Resident of the month: Jean Noethlich Elva Jean Coleman was born on June 12, 1928 in Lancaster, Ohio. She was the youngest of three children born to Elsie and Thomas Coleman. Jean lost her mother when she was just eight years old. Her father Tom, Aunt Odessa, as well as sister DeeDee, worked hard to give her a good life. Jean grew into a fun and loving young woman. She graduated Lancaster High School in 1946. She participated in many clubs and activities, and was President of Mu Phi Mu, a YWCA business sorority. She met her husband Robert Noethlich in Circleville, Ohio shortly after graduation. They married in 1948 and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Bob would always say “We met in Circleville and we’ve been going round and round ever since.”

Lena says: Happy New Year to all my friends!

Administrative Staff:

Jean excelled in everything artistic. She taught copper enameling at the YMCA. She made beautiful enameled jewelry in a special kiln built by her brother. She painted landscapes and still life in acrylics and oils. Her painting skills and color sense were a perfect combination in ceramics. She would love to go to garage sales and pick up items that would turn in to her next art or craft project. She refinished and hand painted furniture.

Our mission is to create and sustain comfortable, caring environments for those who depend on us.

Once her boys went off to high school, Jean went to work at Sears. She liked the interaction with customers. When the family moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1971, Jean transferred to Sears Commercial Sales. She loved her job helping schools and businesses fulfill their needs and do so efficiently and within budget. She was highly respected for her customer service skills. Bob and Jean moved to Issaquah, Washington in 1987. There she met Joanne Dinken, a fellow artist. For over 20 years, they made dried floral arrangements and wreaths, painted sweatshirts, painted greeting cards, and designed jewelry. They would sell their crafts at local shows. Jean also began lessons, and soon perfected watercolor painting. Throughout her life, Jean made all holidays special with her decoration talents. She was very proud of her home and her family. Today, Jean loves new pictures and news of her grandson Jeff and wife Sarah, and great granddaughter Isabelle.

INSIDE THIS Jean movedISSUE to La Conner Retirement Inn in late May 2017. She loves her many new friends at the Inn.

Memories in the Making!

Unique New Year’s Resolutions We’ve all heard the popular

benefits!

resolutions: “Lose weight,” “Get fit,” “Save money,” “Get organized,” “Take a vacation,” and “Live life to the fullest.” For 2018, we’re sharing some resolution ideas that are perhaps a bit less common, but just as rewarding.

Make a new friend This may sound easier said than done, but if you try being social and forming bonds, you will feel better inside and out.

Donate So many people need the things we no longer use or want. Consider donating to Goodwill or a local thrift shop.

Pay it forward The next time you’re in a drive-through, going through a toll, or even at the library (where many people have pesky late fees) consider treating the person behind you.

Become an active listener

Volunteer

It can be quite the Is there a cause dear to your challenge getting heart or a group whose those ducks in a row! activities you admire? Why not join in and commit to helping them with their cause? Time requirements for volunteer opportunities vary. Check out volunteermatch.org for a starting point.

For this one, you do yourself a favor and the person with whom you’re conversing. Maintain eye contact, really hear what the other person is saying, and think before responding. Your conversations will become much more meaningful.

Our Christmas party was a huge success. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives

Take a Daily Walk Technically this can help with getting fit and losing weight, but for this resolution, consider doing it for overall health and wellbeing. A walk can be as simple as you want and may just brighten your day.

Go ahead and say “No.” People of all ages and of all walks of life can struggle with saying “No.” The next time you really want to say it, remember that you and your wishes are important.

Share Your Knowledge or a Skill People often have the resolution to learn a new skill, but how about teaching one? Everyone has their areas of expertise and what could be nicer than sharing them for free with those who would like to learn?!

Breathe Take a few moments every day to close your eyes, sit up straight, relax your body, and breathe in through your nose and out deeply through your mouth. You’ll feel the 2
