Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet at Burroughs-Saden Main Library

Library Programs Explore Earth Exhibit ~ Grand Opening Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 6:00– 7:30 (1st floor) Join us for the grand opening of Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet exhibition, which Bridgeport Public Library is hosting from March 21st to May 18th, 2018. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the attendees can begin to explore the exhibit and learn how we can take care of our planet. Also, children will paint and decorate miniature bird houses to take with them, providing homes for birds in our community!

Thru-Hiking the Appalachian Trail Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 2:00– 3:00 (1st floor) With Sam Ducharme leading the discussion, you’ll feel like you’re on the Appalachian Trail. His enthusiasm for sharing his adventures will keep you glued to your seat and inspired to go on an adventure of your own. During his presentation, you’ll get the “dirt” on long distance backpacking as well as take in the breathtaking scenery Sam saw along the way. He’ll also share funny stories, poignant stories, and lots of “down the mud” stories!

Significance of the Ash Creek Estuaries Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2:00– 3:00 (1st floor) The marshes of the greater-Bridgeport area are an important ecological feature. Join us for a fascinating and educational program designed to educated the public on the significance of tidal estuaries such as Ash Creek, and their crucial role as delicate environments for the maintenance of bird, fish, and plant life. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Kraig Steffen, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Fairfield University.

Earth: The View from Space Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2:00– 3:30 (1st floor) Join us for a fascinating and educational program discussing a view of Earth’s interconnected and ever-changing ecosystems, presented by Dave Mestre, Director of the Henry B. DuPont III Planetarium at the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport. Mr. Mestre’s focus will be on the scientific advances, in such areas as weather prediction, climate change and geology that have occurred due to our ability to study the Earth from a more distant vantage point.
