Tennessee, Anita continued her nursing career at the hospital in Chattanooga.  She was honored as the employee of the year in 1995.  She was selected as woman of the year in 1998 at the church where Art pastored for 20 years.  They were joyfully married 35 years. For those who would like to send a card to Art, his address is P. O. Box 600, Jasper TN, 37347.  His telephone number is 423-942-7141.  It is sure that he would appreciate hearing from those he knew.
