Our Tours & Services Explained Escorted Tours: We have two multi-country Escorted Tours with fixed departure dates: The 24 Day Small Group Tour of South America and The 22 Day South America Cruise and Tour. Both tours will give an introduction to the highlights of this amazing continent with the possibility to extend to other areas for a more in-depth experience. These tours require a minimum of 8 adult paying passengers to have the same escort from day 1 to the last day. Should there not be a minimum of persons participating, the tour still goes ahead with local bilingual guides in every place. These tours are offered in tourist and tourist superior class hotels to suit your budget. Independent Tours: With weekly departures, our independent tours are fully guided by local expert English speaking guides and assisted from the time you arrive in South America, throughout your stay, to the time you leave. These tours are customizable to suit your needs and preferences. These tours are offered in tourist, tourist superior and first class hotels to suit your budget. Specific Country Tours For a second visit to South America or for a more in-depth experience and immersion to the local culture

What is responsible travel? In recent years ‘Responsible Travel’ has become a very familiar term, but what is it? To put it simply, it is our responsibility to ensure we offer holidays that are sensitive to the environments and communities you visit, and it is your responsibility as a traveller to ensure you tread carefully, respecting local laws and customs and avoiding any negative impact on the local environment. Our responsibility To us, Responsible Tourism is nothing new. Ever since we started in 1999, we have believed that it’s our responsibility to do all we can to protect the places to which we send clients and to ensure that as much as possible of the money spent filters through to local economies. We, and everyone we ask to deliver services to you, take pride in offering responsible holidays with minimal impact on the environment, support for community development and ensuring good working conditions. We relay our RT policy to all of our suppliers and they in turn sign an agreement of best practice. How you can get involved Clients often ask us what they can do to ensure they travel responsibly. The following is best practice: Before you go.. Learn something about the countries you plan to visit to find out about the culture, politics, geography, religion and local customs. Try and remove unnecessary packaging from any products you are taking with you, and dispose of it at home first. Recycling has yet to really take off in Latin America so the less you leave the better! Whilst on your travels .. In the market… Buy local handicrafts and support local artisans. When bargaining, remember that a small saving for you could make a big difference for the seller. Don’t buy ancient artifacts or anything made with endangered animals or plants e.g. hardwoods, shells, exotic feathers, coral, furs or eggs. Eating out... Choose smaller local restaurants, bars and cafes where possible so your money benefits local people. Sample the local cuisine using local produce. Out and about... Remember to respect local traditions and culture. Ask permission before photographing indigenous people and events, particularly religious processions. Ask for an address and send photos to the people you photographed, many won’t have photos of their families. Simple gifts for children, such as crayons, balloons, colouring books or even a mini football can bring a huge smile to a child’s face. Resist handing out sweets as dental care is, mostly, poor. Giving money to children on the street only encourages begging; instead consider donating to schools or local conservation or charitable organisations. Speaking with people… Why not try and learn some of the lingo? Speaking a few words of the local language, even if it is just ‘hola’ or ‘gracias’, will change the way people react to you. You’ll get a much warmer welcome and this in turn can enrich your experience and interaction with the local people. Traditions and ways of life differ greatly across the cultures of Latin America. As a rule of thumb, people in lowland regions are more gregarious and relaxed than those who live a more austere life in the mountains, and many Latin Americans are modest and camera-shy. Please try to be sensitive to local customs. The pace of life outside the main cities is slower than in Australia, and you may have to draw on your reserves of patience in some situations. There is still widespread poverty in many countries: you may like to consider taking clothes, shoes or toys with you that you might be happy to leave behind.

Minimise your environmental impact… Stick to the paths and walkways whether you are in the jungle, on a mountain trek or in a Mayan ruin. They are there for your safety and also to preserve the local wildlife and help to avoid further erosion of the landscape. In your hotel… Clean water is a precious resource, so use it sparingly. Try and take quick showers rather than baths as this helps to save water. Advise your hotel that you don’t need towels or sheets laundered daily. This can save on water and energy. Conserve electricity by switching off lights, air-conditioning or heating when you leave your room. Use environmentally friendly shampoos and detergents, particularly when you are outside big cities in ‘the wild’ and your shower water is going to end up in a river! Try to reuse and refill your drinking water bottles where possible. Many hotels have water ‘garafons’ filled with treated ‘agua potable’ that is perfectly safe to drink. If your hotel does not, you could leave a suggestion that they provide one.

Day 1: Arrive in Playa del Carmen Welcome to Mexico! You will arrive at Cancun International Airport. Meet and assist at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at Hotel Playa del Carmen (or similar). Day 2: Playa del Carmen Today you can enjoy the white sand beach of Playa del Carmen, take an optional day tour or enjoy some shopping. There is lots to see and do in this charming seaside city. Overnight at Hotel Playa del Carmen or similar. Day 3: Playa del Carmen - Caye Caulker, Belize Today we must leave by land pleasant Playa del Carmen to Chetumal and continue by boat to the quiet Caye Caulker, This place is known for having a warm and welcoming atmosphere. On early British maps the island’s name is spelled “”Cay Corker”” because sailors used to stop here to fill their water bottles with fresh water. Back then these water bottles were sealed with corks! Look forward to a pleasant evening at the Hotel 2 Caye Caulker Plaza or a similar accommodation. 1 Estimated Travel Time: 5.5hr /452 km Day1 4: Caye Caulker Make the most of the island’s natural splendor by exploring the coral reef. There are plenty of fullday and half-day diving and snorkeling optional2 tours to choose from or you can choose to spend a simple day at the beach. Here you can explore elaborate architecture in a country with beautiful and dense, mysteriously beautiful rainforests. Overnight at Trek Stop Hotel or a similar . Estimated Travel time:1.5hr /110 km Day 7: San Ignacio There are plenty of optional excursions in this area. This town is very near some unique Mayan ruins as well as a great location from which to embark on adventure activities. Try out kayaking, caving, hiking, horseback riding and more! You will once again overnight at the Hotel Trek Stop or similar. Day 8: San Ignacio – Tikal- Flores In the early morning we will cross the border and go directly to Tikal National Park to see some Mayan ruins and then we will make our way to Flores, a beautiful town by Petén Lake. Spend the afternoon at your leisure. There are many remarkable natural and archaeological wonders in the region. Overnight at Hotel Casona de la Isla. Estimated Travel time: 1.5hr /110 km”


Day 9: Flores – Rio Dulce Travel from Flores to Rio Dulce town and enjoy the view of the river. Rio Dulce, which means ‘Sweet River’, is a lovely town intersected by waterways. A boat tour is one of the best ways to see this beautiful location. Tonight travelers will stay at the hospitable Hotel Hacienda Tijax (or similar). Estimated Travel time: 7hr / 210 km (Public Bus) Day 10: Rio Dulce You have the whole day to explore whichever sites you find most interesting. Some of the most popular include the Citadel of the Castillo San Felipe, the Mayan Ruins of Quirigua, the Finca Paraiso Hot-springs and Waterfall, and the Rio Dulce National Park. Really take this opportunity to explore the wild side of Mexico. Stay at the charming Hotel Hacienda Tijax or similar for a second evening. Day 11: Rio Dulce - Antigua Today you will have the time to explore this lovely town. Tour the museum, churches, and colonial buildings. Antigua is a great place to buy colorful fabrics, jade jewelry, and silver trinkets. Look forward to a relaxing overnight stay at the peaceful Posada La Merced or similar. Estimated Travel Time: 6hr /290 km (Public Bus Rio Dulce Guatemala City / Private Guatemala - Antigua) Day 12: Antigua – Panajachel Travel by land to Panajachel, located in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Panajachel (or Pana, as it is widely known) is a small town on the North shore of Lake Atitlán. Overnight at Hotel Kamol Bey or Similar Estimated travel time: 5 hrs /405 km” Day 13: Panajachel – San Juan La Laguna Boat across Lake Atitlan to San Juan La Laguna. one. Tonight, we will have the opportunity to learn more about Mayan traditions by visiting a Mayan house and learning more about Tz’utujil food and culture. Overnight at Posadas Mayas Rupalajistalin. (D) Day 14: San Juan La Laguna – Antigua Today you will explore the city of Antigua. This former capital has several large monuments that tell the history of the place and is a great place to shop. Spend your afternoon discovering this UNESCO World Heritage site on your own. Tonight you will stay at the beautiful Hotel San Jorge or similar. Estimated Travel Time: 1hr /78 km. (B) Day 15: Antigua Today you will have the time to explore on your own all that this town has to offer and pick up any last minute souvenirs to take back with you. Day 1: Arrival in Antigua – Guatemala Welcome to Guatemala! You will start your trip in the city of Antigua. Meet and assist at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Day 5: Roatán If you are up for an adventure we recommend a visit to 2the east end of the island to the largest of all the Bay Island beaches for some opportunity to snorkel, diving and kayaking. Return to the Hotel La Quinta Inn for a second evening.

Day 6: Roatán Roatán is a world-famous destination for SCUBA diving and snorkelling. The coral reef here is home to sea turtles, dolphins, rays, hundreds of species of colorful fish, corals and sea-sponges. You can also explore the clear waters on a boat, kayak or paddleboard. Spend another great night at Hotel La Quinta Inn. Day 7: Roatán - Tegucigalpa - León Morning domestic flight to the city of Tegucigalpa, where a comfortable bus will be waiting to take us to the quaint city of Leon in Nicaragua for a panoramic city tour on arrival. Day 1: Arrival in Havana After your arrival in Havana, you will be met and assisted at the airport and transferred to the Hotel Habana Libre or similar, where you will spend the first night. Day 2: Havana Explore the historic center of Havana - Habana Vieja - on a guided tour, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. The city’s historic flair is omnipresent in the old town’s maze of tiny streets. Visit the modern part of Havana in the afternoon.Accommodation at Hotel Habana Libre or similar.(B) Day 3: Havana – Pinar del Río – Viñales After breakfast you will head westward. You will stop and visit a “Casa del Veguero” (house of a tobacco farmer) surrounded by lush tobacco fields in the famous Vinales Valley. You will also visit the “Cueva del Indio”. Today’s overnight accommodation is located in Vinales, a small town situated between green tobacco fields and monumental limestone formations called ‘Mogotes’. Copper Canyon 5D/4N When people talk about the Copper Canyon, they are referring to a section of the Sierra Madre of northwestern Mexico known as the Sierra Tarahumara (after the indigenous people who live there). The area was formed through violent volcanic uplifting followed by the gradual process of erosion that carved a vast network of canyons into the soft volcanic stone. In geological time, it’s much newer than the Grand Canyon. Crossing the Sierra Tarahumara is the famed Chihuahua al Pacífico railway. WHEN TO GO There isn’t a bad time to visit Cuba. The hot, rainy season runs from May to October with occassional hurricanes from August to October but winter (December to April) is the island’s peak tourist season, when planeloads of Canadians and Europeans arrive in pursuit of the southern sun.
