Nigel Dawes needs no introduction to the Kootenay ICE faithful, being a big part of the organization from the onset. At just 16 years old, Nigel played an instrumental part in the team capturing the 2002 Memorial Cup. A member of the 50-goal club with the Kootenay ICE in 2004-2005 and a three-time member of the 40-goal club, Nigel was a pure goal scorer. Nigel played a better part of six seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens. Nigel has continued his career by playing for the KHL’s Astana Barys from 2011-2018. In speaking with Nigel, he plans to return to the KHL next season, albeit with a new team for the first time. Nigel said he is not sure where his next season in the KHL is headed but he should know soon and is looking forward to the challenge/ adventure of a new city and a new team. Nigel spends his off-season with his wife Cassandra and two-year-old son Benson in Winnipeg, where they just finished building a new house. Nigel also enjoys his off-season on the golf course and with family and friends.
