We are looking for our next Director Over the past eight years, Spaceworks Tacoma has developed into a pillar of the Tacoma arts and maker communities, while invigorating the entrepreneurial ecosystem. We are seeking the next Spaceworks Program Director to grow the program and the entrpreneurial community.

Candidate Qualities & Experience Our ideal candidate must be passionate about the role art and entrepreneurship play in making Tacoma an incredible city to live, work and create. The Spaceworks Program Director must have strong connections in the local and regional arts, culture, maker, and entrepreneur communities. Excellent communication skills are needed for this fast-paced, innovative, highly sought-after program. Spaceworks has a team of five awesome people working to cultivate creative communities within the Chamber’s 25 person organization. Candidates must show proven internal and external leadership skills demonstrated by an ability to lead both with and without a mandate. Spaceworks supports its mission with $400,000 in funding from a diverse array of sources including grants, contracts, leases, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and service fees. The Program Director will have demonstrated experience in non-profit fundraising and fiscal management. This multifaceted, opportunity driven program requires incredible creativity and organization skills. Spaceworks History Spaceworks Tacoma was launched in 2010 as a joint initiative of the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber to approach community transformation and small business development in a new way. As an answer to Tacoma’s vacant downtown storefronts, the City and Chamber envisioned creative business, events and art installations creating visitor destinations and driving new consumers into underutilized areas. What began as an effort to provide infill and interest to Tacoma’s streetscapes has evolved into a decentralized business incubator and anchor for the creative class in downtown and beyond. Since launching, Spaceworks has worked with more than 400 artists and creative entrepreneurs in more than 50 sites around Tacoma. Spaceworks has: • Provided training and technical assistance to 125 creative businesses • Helped launch 66 businesses into community storefronts and vacant commercial spaces • Presented 175 public art installations • Coordinated 55 Special Projects such as pop-up shops, exhibitions, residencies and more • Supported 56 alumni creative enterprises that continue on as lease paying tenants • Exhibited 12 gallery shows involving 132 artists/curators, and over 45 performers/ speakers at the Spaceworks 950 Gallery, with 3,549 visitors since opening in June 2016. • Supported 500+ events/performances throughout Tacoma • Activated over 50,000 square feet of vacant commercial space • Inspired more than 207 media features, including segments on King5 News, South Sound Talk, and Evening Magazine • Helped attract national attention leading to Tacoma being designated an Etsy Maker City

Position Details and Application This is an exempt position. Dependent on experience, the compensation range is from $57,000-$69,000/annually. This position also includes an array of benefits including 401(k), short- & long-term disability insurance, AD&D insurance, dental insurance, 10 paid holidays, 16 days of paid time off, ORCA transit pass, and eligibility for the Live Downtown Program. · Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or related experience. · High-school diploma or GED required. · Proficient with MS Office Suite and CRMs. · Driver’s License, auto insurance, and personal vehicle required. Position will be open until filled.
