NYC Taxi Exam Preparation Courses

Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC)

Kingsborough Community College is a NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) approved test preparation and exam site.

This program of six courses and two field internships earns eligibility for the CASACtrainee certificate, issued by New York State’s Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Service (OASAS). Although you may complete the six required courses through Continuing Education, you must enroll in the College as a matriculated student to complete the two field internships. First time CASAC students must contact Dr. Joan Standora at 718-368-5289 before registering.

For the New York City Taxi Operators (Hack) License prescribed by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission. A separate $25 test fee must be paid before the exam by Money Order only.

RTP 31 Portable Electronic Device (PED) Course for Taxi & Limo Drivers $35 Prescribed by the New York City TLC, this is a mandatory course for those who were issued a summons for distracted driving in violation of the TLC Rule #5414E. This course will provide drivers with the skills necessary to use portable electronic devices while operating a taxi cab.

RTP 72 Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Training NEW! $75 All New York City (TLC) Medallion drivers are required to complete a TLC mandatory 3-hour Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Training class, as part of their TLC renewal licensing process. The class covers the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for assisting wheelchair passengers in and out of taxis, as well as the proper use of vehicle access ramps and securing wheelchairs, and passenger lap and shoulder safety belts in the taxi.

Certified instructors provide review and practice under simulated test conditions to help prepare students for the verbal reasoning, essay portion, and problem-solving skills measured by the test. Study skills, coaching and test-taking tips are provided, as well as individual and group conferences with a certified college counselor. A workshop for parents and guardians is included in the last session. The text book is available for purchase in the college’s bookstore and should be brought to all class sessions.

Seasonal Urban Farming

A collaborative initiative of the Office of Continuing Education, the Center for Economic and Workforce Development, and the Culinary Arts Program of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality. Kingsborough’s Kitchen Ventures (KV) initiative helps retail and wholesale food entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground. The program offers supplemental education to help teach entrepreneurs how to strengthen their business plans, navigate the intricacies of distribution, early-stage catering, and compliance with regulatory procedures. KV utilizes four commercial kitchen spaces at Kingsborough to help deliver instruction and hands-on production, enabling participants to spin off and create their own, stable businesses in the community with greater success.

This course will prepare you to take the New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) examination As an NYS EMT, you can work or volunteer anywhere in New York State. You will learn basic life saving techniques such as, but not limited to: scene safety, patient assessment, management of fractures, bleeding control, movement of patients, and oxygen administration. An EMT is one of the first healthcare providers on the scene during emergencies. Becoming an EMT is also a requirement if you are interested in ever becoming a paramedic.
