Lawyer, Customised Training Not-for-profit Law This is an opportunity to join one of Australia’s most successful public interest and pro bono law organisations. Justice Connect is a not-for-profit organisation with a vision of a world that is fair and just; where rights are respected and advanced, laws are fairer, and systems are more accessible and accountable. Justice Connect provides access to justice to people experiencing disadvantage and the community organisations that support them. We work with thousands of pro bono lawyers and barristers to do this. We also address injustice through law reform, policy work and legal education. Not-for-profit Law is Justice Connect’s specialist service for not-for-profit community groups. It provides free and low cost legal assistance to not-for-profit community organisations in Victoria, New South Wales, and increasingly across Australia. By ‘helping the helpers’, Not-for-profit Law supports organisations to focus their time and energy on achieving their mission - whether that's supporting vulnerable people, delivering community services, celebrating diversity or looking after the environment. Are you a person with experience in delivering legal education to the community sector? Are you passionate about not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises? If so, we are looking for a lawyer for an initial 1 year contract position, with the potential for extension. This position is based in our Melbourne office, with travel to regional areas as needed. Under the supervision of our Customised Training Manager, this position is responsible for scoping and delivering training on legal issues for not-for-profit organisations, on a fee-for-service basis via a social enterprise model. The role has responsibility for developing and delivering customised training and educational services for not-for-profit peak bodies, local councils and individual community organisations across Victoria (and potentially in future across Australia). Our customised training service has been running as a social enterprise for several years in Victoria, and for the last 12 months in NSW. Over this time we have seen steady growth in the service, and we are now seeking a dedicated, conscientious and adventurous lawyer to help us develop and scale our enterprise. There is a strong foundation to build on with existing training modules, member law firm and sector contacts. There is also scope for new ideas and the opportunity to build our profile and reputation as a ‘provider of choice’ of professional, practical and tailored legal training and education for Australian not-for-profit organisations. The fees received from the customised and in-house training program support the broader Not-for-profit Law service (see www.justiceconnect.org.au/nfplaw). Subject to capacity, the Lawyer will also have the opportunity to contribute to the broader service, including assisting with legal advice, education and policy and law reform work. If you are a lawyer with two years practical experience, have experience and/or qualifications in adult/group training, and are passionate about improving access to legal help for not-for-profit organisations, this is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, committed and highly-respected team.
